There are so many people related to this accident. Zhang Shunwen, the captain of the vessel(船), has been probably the person being mostly discussed now.‎ Born in 1963, Zhang has been working on this ship for 35 years and became captain of it in 2007. Until the accident, Zhang was regarded as an effective captain and his experience as a sailor was flawless with numerous awards.‎ Zhang Shunwen said the wind was coming from the South, and the wind then was about three to four grade. He first tried to ride the ship northward on the leeside in an effort to counter it with the vessel's speed. However, the wind suddenly gathered speed and he lost control of the ship. "We couldn't fend off the wind even if we made a full left turn." he said.‎ Zhang escaped alive and is under watching by police, although he has not yet been accused of any wrongdoing. Every person has his opinion toward this kind behavior of police. Some of them think of it to be improper because the captain himself is also a victim in this accident, what’s more, his wife, who also boarded on this boat, remains missing now. While others are in support of this action, to them, it is the captain who should shoulder the responsibility. For me, I agree with the former. Because the captain has made every effort to deal with the accident.‎ ‎25.Zhang becomes the captain after years of work.‎ A.25. B.26. C.27. Well, I can’t .Ever since I was little I would go to the library and take out numerous books. From picture books to beginning chapter books to YA books, books have always been a part of my life. Unlike many people today, I don’t own a Kindle or a Nook or any type or e-reader. I prefer the old-fashioned book. There is something about holding a book and being able to turn the pages that I find comforting. In today’s 21st century, books may become obsolete. For me that’s something I find scary.‎ I am a fan of the old TV science-fiction series Twilight Zone. One episode(一段情节) is about a librarian who has become obsolete. Though this episode aired in 1961, the writer of the series, Rod Serling was exactly on point when it came to predicting the future.‎ In fact, in San Antonio‎, ‎Texas the first-ever bookless library in the country opened. The library is full of iMacs, tablets and iPads which cost a huge $2.3 million. The library offers around 10,000 e-books. So the question is , is this what the future will soon be? Mary Graham, vice president of South Carolina’s Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce states, “This is the future. If you’re going to be building new library facilities, this is what you need to be doing.”‎ It is our generation that will be the guinea pigs(试验品) of increasing technology like this. Is this a good or a bad thing? Well, digital libraries may help the environment by not using paper; however, I feel like something will always be lacking with a digital book. A digital library is just the beginning. With all of this new technology, people seem to be more absorbed in their own world. One of my biggest complaints is when I am with my friends and they can’t seem to get off their smart phone and talk to me. To make plans with a friend and then have them stuck on their phone the whole time is extremely rude. Not only is it disrespectful, but it reflects the direction of where human interactions are heading. Though social media is great , it also is addicting and has negative effects.‎ Often when I go on Facebook it just makes me feel worse about myself. I will see many of my 800 Facebook friends showing off their newest accomplishment or acceptance to college. Additionally, our society is becoming increasingly lazy. For instance, instead of doing mental maths, people use their phone to solve 89+74. It is simple tasks like these that are allowing people to lack important educational and social skills.‎ It is up to us to find a balance between technology and human values and interactions.‎ 14‎ ‎ With new technology being created every day, we need to learn how to use it alongside our great minds. After all, inventions are supposed to benefit society not harm it. In the day of technology, who knows what’s next?‎ ‎28.The underlined word“obsolete”(Paragraph 1) is closest in meaning to . ‎ ‎ A.expensive B.complex C.outdated D.meaningless ‎29. What can we infer from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2?‎ A.The episode still enjoys great popularity nowadays.‎ B.The situation of books today is similar to what Rod Serling predicted in the episode.‎ C.Rod Serling liked making predictions about the future.‎ D.The episode airing in 1961 was the most entertaining of the TV science-fiction series.‎ ‎30.Which of the following will the writer probably disagree with?‎ ‎ A.Great as social media is, it does have some negative effects.‎ B.With the increasing use of social media, something will actually be lost.‎ C.Through social media, people can develop educational and social skills around.‎ D.As a result of social media, people may communicate less with the people around.‎ ‎31.The tone of the passage is best described as .‎ ‎ A.Skeptical B.Optimistic C.Supportive D.Objective D The SAT and ACT are standardized tests widely used for college admissions(招生) in the US.They are now optional(非强制的) at many four-year colleges. But there is still much discussion today about whether colleges should stop requiring the SAT or ACT.‎ Many educators believe high school grades, not test scores, are the best predictor of college success.William C.Hiss is the former Dean of Admissions, at Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine. With his workmate, he recently completed a national study of 123,000 students at 33 colleges and universities. Their basic question was simple: Do students admitted without SAT or ACT scores succeed in college? About 30 percent 14‎ ‎ of the students in their study were admitted without SAT or ACT scores. Their study found no clear differences between students who had SAT/ACT scores and those who had not.Students with good high school grades generally perform well in college, even if they had even poor SAT or ACT scores.Hiss believes hard work and good grades in high school are what matter most.“It’s more important to show what you have achieved over four years, not in four hours on one Saturday morning,” he said.‎ However, some experts worry optional-testing policies cannot achieve fairness. They say national test such as the SAT and ACT are very important for comparing the knowledge and skills of students from different high schools. There are more than 35,000 public and private high schools in the US.There are big differences among them, and it’s impossible for college admissions offices to be familiar with all of them. The standards for an A at one school might be completely different than at another.‎ ‎“No one should be measured by only one number,” said Wayne Camara, senior vice president for Research, ACT.“But because everyone should have a level playing field, colleges should continue using standardized test scores as one of the things they consider.”‎ Both sides of the argument make sense, and it is hard to say which one is more convincing. So it is up to the college or university itself to decide on their admissions policies.‎ ‎32.Hiss did the study to find out the relationship between ___________.‎ A.high school grades and SAT/ACT scores B.SAT/ACT scores and college success C.high school grades and hard work D.hard work and SAT/ACT scores ‎33.By saying the underlined words, Hiss wants to show ___________.‎ A.the importance of high school performance B.the problem of high school education C.the advantage of SAT and ACT scores D.the influence of studying on weekends ‎34.The experts in Paragraph 3 believe national standardized tests ___________.‎ A.give college admissions offices much trouble B.help improve students’ knowledge and skills C.are being taken by more students 14‎ D.can show students’ differences ‎35.How is the text organized?‎ ‎ ‎ CP: Central Point P: Point Sp: Sub-point(次要点) C: Conclusion 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Tara‎’s last-minute win More than 7,000 people saw an exciting third and last round of the women’s Big Air contest at the Winter X Games at Mount Snow, Vermont.Tara Dakides, a regular winner of top events, won with the very last jump of the competition.‎ After the first two jumps, Barrett Christy was in first place, with Tara in tenth position. 36 Christy jumped well, and Tara knew that her third and last jump had to be good. She jumped perfectly, a 540°turn, and the scores came up quickly on the board. 37 ‎ ‎“In the first two rounds I jumped badly,” said Tara.“But in the third round, when I heard the people shouting‘Tara! Tara!’I relaxed.I jumped well, much better than before.”‎ ‎ 38 “I practice this jump regularly and I know I could do it.So I went down the hill fast, a lot more quickly than the first two times, and it worked! For one thing, it is very easy 14‎ ‎ for students to form the habit of dependence. For another, teenagers should have a good rest during their spare time. Most importantly, it is thought that most of tutors just want to earn money rather than help these students.‎ ‎ I think it depends whether a tutor is needed. You can have a try if you really have some trouble in learning.‎ 14‎
