2019·、等四校高三联考
It's not unusual to see an unreasonable child lying on the ground drumming his
heels.Beside him is a desperate mother yelling at the top of her lungs.Raising a
wellbehaved kid is really a hard thing.
If you took all the parenting styles around the world and ranked them by their
gentleness, the Inuit( 因 纽 特 人 )approach would certainly rank near the top.All the
moms mention one golden role:Don't shout or yell at small children.Inuit's noyelling
policy is their key to raising coolheaded kids. The culture views scolding , or even
speaking to children in an angry voice , as inappropriate , although little kids are
pushing_parents'_buttons.
Playful“storytelling”is another trick to shaping kids' behavior. But this storytelling
differs hugely from those fairy tales full of moral lessons. Parents “retell”what
happened when a boy threw a tantrum( 发 脾 气 )by way of what Shakespeare would
understand all too well:putting on a “drama”. After the child has calmed down, the
parents will review what happened when the child misbehaved, usually starting with a
question:“Can you show us how to throw a tantrum?” Then the child has to think
what he should do.If he takes the bait and performs the action, the mom will ask a
followup question with a playful tone. For example:“Does that seem right?” or
“Are you a baby ? ” She is getting across the idea that “big boys” won't throw a
tantrum.
Kids' brains are still developing the need for selfcontrol. What you do in response
to your children's emotions shapes their brains. So next time, seeing your boy misbehave,
try using the Inuit's storytelling approach. And don't forget to keep cool. After all, boys
will be boys.

安徽省芜湖市 2018 届高三英语 5 月模拟考试The coffee giant Starbucks is once again a popular search on the Internet, and
there are people who think that coffee is now replacing tea as the most popular drink in
China.But, is that really so?
Starbucks opened its biggest café shop in the world in Shanghai this Wednesday.
The coffee giant says this will not only give customers the usual great coffee, but also
give them the full experience of how the magical coffee beans get roasted to become
those wonderful drops that make up their favorite drinks. It is like the Willy Wonka
factory for coffee lovers. The company is expanding aggressively, and opening a new
store every 15 hours on average in China.
China has very rich and splendid tea culture. What seems like the most enjoyable
thing is to drink a cup of tea on a quiet day that is full of “Zen” (禅) spirit. But the
fastpace of life sometimes doesn't allow that. So there are tea shop owners locating
their shops in the downtown area in order to provide quick service for customers. Take
Heytea for example. It's one of the most highly rated tea shops and it has now opened
several new branches in the business areas of big cities like Beijing. Waiting in lines for
longer than one hour is common. China's consumption of tea is immeasurable.
According to a research of USC Institute, in China, the average person consumes 400
cups of tea per year.
So it is unlikely that coffee can replace tea as the country's main drink any time
soon. The expanding coffee shops are not there to replace tea, but to provide people
with another choice that they can use to enjoy life.

Most kids lucky enough to grow up with books discover a character who inspires
them. When I was a kid, many girls loved the teenage detective Nancy Drew. She was
popular and smart. As a 9yearold girl, I was different from others.
Then at my ninth birthday party, I met 9yearold Pippi Longstocking. Mom put
Astrid Lindgren's book on my lap and warned me to stay away from the other kids
because I had chickenpox (水痘). Therefore, there I was, sitting on the couch in the
living room, watching everyone in the dining room eat my cake quickly.Pippi was my true friend that day, and on many days to come. She was me, except
that her mother was gone and her father was a sailor. She also didn't have to go to
school. Her pigtails (辫子) were so tight that they stood straight out from her face. That
was the hair I liked. My sisters and I marched into the beauty shop as children and left
looking like the shortest grandmothers in Ohio.
Pippi carried out my every desire. She shocked adults with any question that she
wanted to ask and she was devoted to her friends. What I most loved was that she didn't
tolerate bullies. She threw them into trees and onto rooftops.
By the time I was a teen, I was fond of other girls in the fiction, for example,
Francie Nolan, but I never lost the relation with Pippi. I still admire her sense of justice.
Over the years I've written about a lot of bullies. Each time, I pull up a chair and raise
my fingers to the keyboard, and Pippi Longstocking starts to type.
