Ⅲ. 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Ask any person who is successful in whatever he or she is doing what motivates him/her, and very likely the answer will be "goals". Goal Setting is extremely important to motivation and success. So what motivates you? Why are you in college? If you are in college because that's what your parents want, you may find it difficult to motivate yourself. Sure, it's possible to succeed with someone else providing the motivation for you. ("If you graduate from college, I'll give you a car!" or worse "If you don't graduate from college, you won't get a car.") But motivation that comes from within really makes the difference.
Certainly, you need some intelligence, knowledge base, study skills, and time management skills, but if you don't have motivation, you won't get far. Think about this analogy. You have a car with a full tank of gas, a well-tuned engine, good set of tires, quadraphonic CD system, and a sleek, polished exterior(外表). There it sits. This car has incredible potential. However, until a driver sits behind the wheel, puts the key in the ignition(点火装置), and cranks it up, the car doesn't function. You guessed it; the KEY is MOTIVATION.
Interest is an important motivator for a student. So is a desire to learn. When you link these two things together, you create success. Often success in an endeavor(努力) leads to more interest and a greater desire to learn, creating an upward spiral(螺旋形) of motivation toward a goal you have established.
So be honest with yourself. Are you genuinely interested in being in college? Have you set realistic goals for yourself? How can you develop the internal motivation that really counts? When it comes to motivation, KNOWING is not as important as DOING.
41. Why does the writer give the example of a car in the second paragraph?
A. Because people can never go far without a good car.
B. Because a good car motivates some college students to study harder.
C. Because a good car is a symbol of being a success.
D. Because motivation leads people to success like it starts a car.
42. What is the CORRECT comparison between the internal motivation and the external (外部的)motivation?
A. Only the internal motivation can result in success.
B. Internal motivation is more important than external motivation.
C. Internal motivation and external motivation has equal importance.
D. External motivation is enough for people to achieve success.
43. According to the article the following factors can push people towards their goals EXCEPT __________?
A. interest B. the desire to learn
C. the knowledge of motivation D. the sense of success
44. What’s the main purpose of the article?
A. To encourage everyone to develop motivation for whatever they are doing..
B. To inspire college students to set goals for their college life.
C. To imply that the less motivated college students quit the college.
D. To call on parents to give up their over-protection of their children.
45. What may be the writer’s advice to the potential readers?
A. The goals you set for yourself shouldn’t be far beyond your reach.
B. You needn’t attend college if you are really not interested in it.
C. You should work harder to win praise from others.
D. Honesty is the best policy to solve problems in your life.

On Thursday September 6, 2007, the world lost an amazing musician and person. The great tenor Luciano Pavarotti lost the battle with cancer and died at 5 am in Italy. This great loss cannot go unnoticed and shouldn’t. Pavarotti was an incredible individual and he tried and succeeded in making a difference in the world. Instead of looking at his death with sorrow, we should look at his death as an inspiration.
Reviewing all of the contributions this man made with his life, we should try to contribute something great to the world we live in. Each person has a talent, and some, like Pavarotti, use their talents to create a better place for everyone. Many times, some young people feel as though they are lost, asking the same questions and getting no answers: What is my purpose in life? What am I meant to do? Of course we should take time to respectfully think about Pavarotti, but we shouldn’t dwell on sorrow because his death is something we can't change .What we all can do to honour this great man is to commit to making a difference and contributing something to the world.
Even though not everyone is a musician, each person can learn something from Pavarotti’s life. The first lesson is that you do not have to become what you originally planned to be. Pavarotti was one of the greatest tenors of all time, but he did not start that way. Many people feel they are stuck on the path they’ve chosen. This is not the case! Pavarotti taught elementary school for two years and was an insurance salesman while pursuing his interest. For six years, Pavarotti sang for nothing more than just a hobby until he won an international prize. Just four years later in New York, he made 379 performances and retired from stage opera in 2004, but continued to tour until his cancer diagnosis in 2006.
46. What does the author mean by saying “we should look at his death as an inspiration.”?
A. We should be inspired by his death.
B. We should be inspired to win the battle with cancer
C. We should be inspired to devote ourselves to becoming a musician.
D. We should be inspired to make contributions to the world
47. The underlined phrase “dwell on” probably means “________”.
A. talk little about B. think a lot about
C. fix one’s attention on D. look carefully at
48. In the second paragraph, the author mainly intends to tell readers about ________.
A. reviewing all of Pavarotti’s contributions B. the purpose in one’s life
C. many young people’s doubts D. how to use talents
49. What will the writer probably talk about in the 4th paragraph?
A. To describe the excellence of his performances
B. To inform readers of his cancer diagnosis
C. To tell readers other lessons we can learn from Pavarotti.
D. To introduce his successful life as a tenor.
50. In which section of a newspaper does the passage appear?
A. Entertainment B. Cover News C. Medicine D. Literature

For many years, artists have flocked to Paris, France, to paint or to learn to paint. Perhaps artists first went there because of the city's beauty. They went to paint pictures of the broad, tree-lined streets, the great churches, and the graceful river bridges.
The artists felt comfortable in Paris because the people of the city had always enjoyed art. Paris had great art museums, filled with famous paintings and statues from many countries. And the people of Paris had always welcomed new ideas. In this city, artists felt free to experiment with new ways of painting.
As soon as famous artists painted in Paris, students came to learn from them. People came to buy paintings. People called art dealers set up galleries where paintings were bought and sold. Others kept shops that sold artists' paints and supplies.
Students and artists who were not yet famous could live in Paris for very little money. They learned by studying great art in the museums, and they learned from one another. They held art fairs, hanging their paintings outdoors along the streets.
Today, New York City and Florence, Italy, are also famous art centers. But the world's principal art exhibits are still held in Paris. Important judges of art live there. Most of the new ways of painting that have started in the last hundred years began in Paris. So artists and art dealers still go to Paris because it is the world's leading art center.
51. Art students learned by studying great art in Paris' ______.
A. streets B. churches C. museums D. schools
52. The story does not say so, but it makes you think that ______.
A. Paris is famous for its artists' paints and supplies

C. art fairs are held in galleries
D. Florence is the center of world art exhibits
53. Important judges of art ______.
A. live in Paris B. feel free to experiment
C. work in New York D. have no new ways of painting
55. Students can learn from ______.
A. their parents B. one another C. the streets D. the trees
55. On the whole, this story is about ______.
A. the world's most famous art center

C. the famous art centers of New York and Florence
D. where to set up galleries

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
When I was a child, my parents sent me to a special class to learn calligraphy(书法). They kept asking me to practice it because they believe mastering the art of calligraphy can help me produce beautiful handwriting. Later on in primary school and junior high school, we must hand in one whole page of calligraphic exercise per week. At that time, calligraphy was considered an important skill that children have to learn.
Today, along with the popularity of computers, writing is increasingly done by punching in on the keyboard instead of holding any kind of real pens. Teachers and parents value computer knowledge much more than the art of calligraphy. As a result, people care less and less about calligraphy, which has now become no more than a simple hobby enjoyed by only a few people. It is very sad to witness the death of such a wonderful tradition.

第二节:任务型写作
Learning Calligraphy is Our Duty
The passage is mainly about the author’s experience of learning calligraphy and his concern for the dying tradition with the popularity of computers.
I have been learning calligraphy for 10 years. And I’m glad to see some students of my age are learning calligraphy, only as a hobby, though.
In my opinion, it is our duty to learn Chinese calligraphy. Firstly, it is often regarded as the most inspiring form of art in Chinese culture. Secondly, it is more than handwriting. It’s also part of culture. Many Westerners are gaining interest in what they call ‘art of line’, which is expressed in calligraphy. Besides, learning calligraphy helps to develop the learner’s patience, discipline and creativity, providing room to express imaginations. Thus, it develops valuable skills.
In a word, we Chinese should be encouraged to learn Chinese calligraphy, especially the kids, because it’s our duty to keep it alive.
