as作连词,意为“当……时候”,引导时间状语从句。如:1.Asthecandleburns,itusesupoxygenintheair.当蜡烛燃烧时,它要耗尽空气中的氧气。Ashegrewup,hebecamesilent.他长大以后,变得沉默寡言。
useup意为“用完;用光”。useup是动词加副词型短语,宾语是代词时必须放在use和up的中间;宾语是名词时,放在use和up的中间或up的后面均可。如:Don'tuseupallthehotwater.不要用光所有的热水。
(1)分数的表达方式:分子为基数词,分母为序数词。并且当分子大于1时,分母要用复数。如:2.Becauseaboutonefifthoftheairismadeupofoxygen,thewaterrisesandfillsaboutonefifthofthejar.空气中含有五分之一的氧气,所以水位上升并且占了罐子的五分之一。five-eighths八分之五
(2)带有分数的名词作主语时,谓语动词的单复数,要根据分数所修饰的名词来确定。如果分数所修饰的是可数名词复数,谓语动词用复数形式;如果分数所修饰的是不可数名词,谓语动词用单数形式。如:Aboutthree-fifthsofthestudentsinClassOneareboys.一班五分之三的学生是男生。
