Bored during a long flight, a well-known professor leaned over and woke up the sleeping man next to him and asked if he would like to play a game, “I’ll ask you a question,” the professor explained, “and if you don’t know the answer, you pay me $5. Then you ask me a question, and if I don’t know the answer, I’ll pay you $50.” When the man agreed to play, the professor asked, “What’s the distance from the earth to the moon?” Flummoxed(狼狈的), the man handed him $5. “Ha!” said the professor, “it’s 238,857 miles. Now it’s your turn.” The man was silent for a few moments. Then he asked, “What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four?” Puzzled, the professor racked his brains(绞尽脑汁)for an hour—but without success. Finally he took out his wallet and handed over $50. “OK, what’s the answer?” the professor asked. I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my job stand in the way of being a good parent. I no longer consider myself the center of the universe. I slow up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows(誓约)mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends, and they to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today. So here’s what I wanted to tell you today: Get a life — a real life, not a desire of the next promotion(提升), a bigger paycheck, or a larger house. Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure, it is work. Pick up the phone. Send an e-mail. Write a letter. And realize that life is the best thing and that you have no right to take it for granted. It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours, and our minutes. It is so easy to exist instead of to live. I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all. I learned to love the journey, not the destination(目的地). I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned. Tell them this: Read in the backyard with the sunshine on your face. Learn to be happy. Because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion(激情)as it ought to be lived. 64.The best title of this passage probably is ________. A.Love Your Friends B.Live a Real Life C.Don’t Waste Time D.Be a Good Mother and Wife 65.By the underlined sentence “It is so easy to exist instead of to live” in the fifth paragraph, the author really means that people tend to ________. A.make a living rather than live a real life B.work rather than enjoy life C.forget the most important lesson in life D.waste a lot in life 66.What’s the author’s attitude toward work? A.Do it well to serve others. B.Earn enough money to make life better. C.Try your best to get higher position and pay. D.Don’t let it affect your real life. 67.It can be inferred from the passage that ________. A.the author is a success in personal life B.the author doesn’t try her best to work well C.the author spends all her time caring for her children D.the author likes traveling very much

Dear Customers,
I love slipping into a comfortable chair for a long read — as I relax into the chair, I also relax into the author’s words, stories, and ideas. The physical book is so wonderful that it disappears into the background, and what remains is the author’s world. Today, we at Amazon are excited to announce Mindle, a wireless, portable(便携的)reading device with instant access(渠道)to more than 90,000 books, magazines, and newspapers. We’ve been working on Mindle for more than three years. Our top design aim was for Mindle to disappear in your hands — to get out of the way you are used to — so you can enjoy your reading. We also wanted to go beyond the physical book. Mindle is wireless, so whether you’re lying in bed or riding on a train, you can think of a book, and have it in less than 60 seconds. No computer is needed — you do your reading directly from the device. We chose the same wireless technology used in advanced mobile phones. But unlike mobile phones, there are no monthly bills, and no service or data plans. There is no software to install(安装). We want you to get lost in your reading and not in the technology. Mindle uses a new kind of display called electronic paper. Clear and natural with no strong light, reading on Mindle is nothing like reading from a computer screen. Mindle weighs only 10.3 ounces — less than a paperback— but can carry two hundred books. Enjoy learning about Mindle and many thanks! A.advertisement B.news story C.lab report D.letter of thanks 69.From the passage, we learn that Mindle is a device which ________. A.enjoy reading when driving a car B.improve reading skills C.gain access to free software D.get rid of heavy books made of paper 71.Different from mobile phones, Mindle ________. A.has a much more friendly screen B.doesn’t involve regular fees C.can work in the absence of electricity D.is wireless and can be used anywhere

In China he’s known as “the Flying Fish”; in America they call him “the Baltimore Bullet”. Whatever you call him, American swimmer Michael Phelps looks destined(注定)to become a household name across the world after breaking the Olympic record for most gold medals in a single Games. Phelps’s total of eight gold medals in Beijing put him one ahead of Mark Spitz’s previous(先前的)record set in 1972. Now people are already calling him the greatest Olympian of all time. But whether he is or not, what is it that makes Michael Phelps so good? A good place to start might be his physique(体格). Phelps has the perfect body shape for a swimmer: his arm span is longer than his height; he has very flexible joints(灵活的关节),huge lungs, and his incredibly large feet(size 14 in the US, size 49 in China)act like flippers(蹼)in the water. To feed his huge swimmer’s body, Phelps eats an astonishing 12,000 calories a day, six times the average for a man of his age. He then owes it to a swimsuit which has been making waves in the world of swimming. Designed by NASA, the American space agency, the suit is made of a special material which is said to help athletes swim 2% faster. Michael Phelps should spare a thought for his mum, who first pushed him into swimming as a way of making friends, and who believed in him when one teacher said he would never be a success. Whatever the reason for his success, Phelps admits there was perhaps also a bit of luck involving in winning his eight medals. “I guess eight is a lucky number for me, too, now. The opening ceremony started on 8/8/08. Maybe it was meant to be.” he said. 72.How many gold medals did Mark Spitz won in 1972? A.6 B.7 C.8 D.9 73.What makes Michael Phelps so popular? A.He has broken the Olympic record for most gold medals in a single Games. B.He is equipped with the best swimsuit designed by an American space agency. C.He is a very lucky person with a lot of people to help him. D.He has a very good appetite and eats six times the average for a man of his age. 74.According to the passage, how many calories does a man need a day on average? A.4,000 B.3,000 C.2,000 D.6,000 75.Which of the following is the reason for his success, in Phelps’ opinion? a.his physique b.the swimsuit designed by NASA c.his mother’s encouragement d.good luck e.his confidence A.a, c, d, e B.a, b, c, e C.a, b, d, e D.a, b, c, d

Fast Food
Fast food is becoming more and more popular in China now, especially among children and teenagers.
There are several reasons for this. First, it is very convenient, and it can save a lot of time. You just go into a fast food restaurant, order your food, and the food is ready in no time. Second, you can eat it there in the restaurant or take it away. It is at your own pleasure. What’s more, the environment of a fast food restaurant is both clean and comfortable. Also, the service is usually good.
However, in terms of nutrition, fast food is far from being satisfactory. It is not a balanced diet. It is too high in fat and sugar, while too low in nutritional value. Therefore, it is bad for your health. People, especially children, should have it as little as possible.
