Google says it will no longer permit its artificial intelligence, or AI technology to be used in any activities
involving weapons ( 武器) . The policy was one of several new principles aimed at guiding the company's
development and sale of AI technology and tools.
The principles were announced after, more than 4,000 Google employees signed a document calling for the
company to cancel an AI agreement, known as Project Maven, with the U.S.Department of Defense.
Kirk Hanson is director of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University in California.
The censer examines how ethics can be used as guidelines for technology development. He decided that the protest
by Google employees against the U.S. military agreement was based on fears: that AI technology could lead to the
creation of weapons which cause disasters to humans.5
“If you have artificial intelligence which identifies targets and automatically launches(发射)wea pons, you
have an autonomous weapon.Just as with driverless vehicles, autonomous weapon systems may not be as safe as
their supporters promise.
We should be more concerned about how an autonomous weapon might make a mistake. Is that artificial
intelligence targeting system as good as we think it is? And until we have trust that th ose systems will not make
mistakes,we’re going to keep skeptical about the use of artificial intelligence.”
A top Department of Defense official was asked about the use of autonomous weapons during an event last
year at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington: Air Force Gen. Paul J. Selva, vice
chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said such systems should never be used to replace human commanders.
Google chief Pichai said the company does not plan to stop providing AI technology for all military uses.He
said Google will still seek government projects in areas such as military training, Internet security and search and 、
rescue.
32. What new policy has Google announced about its AI technology?
A. To expand its application fields. B. To absorb advanced technologies.
C. To encourage its exchange activities. D. To restrict serving military purposes.
33.The underlined word "ethics"(in Paragraph 3)probably means .
A. moral principles B. military challenges
C. traditional virtues D. applied technologies
34.What is Hanson’s attitude to the Al technology for defense?
A. Enthusiastic. B. Doubtful. C. Positive. D. Confused.
35.What can we infer about Google and the Department of Defense?
A. They blame each other for the deal.
B. They share the same concern about AI.
C. No more deals will be possible between them.
D. They will continue to cooperate in other areas.
第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
As high school students, we must spend the vast majority of our time in class and reading books. 36
Without a friend, our world would be a wilderness. What kind of friends should we pick? What are the dos and
don’ts of friendship? Here are some of my opinions.
37 We may consider different people we meet every day to be nice and feel like making friends with them.
However, not all good people are matches for us. Rather than make friends with the popular students, we should
spend time with those we have things in common with, or who will be there to listen to us. Moreover, we should be
careful about students with many bad habits, since they could pass those habits on to us.
Being tolerant is a good idea. No one is perfect. 38 Therefore, we should try to understand our friends
and be patient with them when they make mistakes since we’re all on a journey to being better people. Gradually,
our friendships will last longer and become more solid.
Be honest. 39 However, it’s better to be honest with friends, to tell them what is bothering us and seek
their advice. Being honest will not annoy your friends, but it will bring you and your friend closer together.
We need to be open-minded. Listen to others’ ideas, whether you agree with them or not, and be happy to
make friends with your friends’ friends. 40
A. We must be careful.
B. We need to be well-informed.6
C. As is said, honesty is the best policy.
D. A friend without faults will never be found.
E. None are so deaf as those who will not hear.
F. Still, spending time with fiends is also necessary and good for us.
G. We all tend to show our positive side to fiends and hide our true feelings.

Dear David
I'm delighted to receive your letter in which you asked about our arrangements for the World Reading Day.
What deserves to be mentioned most is the theme of the reading day---reading Chinese Classics and
inheriting Chinese Culture. Obviously, its aim is to raise our awareness of passing on traditional Chinese culture
It's widely acknowledged that reading benefits us in many ways. Not only can it broaden our horizons but it
also deepens our thoughts. Therefore, a series of activities, such as Reading Salon, a Second-hand Book Exchange
will take place on that day.
How I wish you could join us!
Yours,
Lihua
