A
I was watching Sportscenter last night when one of those “human interest” stories came on and really caught my attention.
The story was about a 27-year-old professional Bass Fisherman named Clay Dyer. At first, they played it off as another guy trying to make the cut on the Bassmaster tour until they showed a picture of him. No legs, no arm, or rather, he has only 1/3 of his right arm. That’s all that he has.
It was such an amazing story that I was wondering what this guy could do. Growing up, he learned to play baseball and basketball, but found that fishing was his true calling. And he does it all on his own. He holds the fishing pole under his chin and uses that and his stub (残端) arm to cast and reel in(收进) the fish. He uses his teeth to help him unhook fish. He ties his own hooks or lures on with his mouth, never really asking anyone else to help. Clay Dyer even knows how to swim. Since his body can’t produce enough sweat on its own, he has to take a dip in the lake every few hours to keep cool. He dives in just like anyone else, then somehow treads water(踩水) with his stub arm, then, with a little help, pulls himself back up into the boat and goes on fishing.
Clay Dyer has never looked for others’ pity, nor has he allowed his physical disabilities to prevent him from becoming a professional fisherman. His motto for life is "If I can, you can." He refuses to use special equipment, saying, "I want to do it with one hand the way they do it with two."
41. Which word can best replace the word “unhook” in Paragraph 3?
A. to remove hooks B.to unfasten C. to remove fish D. to cook
42.Why did the author become interested in Clay Dyer?
A. He assumed Dyer was living happily.
B. He took great pity on this disabled man.
C. He wanted to know what Dyer could do.
D. He thought that Dyer could do nothing.
43. While fishing, Dyer dives into the lake from time to time _________.
A. to change the lures(鱼饵) B. to do some exercise
C. to cast a fishing line D. to cool himself down
44. We learn from the last paragraph that _________.
A. Dyer aims to behave like a normal person
B. physical disabilities fail to destroy his faith
C. special equipment is allowed when fishing
D. it seems easy for Clay Dyer to go fishing
45. Which word best describes Clay Dyer’s personality?
A. Diligent. B. Inspiring. C. Faithful. D. Stubborn.
41. A
I want to do it with one hand the way they do it with two" 可知,Clay Dyer要像正常的垂钓者从事钓鱼活动,而不愿意搞任何特殊。
His motto for life is "If I can, you can"(“如果我能,你也能”。)

Today, I read an interesting article about television viewing. In one experiment, families were paid to stop watching TV for either a week or a month. Many could not complete the task and some families even fought, verbally or physically. It was quite interesting and now I will say something about TV.
After TV became a product most families could afford, people bought and started to watch their new TVs. Both adults and children became less creative in problem solving, less able to persevere(坚持) at tasks, and less tolerant of unstructured time.
In my family, we grew up with the TV on. Every weekend, we watched Gun Smoke and Bonanza together as a family. TV provides us with a comfortable background when we want to learn a foreign language at home, and it entertains us cheaply with live action sports, incomparable performing arts and important events of the world. In addition, it educates us about everything from the cells in our body to the galaxies in the universe.
Perhaps it’s not even practical to live without television unless our views change abruptly as
we get older. I don’t think that TV damages us so much as it robs us of time that could be spent doing other things such as learning new skills, getting some exercise or doing volunteer work.
I was lucky to have a family that watched TV together. Today there seems to be a TV in every room of the house and there’s no need to agree on a program to watch. To watch TV or not to watch TV is more of a question for adults than for us, and even though we all say we want to cut down the time we spend in front of the tube, we never really do. TV has us hypnotized!
46. The experiment in Paragraph 1 is intended to show ________.
A. how interesting watching TV is B. how much people like watching TV
C. whether people like watching TV D. what people do after giving up watching TV
47. After most families could afford a TV, they became _____.
A. more active at work B. more crazy in solving problems
C. less tolerant of TV time D. less concentrated on tasks
48. According to Paragraph 3, the author and his family ______.
A. spend weekends watching TV in every room
B. get a lot of valuable experience in watching TV
C. want to cut down the time spent in front of TV
D. can afford a TV for each one of the family
49. The author thinks ________.
A. it’s practical to live with television
B. it’s not practical to live with television
C. people’s view about watching TV has changed
D. when we get older, our view about watching TV will change
50. In the last paragraph the underlined sentence means ______.
A. we are really hooked on our TV
B. we are really proud of our TV
C. TV robs us of available time
D. TV benefits us greatly

A month after Hurricane Katrina, I returned home in New Orleans. There lay my house, reduced to waist-high rains, smelly and dirty.
Before the trip, I’d had my car fixed. When the office employee of the garage was writing up the bill, she noticed my Louisiana license plate. “You from New Orleans?” she asked. I said I was, “No charge.” She said, and firmly shook her head when I reached for my wallet. The next day I went for a haircut, and the same thing happened.
As my wife was studying in Florida, we decided to move there and tried to find a rental house that we could afford while also paying off a mortgage(抵押贷款) on our ruined house. We looked at many places, but none was satisfactory. We’d began to accept that we’d have to live in extremely reduced circumstances for a while, when I got a very curious e-mail from a James Kemmedy in California. He’d read some pieces I’d written about our sufferings for state, the online magazine and wanted to give us (“no conditions attached”) a new house across the lake from New Orleans. It sounded a good to her return, but I replied, thinking him for his exceptional generosity, then we to go back. Then the University of Florida offered to let him house to me. While he want to England on his one year, paid leave. The rent was rather reasonable. I mentioned the poet’s offer to James Kemdedy, and the next day he sent a check covering our entire rent for eight months.
Throughout this painful experience, the kindness of strangers has done much to bring back my faith in humanity. It’s almost worth losing you wordy possessions to be reminded that people really when given had a channel. w*w*w*k*s*5*u*c*o*m

If parents would like their kids to be successful as adults, there are some methods of achieving this which may be surprising. All they have to do is begin chores(零工,家务)early in their children’s lives, and they set the stage for future success.
If you were told about a method of increasing your children’s self-esteem, you’d probably be interested. If you were told this same method helped your family to feel more like a team, and helped your kids contribute to family chores, you’d probably be thrilled.
This method is available to all of us. All it takes is a little teaching, and a little patience. Then, you get to sit back and wait for the investment to pay off.
Researchers at the University of Minnesota studied a group of young men and women from the time they were young children. The results of the study were startling. The study showed that young adults, who had participated in household chores when they were age 3 and 4, were more successful as adults than those who didn't.
Specifically, these young adults were more likely to complete their education, get a good start on a career, develop adult relationships, and avoid the use of drugs.

As states in the passage, it seems that the more daily chores the kids do, the bigger achievement they’ll possibly make in the future.
I can’t agree more with the author. But how to get kids to have a good attitude towards chores? First, Start them young. when I could make a mess, I was asked to put toys back to where it belonged. Secondly , Make chores Fun! Because just as a fun, relaxed work environment for kids makes for an enjoyable job. This seems to get everyone going. Another way to create a fun atmosphere is to add a little competition! Finally, Lead by Example! When I was young, I knew of a family where the children were responsible for almost all of the chores while their parents hardly lifted a finger around the house.
Having kids do daily chores not only brings with it the rewards of a clean house, but can also encourage responsibility, skills, and values that can last a lifetime.
