Machu Picchu is considered to be a truly extraordinary archaeological(考古学的)discovery and is one of South America’s largest tourist sites. As many as one thousand visitors visit the ancient Incan(印加文化的)ruins daily. What draws vacationers and adventurers to this remote location high in the Andes Mountains of Peru(秘鲁)?A large part of the attraction is the mysteries that surround Machu Picchu. For example, Machu Picchu is considered“the lost city”of the Incas because it was never found by Spanish invaders and was known to only a few local peasants for almost four hundred years.
The “city in the clouds”, Machu Picchu’s lasting beauty comes from the careful blending of its striking architecture with its mountaintop environment. Its greatest skill shows are in the stone structures, which equals that of the ancient Egyptians. The stone blocks were so appropriately cut that they fit together without the need for mud. The largest stones at Machu Picchu weigh as much as fifteen tons! It has been difficult to explain how the huge blocks were transported. The buildings, including many that have survived lots of earthquakes, contain stones which interlock so perfectly that a knife cannot be forced between them. When compared to other ancient civilizations, it is difficult to understand how Machu Picchu could have been missed by the Spanish lost from history for four hundred years.
For many of the mysteries of Machu Picchu being unsolved, it is clear why Machu Picchu remains “the most famous ruins in all of South America”.
64. Which of the followings is NOT a mystery of Machu Picchu?

Memory, they say, is a matter of practice and exercise. If you have the wish and really make a conscious effort, then you can quite easily improve your ability to remember things. But even if you are successful, there are times when your memory seems to play tricks on you.
Sometimes you remember things that really did not happen. One morning last week, for example, I got up and found that I had left the front door unlocked all night, yet I clearly remember locking it carefully the night before.
Memory “trick” work the other way as well. Once in a while you remember not doing something, and then find out what you did. One day last month, for example, I was sitting in a barber shop waiting for my turn to get a haircut, and suddenly I realized that I had got a haircut two days before at the barber shop across the street from my office.
We always seem to find something funny and amusing in incidents caused by people’s forgetfulness or absent-mindedness. Stories about absent-minded professors have been told for years, and we never get sick of hearing new ones. Unfortunately, however, absent-mindedness in not always funny. There are times when “trick” of our memory can cause us great trouble.
68. The following paragraph of the passage may be about .
A. dealing with the troubles about absent-mindedness
B. where and how our memory goes wrong.
C. people to whom absent-mindedness happens
D. examples about troubles caused by absent-mindedness
69. In the passage, the writer seems to tell you .
A. forgetting things is serious and dangerous
B. always forgetting things is understandable
C. forgetting things at times is natural
D. the way to protect yourself from memory “tricks”
70. The best title for this passage is .
A. How to play tricks on Memory
B. “Tricks” Of Memory
C. Forgetfulness or Absent-mindedness
D. Get Rid of Absent-mindedness
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Is the customer always right? 71 Shopping is very much a part of a country’s culture, and attitudes to shopping and consumers vary from country to country just as much as climate or taste in food.
Recent economic hardship has given the consumers increased power in Europe because shopkeepers fight to win their share of reduced disposable(可支配的)income. This has meant falling prices, plenty of special offers and a re-examination of what customer service really means.
72 In restaurants in the south of the USA, for example, waiters compliment(恭维)you on your clothes, ask about your day, compliment you on your wisdom of your order and then return every ten minutes to refill your glass and make sure that everything is to your satisfaction.
Anyone who has waited 30 minutes to be served in a restaurant may possible dream of such customer service. 73 In fact, different nationalities expect different types of service. As a friend of mine once told me.“By the end of evening I had spent as much time talking to the waiter as to my wife.”
A Chinese-American friend loves telling people about how her Chinese mother shops for clothes. First of all she waits until they are on sale. 74 And later she finds some small fault with the product and demands a further reduction. She never buys anything at the regular price. Could you imagine trying such ways in department stores in other countries?
Attitudes to service are, of course, affected by employer’s attitudes to their workers. As American waiters heavily depend on tips, they have to provide more service. But is this fair? 75 It might not be a case of “Is the customer always right?” but a case of “How much service is it fair to expect?”
A. People often point to America as an example of good customer service.
B. It is a question of expectations.
C. Do we think it is fair to ask shop assistants to work late evenings or on Sundays?
D. Then she asks for a discount until she gets an even better price.
E. The answer, it seems, depends on which country you are in.
F. The way we shop shows the way we get along with other people.
G. However, do Europeans really want US style service?
