B I was getting ready to go to bed when the phone rang. This could not be good. My mind
raced through the list of family members who might need help, but the voice was hardly familiar.
“Lindy, this is Lesley.” I don’t know Lesley well. We did occasionally speak with each other,
but to say we were friends was not appropriate. I asked what she needed. Perhaps something really
awful caused her to reach someone she barely knew. Instead, she asked me, “Do you have room for
a turkey? In your freezer?” We had lots of room in our freezer, and in fact, too much. “Sure,” I
responded, “did your freezer break down?” “Not exactly,” Lesley replied, but I will explain when I
arrive.”
Minutes later came a huge freezer truck. Lesley stepped down and explained the lease(租约) of
the grocery store her husband serviced had run out and that they had to empty all the freezers that
very night. Thinking it was a shame to throw away all this good food, they decided to drop off food
to anyone she could think of. Noticing our freezer was pretty empty, Lesley asked to fill it up. Our
home was their last stop and anything left would have to be put in our freezer. An hour later,
everything finished, I asked her, “When will you come back for all this?” Lesley laughed, “We don’t
want it back. It is yours! Thanks for helping us out!” Then they waved goodbye and drove away.
“For helping them out?” We opened our freezer door. Inside were all expensive foods we never
bought but often longed to try. We were struggling to buy groceries, yet it was not something we
shared with anyone. However, our needs were met in an unexpected way, by that call, “Do you have
room for a turkey?”

The world's richest man might seem to have it all, but Bill Gates has one regret. The
self-made billionaire said he felt stupid for not knowing any foreign languages.
Speaking in his third Ask Me Anything question-and-answer session for online forum
Reddit(红迪网), the Microsoft founder said that he wished he spoke French, Arabic or Chinese.
He said, "I took Latin and Greek in high school and got As and I guess it helps my vocabulary.
I keep hoping to get time to study one of these—probably French because it is the easiest. I did
Duolingo for a while but didn't keep it up."
Gates, who is worth $79.3 billion, praised Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg for surprising an
audience in Beijing when he spoke fluent Chinese. "Mark Zuckerberg amazingly learned Chinese
and did a Q & A with Chinese students—unbelievable, isn't it?" he said.
This isn't the first time for Gates to admit his regret over language. He also showed his habits at
home and personal insights.
Last February, Gates said he likes to do the dishes himself—to his own special standards every
night and also told the interviewer that his wife, Melinda, would likely want Samuel L. Jackson to
play her husband in a biopic(传记片).
He also admitted that he would pick up a $100 bill if he found it on the street.
As he took the top spot on Forbes(福布斯) 28th Annual Billionaires list last year for the fourth
time, he said he is pretty basic when it comes to spending on clothes and food, but that he enjoys
investing in shoes and rackets(球拍) when he plays tennis.
When asked a life lesson he had to learn the hard way, the billionaire said staying up too late is
a habit he is still trying to break. "Don't stay up too late even if the book is really exciting. You will
regret it in the morning. Pam is still working on this problem," he said.

These are difficult questions to answer.36.But if you want to write a short story, here are several tips

started.
39.After you write your first draft, you need to start cutting, rewriting and editing your short
story. This is the hardest part of writing a short story. However, don't give up. You're almost there. Before you submit (提交)your short story, make sure you have read it aloud several times to
find any errors. Then skim some literary(文学的)magazines and read their guidelines to know if
your short story will be a good fit. 40.It will be hard to let go of your short story, but you can not get
it published if you don't submit it.

Dear Editor,
I’m the only daughter of my parents. So they worried about everything I do. For example, when
I ride my bike, my parents won’t let me ride by myself. They are afraid of I might fall off my bike
and hurt myself. Instead, they are taking great trouble to support a bike, with my mother even
carrying a first-aid box. I’m not free to ride and I often say angry, “Why not let me ride alone?”
Now, most family have one child. Parents want to do everything for his children. This does no good
on them. Too much love from parents may prevent children from become independent. In my
opinion, parents should let their children do that they should do alone.
Yours,
Alice

Nowadays mobile phones are becoming more and more popular among the middle school students.
In my opinion, we can bring mobile phones to school.
As we know, the 21st century is a modern age and full of information. A mobile phone is one of
the quickest tools for us to exchange information. The mobile phone is a fashionable and useful invention, so we ought to make the best use of it. Suppose there’s a sudden accident, it is more
convenient for us to dial for help immediately. There’re also some games in the mobile phone. We
can relax ourselves by playing them when we’re tired of our studies. In my opinion, it’s not wrong to
follow the fashion, but the most important thing is how to use the mobile phone in a right way.
