Big Wednesday It did a beautiful job in representing true surfers and real surfing. Three friends spend their youth surfing their home break, hanging with friends, going to parties, and otherwise caring about nothing but friendship. They must ultimately (最终地)deal with fading youth and adult responsibilities. Directed by John Milius, surfers like Gerry Lopez, Ian Cairnes, and Peter Townend light up the screen with classic 60's style. Point Break The film tells the story of a gang of big wave surfers who rob banks to pay for their surf travel expenses. Johnny Utah (Reeves) and his partner (Gary Busey) must infiltrate (渗透)this illegal gang by learning to surf and becoming one of them. However, there is some good surfing and lines like this: “It's not tragic to die doing what you love. If you want the ultimate, you got to be willing to pay the ultimate price.” North Shore Packed with beautiful scenery and great male surfing, North Shore is unbelievable, but we should all be grateful it exists. Occy and Rob Paige portray a hard-drinking couple here. If you have ever been to the North Shore, you see that the Halloween parties, the shave ice and the strip clubs aren't all just a bunch of tropical legends, and they are small parts that add to the whole North Shore experience. Blue Crush It is a big screen event for sure. Kate Bosworth plays a young surfer with an impressive part- time career who must somehow overcome her fear of the reef (暗礁)while at the same time deal with her love for a football player. Will it all work out? Of course, but both the characters and scenery are beautiful, and there are some great female surf performances. 21. Which of the following shows us surfers in the '60s? A.Big Wednesday.B. Point Break. 22. What is Reeves supposed to do in the movie? A. Drink hard. C. Break a case. B. Handle fading youth. D. Date a football player. C. North Shore. D. Blue Crush. 23. What can we learn about North Shore and Blue Crush ? A. Neither of them has beautiful scenery. B. Both of them are involved in love affairs. C. Blue Crush is simply North Shore with female characters. D. Events portrayed in both of them are rooted in some truth. B By the time British adventurer Ash Dykes had reached Chongqing in Southwest China 178 days after setting out to trek(长途跋涉)the Yangtze River from its source to the sea, the most difficult part of the journey is over. To that point Dykes had completed about 2,430 miles, and "all" he now needed to do was to cover the next 1,550 miles in 187 days or less to complete the entire journey within a year. On August 26 last year a three-man team, including two guides and a horse, hit the road at the starting point, the source of the Yangtze in southern Qinghai Province. Then at different times for the next two months after starting, different people had come to join him. However, along the way, one by one, they quit. In order to cross the plateau (平原)and mountains in good weather, the journey was planned to start in summer, but because of delays in preparations, Dykes arrived in Qinghai in late August as the days were becoming shorter and colder. Unwilling to wait for another year, he decided to press on. Within a few days three of the adventurers were throwing up and bleeding, suffering from severe high altitude sickness. In the mountains, the team had to light firecrackers to scare offbears, and on one occasion they were followed by a pack of wolves for two days. They were forced to abandon the expedition. The rest of the trip would be much easier, Dykes said, and he urged members of the public to join him as a way of promoting the protection of the Yangtze River. He set out from Chongqing on the second half of the journey on March 11. What has impressed him most, he said, is the friendliness and hospitality of local people, to the point of their sharing their tiny, modest woodland houses with him and providing anything else he needed. Hard work, persistence, dedication and good management of expectations are his secret to succeed. 24. What can we know about Ash Dykes' expedition along the Yangtze River? A.It takes him half a year to finish the entire journey. B. It begins in Qinghai Province and ends in Chongqing. C. He needs to cover about 3 , 980 miles along the river. D. He will start the second half of the journey on August 26. 25. What contributed to his companions giving up the journey according to the text? A. Severe altitude sickness, injuries and fear of wild animals. B. Severe altitude sickness, frightening land and winter storms C. Shorter and colder days and boring and exhausting journeys. D. Shorter and colder days and physical and mental sufferings. 26. What changed his plan to start in summer? A. Cold weather. C. Lack of guides. B. Bad preparation. D. Illnesses of horses. 27. What does Ash Dykes appreciate most along the way? A. Attitudes of local people towards visitors. B. High expectations and hard work of local people. C. Increase in locals' awareness of the protection of the Yangtze River. D. Governmental efforts on environmental protection of the Yangtze River.
