B     The capital of Switzerland,Bern,is a beautiful city.It was founded in 1191   and has a lot of attractions and historic sites as well as an active cultural life.It is here that Albert Einstein once worked.     The city of Bern was built with local sandstone in Gothic style(哥特式)with more arcades(拱廊)than any other city in Europe. It is one of the most attractive old towns in Europe, and is famous for its great sandstone buildings, historical towers and eleven famous fountains.Over the centuries, the city has been protected very well, and in 1 983 the UNESC0(联合国科教文组织)claimed Bern a World Heritage Site.     One house after the other and shop after shop, rows of shops are connected by ong sandstone arcades.Rain or shine,it is a pleasure to walk along one of the longest shopping streets.Bern has Switzerland’s tallest Gothic cathedral(大教堂).The Münster-Terrasse,a square in front of the cathedral, has been a famous meeting place for centuries.     The wonderful Clock Tower has puppets(木偶)that come out before the hour and perform a 1ittle short play. The Center Paul Klee shows the largest collection in the world of one of the world’s greatest 20th century artists. The Swiss Alpine Museum displays a history of the Swiss Alps(阿尔卑斯山)。Bern's shining green river,Aare, winds its way alongside the old town and is lined with a number of scenic spots.Only a few minutes’walk from the station will take you to its tree-lined banks surrounded by nature. The Aare attracts people of all ages, especially in summer when the clean water invites you to iump into the river. It is during this time that mahy of the people in Bern enjoy swimming. 59.According to the passage, which of the following does Bern NOT have? C     The swallows of Capistrano may be famous for returning to the same nests each spring. But they have nothing on the purple martins(紫燕).These beautiful birds spend each winter in the warm climate of south America, then return each spring to nesting places in the Southeastern United States.     Purple martlns are birds that are pleasant to watch. Many people also like to have the martins around because the birds control insect pests. If hollow gourds (葫芦)with two-inch open spaces are hung out for them, martins are happy to move in.  They require only small open spaces to discourage wild animals from eating them. The gourds should also be hung in an open place away from buildings or trees,so squirrels or cats can’t disturb the birds.     Common garden grown gourds sometimes rot(腐烂)in the climate of the southeast,  so many purple martin lovers have tried using different materials to create stronger nest.Lengths of plastic pipe have been used, along with old-fashloned wooden bird houses with martin-sized entrance holes, but the birds clearly prefer the shape of a gourd. One company is now selling a plastic gourd, just the right size and shape with a two-inch entrance hole for the martins. The hole is high enough to allow the martins about four inches. The plastic gourd can be used for a long time.     The permanent(永久的)state is important for martin lovers because the birds can beeome almost part of the family. Some families have had the same groups of martins returning to their yards each year for sixty days.  63.The purpose of the passage is to________.   A.discuss the swallows of Capistrano   B.describe homes for purple martins   C.discuss the season journey of purple martins   D.discuss the uses of gourds 64.According to the passage, which of the following statements is Not True?     A.Gourds should be hung in open spaces.     B.Small open spaces in gourds discourage wild animals.     C.The swallows of Capistrano are actually purple martins.     D.Plastic gourds are now being sold as homes for purple martins. 6 5.It can be concluded from the passage that______.     A.some people try to make proper nest to attract purple martins     B.purple martins never nest in the same place two years     C.too many purple martins nesting in one area can become a harm     D.plastic gourds are not as good as wooden bird houses  66.The passage suggests that______.     A.wooden bird houses are too small for purple martins     B.Durple martins refuse to live in any place but plastic gourds     C.purple martins are dangerous to small animals     D.Purple martins don’t like to live with squirrels. D     The publication of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince pleases booksellers across China. The British and American editions were No.1 and No.3 separately on the sales chart of the Beijing Xidan Book Building last week. The book’s poster is highlighted and news about the book can often be heard on the radio.        Why is the book so attractive to children? With curiosity, I got a copy of “Harrv Potter”.At first,I wanted to glance over it and made some criticisms(批 评).But,out of expectation,I have been deeply attracted by the magic world. On the other hand, one can’t help asking:Where is our own“Harry Potter”?      The Chinese nation has a history of 5,000 years. With a vast market of youngsters.China did publish many books popular among children. However, why are the present works not as.good as those imported(进口的)?      There come two major reasons:Firstly, quite a number of children’s books are of strong sense of teaching, and lack interest and entertainment.Children often have a feeling of being“educated”.No wonder they don’t like them.Secondly, children’s reading materials involving“idiom stories”and“Chinese talents’ stories”,though always in different covers, are usually much the same. Some books are plagiarized. The authers take words, ideas from someone else’s work. One knows the ending as early as in the beginning. In final analysis, the authors of the books seldom take children’s requirements into consideration.      As a matter of fact, each child has his own wonderful imagination. They hope to understand the world and nature.Similarly they.have their own choices. They dislike similar stories.even if the stories are excellent.First-class reading for children should be very interesting, which contains knowledge and the essence(精 髓)of national culture, which are presented in children’s language.      Market is a touchstone for products. The theory also holds true for cultural products. It is hoped that the authors of children’s books can learn something from the good market of“Harry Potter”and write out more and better books loved by children. 67.Our books have the following disadvantages EXCEPT that_______.   A.they have little sense of interest and entertainment   B.many of our books are of the same   C.our authors know what our children need        D.the authors didn’t pay much attention to the children’s tastes 68.What does the underlined word“plagiarized”in mean in Chinese?     A.改编    B.杜撰    C.印刷    D.剽窃 69.The reason why Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is so popular is that____.     A.it opens a magic world for children     B.it has little sense of teaching     C.it is only written in children’s language     D.it is advertised more on TV or poster 70.What does the writer mean by writing“Where is our own Harry Potter”?     A.We Chinese produce more books than other countries.     B.We are short of books for children and adults.     C.Our authors are expected to make the market of children’s books take off.     D.Authors should write books named“Harry Potter”. 第二卷(共三部分,满分35分) 注意事项:请将答案写在答题纸上 五、单词拼写(共10空,每小题0.5分,满分5分) 根据首字母或所给汉语写出空缺处单词的适当形式,使句子完整。每空一词。 71.He always fails exams, for he spends little time making enough p________for his examinations. 72.Now the girl is in hospital recovering from liver f________. 73.There were about 300 students from our school a_______the lecture yesterday. 74.He hurried here i______ he heard the news. 75.Children are often c_______about everything. They will keep asking questions. 76.As far as I know, this scientist has made quite a few important______(发现)in this field. 77.The company mainly______(出版)books for children every year. 78.You should give me a clear_______(解释)of your conduct. 79.Some of the students had_______(体验)hardships before they entered the university. 80.He told me he was much________(羞愧)of having lied to his mother. 六、信息转换(共20空,每空0.5分,满分10分) 根据上一句的意思,完成下一句,每空一词。 81.I would like to make friends with you.
