Dale Carnegie was an American writer and lecturer, and the developer of famous courses in self
－improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
Born in 1888 in Maryville, Missouri, Carnegie was a poor farmer's boy. His family moved to
Belton, Missouri when he was a small child. In his teens, though still having to get up at 4 am every
day to milk his parents' cows, he managed to obtain an education at the State Teacher’s College in
Warrensburg. His first job after college was selling correspondence courses. He moved on to selling
bacon, soap, and lard(猪油)for Armour & Company.
After saving $ 500, Dale Carnegie quit sales in 1911 in order to achieve a lifelong dream of
becoming a lecturer. He ended up instead attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New
York, but found little success as an actor. Later he got the idea to teach public speaking. In his first
session, he suggested that students speak about "something that made them angry", and discovered
the technique that made speakers unafraid to address a public audience. From its beginning, the Dale
Carnegie Course developed. Carnegie had made use of the average American's desire to have more
self-confidence.
Perhaps one of Carnegie's most successful marketing moves was to change the spelling of his
last name from "Carnagey" to Carnegie, at a time when Andrew Carnegie was a widely recognized
name.
Carnegie's works include Lincoln the Unknown(1932), Public Speaking and Influencing Men in
Business (1937), and How to Stop Worrying and Start Living (1948). His greatest achievement,
however, was when Simon &, Schuster published How to Win Friends and Influence People. The
book was a bestseller from 1936. By the time of Carnegie's death, the book had been sold five
million copies in 31 languages, and there had been 450, 000 graduates of his Dale Carnegie Institute. Carnegie died at his home in New York in 1955.

The Birth of Performer first appeared on Zhejiang Satellite TV in October and has already
received 330 million online views for just its first two episodes. The show has caused debate on
social media about the acting skills of some stars.
A flood of investment in China’s TV and film industry has driven up paychecks for popular
young attractive persons and soap opera sweethearts, but some stars have been slammed by the
public for lacking professionalism and acting skills.
"People wonder why some actors don't take acting seriously with more and more money
pouring in," Wu Tong wrote. However, he said that he had met many devoted young actors through

The third-generation hybrid rice which was developed by Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid
rice", and his team underwent its first public yield monitoring from Monday to Tuesday and
achieved high output. The final yield of the tested variety, G3-1S/P19, came to 1046. 3 kg per mu
(about 667 square meters), based on two pieces of land in Qingzhu Village under the city of
Hengyang in central China's Hunan Province.
"Some previous high-yielding hybrid rice varieties in China took 160 to even 180 days from
sowing to harvesting, while the figure was shortened to around 125 days for the new variety. This is
one of the most important characteristics of the third-generation hybrid rice that can reduce the use
of pesticides(杀虫剂)and fertilizers(肥料), thus reducing cost and improving production efficiency.
" said Qian Qian, the deputy director(副所长)of the China National Rice Research Institute.
Unlike the previous two generations that required a large amount of water and fertilizers as well
as demanding growing conditions and technological support, the third-generation hybrid rice is
easier to be grown by ordinary farmers. So the soil, altitude and climate of the test site were not "ideal conditions" carefully selected beforehand but were close to the rice fields of ordinary farmers.
Nowadays, China's average yield of rice is about 500 kg per mu. Ordinary farmers can produce
600 kg to 700 kg of rice per mu by growing some excellent second-generation hybrid rice varieties.
However, under the same planting conditions and environment, the yield of the third-generation
hybrid rice could reach 800 kg per mu. China now feeds around 20 percent of the world's population
with less than 9 percent of the world's farming land.
At present, Yuan's team has nine third-generation hybrid rice combinations under trial, which
are expected to achieve commercial seed production in the following three to four years and hope to
apply the technology into the research of sea rice. The third-generation hybrid rice has the
