Women's fashions tend to change more rapidly than men's. In the early
1900's all women wore their skirts down to the ankle. Today, skirt length
varies from floor-length to ten inches above the knee. Women's shoes have also
gone through all sorts of changes in the last seventy years. For example,
boots for women were very common at the beginning of last century. Then, for
years, they were not considered fashionable. Today they are back in style
again in all colors, lengths, and materials. In fact, today's women can wear
all types of clothes---even T-shirts and shorts on almost any occasion. While
all of these changes were taking place in women's fashions, men's clothing
remained pretty much the same until a couple of years ago. And ,in fact, most
men still wear the traditional:suit jacket, shirt, tie though bright colors,
patterns, and a variety in cut are now more common.
67. Nowadays women wear .
A. longer skirts than those women used to wear at the beginning of last
century
B. both long skirts and short skirts

For one week in April, millions of people chose to watch TV for “TV
Turn off week”.
TV Turnoff week started in 1995 and is more popular every year. Many
people discover that you can have a good time with the TV off. If that sounds
crazy to you, just have a look at some numbers:
-An American teenager spends 900 hours every year at school; the same
teenager spends 1,023 hours every year watching TV. That's 2 hours 49 minutes
every day.
-An average(平均) British person (not just teenagers) watches 3 hours
35 minutes every day.
-In the US, most TV has adverts. American children see 20,000 adverts
every year. By age 65, an American has seen two million ads!
But some research from Britain says that may not be a problem. The
London Business School watched people carefully during TV adverts and they
discovered that people don't watch a lot of the ads. The researchers
discovered that the most common activity during the adverts was walking to the
other people in the room. Many other people started reading or doing housework
or changed channels during adverts. They only really watched them about 25
percent of the time.
70. During TV Turnoff week, many people don't .
A. watch TV B. change channels
C. watch adverts D. do their school work
71. From the passage we can learn that .
A. American children see more adverts on TV than their parents
B. British people spend more than 3 hours a day in front of their TV
C. Researches noticed that most people changed channels during ads
D. An American teenager spends more time at school than watching TV
72. The writer's purpose is .
A. to advise us to spend less time on TV
B. to tell us how to avoid watching adverts
C. to show us how many adverts American TV has
D. to ask us to turn off TV during TV Turnoff week
C
Let's suppose it is a common day of 2060. Of course, things have
changed and life is very different.
Trips to the moon are being made every day. Taking a holiday on the
moon today is as easy as taking a holiday in Europe in the 2010s. At a number
of scenery spot (风景胜地) on the moon, many hotels have been built. In order
that everyone can enjoy the beautiful scenery on the moon, every room has at
least one picture window. Everything imaginable is provided for entertainment
of the young and old.
What are people eating now? People are still eating food. But many
foods now come in pill(药片) form, and the food that goes into the pill comes
mainly from green plants.
Because people in the world today are many more than those about fifty
years ago, most of the earth's surface has to be filled. The deserts are
irrigated with water and crops are no longer eaten by pets(害虫). The harvest
is always good.
Farming, of course, is very highly developed. Very few people have to
work on the farm. It is possible to run the farm by just using a few computers.
People are now largely vegetarians, and they eat only bread,
vegetables, fruit and so on and they don't eat meat or fish. You see, as the
number of people increases, the number of animals decreases. So people have to
be vegetarians. We are healthier both in our bodies and in our minds, and we
know how to deal with all kinds of illnesses. No one has to be ill any more.
Such would be our life in 2060.
73. What will be on the moon in 2060 according to the passage?
A. Many green plants.
B. Many wild animals.
C. Many interesting places.
74. What's the meaning of the underlined word "irrigated"?
A. 冲刷 B. 灌溉 C. 淹没
75. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. People only eat foods in pill form.
B. People don't have plenty of crops.
C. People run the farms by using high technology.
76. Why do people have to be vegetarians in 2060?
A. Because they want to be healthier.
B. Because vegetables can make the patients well.
C. Because there will be more people and fewer animals.
77. What attitude(态度) does the writer have about the future life?
A. He feels pretty hopeful about the future.
B. He is not very satisfied with some things of the future.
C. He seems really sad about what is happening in the future.
D
Most people want to be happy but few know how to find happiness. Money
and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker,
said, “Happiness depends on ourselves.” In other words, we make our own
happiness.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life.
Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future---for example,
getting into college or getting a good job, that we fail to enjoy the present.
You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book,
listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People
who have several close friends often enjoy happier and healthier lives.
Another secret to living a happy life is to be active, and have
hobbies where you forget your problem. Many people experience dancing or
playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems, and
only think about the activity.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show
that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want
to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or
her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elder person, or simply help
around the house by washing the dishes.
78. The second paragraph tells us that .
A. we shouldn't think about our future
B. some people fail to live a happy life
C. happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life
D. the more friends you have, the happier you will be
79. The passage gives us pieces of advice on happiness.
A. one B. two C. three D. four
80. Which of the following is not mentioned in the passage?
A. Reading a good book
B. Traveling to a foreign country
C. Playing a sport
D. Spending time with close friends

九、阅读与表达(问答式)(共 5 小题;共 10 分)
Is sleep important for children? A new study says yes.
In America, most people don't get enough sleep. Children aged 5 to 12
are advised to sleep 10 to 11 hours every night, but most of them can't sleep
that long. A study found that about 41 million American workers got less than
six hours of sleep every night. Scientists worry that parents are passing
their poor sleeping habits down to their children.
In the study, Reut Gruber and some other scientists either added or
reduced( 减 少 ) one hour of sleep for healthy children aged 7 to 11. They
watched the children for five nights. They wanted to know if the amount of
sleep can affect(影响) a child's behavior.
Before the study began, students were asked to sleep the same amount
of hours as usual. Their teachers were asked to record their behavior. After
changing the children's sleep for five nights, the teachers had to record
again. According to the two records, scientists found that those who slept one
hour less behaved worse than those who slept one hour more. Students with less
sleep were more likely( 可 能 的 ) to feel sad and had more problems paying
attention.
The scientists chose to study children in their homes instead of in a
laboratory, because they wanted to find out how everyday changes might affect
children's behavior at school. "In the study, nobody became a talent, and
nobody became crazy. But small changes in children can really make a big
difference," says Gruber.
根据短文内容,完成下列小题。
85. According to scientists, what may cause children to sleep less?
86. Why did scientists do the new study?
87. Who helped do some records in the new study?
88. Who did the scientists find behaved better in the new study?
89. Was the study done in a laboratory?
