When Susan White went back to high school a couple of years ago, she
never had any thought about actually getting a high school diploma.
“I just wanted to learn more,” she said. But when she found out that
many of her classmates were planning to graduate, Mrs. White recalled, “I
said my young friends can graduate from high school, so can I.”
She seems to have been right. As soon as she finishes a history course,
Mrs. White will graduate next month. And when she does, she will enter the
record books as the oldest person ever to graduate from high school in the
United States.
Mrs. White is 98 years old; and nobody has finished high school at an
older age.
Mrs. White dropped out of school ( 退 学 ) in the 10th grade, but her
ability to learn has obviously not been dulled(减弱) after she left school for
80 years. Since going back to her studies, she has kept up a straight record
that is the highest possible.
Now that she is about to get a diploma, Mrs. White has become a strong
believer in getting a good education.
“I don't like anyone dropping out of school,” she said. “It makes
me mad when a person decides to leave school, because future generations(后代)

"The Chinese Dream" is a hot topic of this year. Many Chinese young
people are inspired by the Chinese Dream. Everyone has their own dreams. They
give us courage and confidence to keep us going through difficulties. Here are
some advice on how to realize our beautiful dreams.
Never giving up is the key to make our dreams come true. We may fail
from time to time, but we can learn from failure, correct our mistakes and try
again until we achieve our goals. Our life is like a long journey which is not
all roses. It sometimes has wind and rain. We believe rainbows will appear
after storms.
Cooperation is also necessary. Everyone likes a person who is good at
cooperating with others. Besides, in our society most problems can't be solved
by one person alone. Cooperation is becoming one of the most important ways
for people living in the developing society.
At the same time, we should learn to examine our abilities because it
helps us know our advantages and disadvantages as well as get a full control
of ourselves. Then we may be confident enough to face challenges.
Follow the suggestions above, and our dreams are sure to come true.
49. How many suggestions of making dreams come true are mentioned in this
passage?
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.

You may know the English letters A, B and C. But do you know there are
people called ABCs? Do you know there is such a thing as "a banana person"?
How strange! ABC means American-born Chinese. An ABC is a Chinese, but was
born in the United States. Sometimes, people call an ABC a "banana person". A
banana is yellow outside. So, when a person is a "banana", he or she is white
inside—thinking like a Westerner and yellow outside—looking like a Chinese.
Usually, ABCs know little about China or the Chinese language. Some of
them don't speak Chinese. But if ABCs cannot speak Chinese, can we still call
them Chinese people? Yes, of course. They are overseas(海外的) Chinese. These
people may be citizens( 公 民 ) of another country like the US, Canada or
Singapore. But they have Chinese blood(血统). Their parents, grandparents or
even great grandparents were from China. They all have black eyes and black
hair.
But they are not Chinese citizens. They are people of the People's
Republic of China. For example, we all know the famous pop singer Leehom Wang
( 王 力 宏 ). Chinese people love him, especially young people. But he is an
American citizen.
52. "ABCs" in this passage means .
A. three English letters B. a kind of banana
C. Chinese born in America D. Americans born in China
53. Chinese in Western countries are called "banana persons"
because .
A. their bodies are white inside but yellow outside
B. they think like Westerners but look like a Chinese
C. they were born in China but go to study in America
D. they like to eat bananas
54. Which of the sentences is WRONG about ABCs?
A. They are Chinese citizens. B. They are overseas Chinese.
C. They may speak little Chinese. D. ABCs may know little about
China.
55. This passage mainly talks about .
A. different kinds of bananas B. overseas Chinese
C. the Nobel Prize D. the story of Leehom Wang
D
What will the house of the future look like? Could it have gardens on
its walls, or a pool with fish for dinner? Architects( 建 筑 师 ) believe that
they are all possibilities. The only thing for sure is that the houses will be
as green as possible.
The tree house
Many architects in the world would like to build a "tree house". Like
a leaf, the surface of the house collects sunlight during the day. The energy
can be used to heat water, produce electricity, and even create fresh air for
the home. The "root"(根) of the house is deep under the ground. It uses the
soil(土壤) to the home's temperature.
The lizard house
Like a lizard( 蜥 蜴 ), changing color with the weather is the most
important design of a lizard house. When it's in the bright sun, the cover of
the house will turn dark to protect it from strong heat. During dark days, it
turns white and takes in as much light and heat as possible to produce energy.
Meals at home
This design is perhaps as much about the future of food production as
architecture( 建 筑 风 格 ). It has gardens on the outside wall of the house.
People can plant tomatoes, carrots and green tea on them. So every day in the
morning, you just need to walk outside and collect your meals.
Learning from the past
Looking to the future isn't the only way to be green. Sometimes,
ancient techniques (古老的技术) can also help cut down energy use. For example,
a chimney(烟囱) can be a useful air conditioner because it is easier for hot
air to flow out at the chimney.
56. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Green Houses of the Future B. Different Kinds of Houses
C. The Greener, the Better D. How to Build Green Houses
57. We can heat water, produce electricity or create fresh air for the
home .
A. with the root of a leaf B. with the energy from
sunlight
C. with the soil under the ground D. with the tree built at
home
58. What will happen to the cover of the lizard house when it's in the bright
sun?
A. It will turn white. B. It will produce energy.
C. It will produce light. D. It will turn dark.
59. The passage seems to tell us that meals at home in the
future .
A. will be more delicious B. need more cooks
C. will be greener D. will be easy to cook
60. A chimney can be a useful air-conditioner but it used to
cause .
A. pollution B. accidents C. noise D. change
六、短文 6 选 5(共 5 小题;共 10 分)
What will life be like in the future? Will it be much better than it

be alive long after we are dead. We may be able to find ways of putting the
life of a person into a new body.
Narobots( 纳 米 机 器 人 ) will be important 63. For

七、阅读与表达(问答式)(共 5 小题;共 10 分)
Knowing about yourself means not only that you find out what you're
good at and what you like, it also means discovering what you're not good at
and what you don't like. Both help you to see your aim in fife.
Although most students would be unhappy if they found that they had
failed a very difficult physics course, they have in fact learned a lot about
themselves. They know that they should not become engineers or physical
scientists. So failing can help a student to live a much happier life if he or
she draws something out of the failing. They may then decide on their aim and
choose the kind of work they would be fit for and they would like to do.
It is impossible to decide whether or not you like something until you
have tried it. If you decide that you would like to play the piano, you need
to take more than one lesson before you can know whether you are really
interested in it or you are able to do well.
It is not enough to want to be a great pianist. You also have to like
the hard practice and long training before you become one. If you would enjoy
being a great pianist but hate the work, forget it.
It's a good plan to try as many ideas as possible when you are still
young. And then you will be able to find out what your interests are.
根据短文内容,完成下列小题。
66. Is it possible to decide what you like without trying?
67. To decide what to do in the future, which is more important, to find out
what you like, or to find out what you don't like?
68. In which way is failing important to people?
69. How can you find out your true interests?
70. What does it take to become a great pianist?
