It was a mid-winter's day. My Mom had ordered me and my two brothers outside so she could get a little housework
done.
My brothers were seven and five years older than me and much bigger as well. Still, it was I who decided to start the
3
snowball fight. I hit one of them when they weren't looking and soon we were all making and throwing snowballs as fast
as we could. Being little helped me avoid the first dozen or so snowballs that came my way until the one that caught me
in the back of the head and sent me sliding into the two foot deep snowdrift. I felt two hands grasp my shoulders as my
oldest brother lifted me out safely. I laughed as I dusted the snow off.
Later Mom called us back inside for a lunch of hot, chicken soup. I drank it slowly and then sat near the old, wood
stove in our living room and let the warmth quickly dry my damp socks and jeans. It felt so nice. I couldn't describe the
feeling back then but I know now that it was pure happiness.
In those innocent days of childhood there was no regret for the past or worry for the future. Each moment could be
enjoyed just the way God intended. Each day could be filled with fun, laughter, and love. I think that we all need to re-
experience that feeling in our lives. We need to live with childlike joy while keeping our adult wisdom. We need to throw
a few snowballs and drink a few bowls of soup afterwards. We need to trust in our Heavenly Father's love for us and share
our love with others as well. Life here is too brief not to enjoy all of its precious moments.
21. Why did the writer’s mother order them outside?
A. For the convenience of doing housework.
B. To let them do more outdoor exercises.
C. To let them help her do housework outside.
D. To give them a surprise when they returned.
22. Why could the writer avoid so many snowballs?
A. Because he was the youngest.
B. Because his figure was small.
C. Because he had quick reaction.
D. Because he was good at avoiding.
23. What is the writer’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce a good outdoor exercise.
B. To recall an experience in his childhood.
C. To show life should be enjoyed to the fullest.
D. To sing high praises of his mother’s greatness.
B
Since the mid 1950s,life expectancy around the world has increased greatly, and many scientists believe that this
trend is likely to continue in the future.
The United Nations figured that in the early 1950s the world life expectancy rate was 46.4 years. By 1998,world
life expectancy had increased to 63 years. In more developed regions, life expectancy was an average of 75 and in less
developed areas it was 62 years.
The main reason for the increase during this period was the decrease in infant death rate. This was mainly because
of improved health care and better food production.
Most experts believe that people will continue to live longer in the future because of medical advances. Researchers
predict that at least half of the North American and Japanese babies born since the year 2000 will live to an age of 90.
Besides, new drugs are being developed which will slow down the ageing process.
If the present older populations in many countries become healthier, wealthier and live longer, the trend will have
important results for people and governments. The cost of medical care for older people will rise, and governments will
have to start thinking hard about how to provide money for state pensions (养老金) for older citizens. Some people will
want to keep on working later in their life, which could lead to changes in the age of retirement.Others would prefer to
retire early to enjoy having more time for themselves. This will create business opportunities for companies in the leisure
(休闲) and entertainment industries and open up new sections of the market.
4
Finally, the effect on the world population will be great. Europe’s population has been on the decrease for several
years now as people prefer to have fewer children and families tend to be smaller. However, the population won’t decrease
as fast once these anti- ageing drugs start to become widely available. It’s believed that the populations in China and India
could rise by 500 million. An expert on population,Professor Shripad Tuljapurkar, says that “We could expect to see the
world’s population top out at about 11 to 12 billion.”
24.What do the figures in Paragraph 2 suggest?
A.The global economy has developed fast.
B.The world population has greatly increased.
C.There has been a sharp rise in life expectancy.
D.Ageing has become a problem for many countries.
25.Why are people living longer?
A.People are becoming wealthier.
B.Many babies have been born since 2000.
C.The environment has been greatly improved.
D.There have been great medical advances.
26.If the present older populations live longer, .
A.many countries will face a rise in unemployment
B.the younger populations will face much stress
C.people will have to work hard for their pensions.
D.there will be new opportunities for business
27.According to Professor Shripad Tuljapurkar, .
A.the world is expecting a large population increase B.families in Europe tend to have no children
C.China and India should control population growth D.Europe’s population will grow rapidly
C
Most people think about donating blood. However, very few actually do it. According to experts, though almost 50%
of the US population can be counted as potential blood donors, less than 10% ever give. What’s worse is that even the
most consistent ones donate an average of just three to four times during their lifetime. The situation is similar worldwide.
Now officials in Sweden are trying to change the situation with the help of modern technology.
The encouragement to donate again begins shortly after the donor leaves the hospital when he or she receives a “thank
you” text. Though that certainly helps them feel appreciated, what is even more satisfying is the text they receive each
time their blood is used to help someone in need.
Karolina Blom Wiberg, the communications manager at the Stockholm blood service, believes that this small gesture
not only results in repeat donors, but also helps bring in new ones. The creative program that was carried out in Stockholm
three years ago has received such positive feedback (反馈) that it is now being rolled out across the country.
However,Swedish officials are not stopping there. They are also encouraging local hospitals to show the exact levels
of the different blood groups they have in store at any given time on their websites. This allows potential donors to realize
that their blood can make a difference in saving someone’s life.
While all these programs are great, busy people, even the ones with the best intentions have to be occasionally
reminded. In order to jog their memories officials send them text,Facebook, and e-mail reminders. Though that may
sound disturbing, people do not seem to mind given that the messages are light-hearted and fun—things like “We won’t
give up until you give your blood.”
Though Sweden is now the only country using modern technology to encourage more donations, don’t be surprised
if more join in,especially if the Nordic country’s blood banks start to overflow!
28. The information shown on the websites of local hospitals aims to .
5
A.help donors know if their blood is used B.encourage more people to donate blood
C.get rid of the worries of potential donors D.let donors know how much blood is in store
29.According to Paragraph 5,busy people in Sweden .
A.prefer text to e-mail reminders B. have no interest in the messages
C.find the messages rather boring D. can accept those fun messages
30.What’s the author’s attitude towards Sweden’s measures?

第二节 概要写作(满分 25 分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇 60 词左右的内容概要。
These days our society develops rapidly and forces people to rush. It appears that people have got used to being in a
hurry. However, it’s better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower pace than to hurry to get things done.
The main reason that convinces us to oppose doing work in a hurry is the possibility of doing wrongs in a rush. When
people do their jobs or take action in a hurry, they can’t make a sound decision and probably regret later. As the saying
goes, ‘Haste makes waste.’ We should think carefully before making a decision and do our work less quickly. We should
not make mistakes by doing work hurriedly.
Slowing down the pace of life helps people enjoy their life better. For example, taking a train to some place certainly
will take more time than taking a plane. However, taking a train makes people have enough time to get to know a lot of
new friends. Besides, it allows people to fully enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. On the contrary, being in a hurry
will make us lose chances of enjoying our lives.
Finally, slower life pace provides better health conditions for us. As is known to all, taking action in a hurry bothers
people and raises their stress. People think if they are not in a hurry, they will become a loser and that annoys them. But
being in a hurry can hurt people both physically and mentally. According to some studies, people who have a slower pace
suffer fewer diseases, tend to be happier and live much longer than those whose life is tense, even if the former finish jobs
9
more slowly than the latter. [来源:Z]
In short, working quickly will bring about more material benefits to make our society more advanced. Yet, much stress
can’t bring enjoyment, friends and health, which are much more important than money and other material advantages.
Therefore, take your time and live your life at a slower pace.

Finally, the effect on the world population will be great. Europe’s population has been on the decrease for several
years now as people prefer to have fewer children and families tend to be smaller. However, the population won’t
decrease as fast once these anti- ageing drugs start to become widely available. It’s believed that the populations in China
and India could rise by 500 million. An expert on population,Professor Shripad Tuljapurkar, says that “We could expect
to see the world’s population top out at about 11 to 12 billion.”
B.Many babies have been born since 2000.C.The environment has been greatly improved.
24.推理判断题。由第一段 life expectancy around the world has increased greatly, and many scientists believe that this
trend is likely to continue in the future.可知,人类的寿命有了很大的增长,第二段的这些数字都是具体的例子,用
来说明第一段的现象,故选 C。
25. 推理判断题。由第三段 This was mainly because of improved health care and better food production.和第四段
Besides, new drugs are being developed which will slow down the ageing process 可知应选 D。
26. 细节理解题。由倒数第二段 This will create business opportunities for companies in the leisure (休闲) and
entertainment industries and open up new sections of the market.可知,应选 D。“寿命增长将为休闲娱乐行业提供机
会”.

Most people think about donating blood. However, very few actually do it. According to experts, though almost
50% of the US population can be counted as potential blood donors, less than 10% ever give. What’s worse is that even
the most consistent ones donate an average of just three to four times during their lifetime. The situation is similar
worldwide. Now officials in Sweden are trying to change the situation with the help of modern technology.
The encouragement to donate again begins shortly after the donor leaves the hospital when he or she receives a
“thank you” text. Though that certainly helps them feel appreciated, what is even more satisfying is the text they receive
each time their blood is used to help someone in need.
Karolina Blom Wiberg, the communications manager at the Stockholm blood service, believes that this small
gesture not only results in repeat donors, but also helps bring in new ones. The creative program that was carried out in
Stockholm three years ago has received such positive feedback (反馈) that it is now being rolled out across the country.
However,Swedish officials are not stopping there. They are also encouraging local hospitals to show the exact
levels of the different blood groups they have in store at any given time on their websites. This allows potential donors to
realize that their blood can make a difference in saving someone’s life.
A.help donors know if their blood is used B.encourage more people to donate blood
C.get rid of the worries of potential donors D.let donors know how much blood is in store
29.According to Paragraph 5,busy people in Sweden .
A.prefer text to e-mail reminders B. have no interest in the messagesC.find the messages rather boring D. can accept those fun messages
30.What’s the author’s attitude towards Sweden’s measures?
A.Surprised. B.Curious. C.Hopeful. D.Doubtful.
28.细节理解题。由第四段 They are also encouraging local hospitals to show the exact levels of the different blood
groups they have in store at any given time on their websites.可知,此处为题干信息。由后面的 This allows potential
donors to realize that their blood can make a difference in saving someone’s life. 可知答案为 B。
29. 细节理解题。由倒数第二段 Though that may sound disturbing, people do not seem to mind given that the messages
are lighthearted and fun—things like “We won’t give up until you give your blood.” 人们似乎不介意如果信息是
轻松有趣的,象“我们不会放弃,直到你献血为止”这样的话。
30. 推理判断题。由最后一段 don’t be surprised if more join in,especially if the Nordic country’s blood banks start
to overflow!可知,作者充满信心。

第二节 概要写作(满分 25 分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇 60 词左右的内容概要。
These days our society develops rapidly and forces people to rush. It appears that people have got used to being in a
hurry. However, it’s better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower pace than to hurry to get things
done.
On the contrary, being in a
hurry will make us lose chances of enjoying our lives.
Finally, slower life pace provides better health conditions for us. As is known to all, taking action in a hurry bothers
people and raises their stress. People think if they are not in a hurry, they will become a loser and that annoys them. But
being in a hurry can hurt people both physically and mentally. According to some studies, people who have a slower pace
suffer fewer diseases, tend to be happier and live much longer than those whose life is tense, even if the former finishjobs more slowly than the latter. [来源:Z]
In short, working quickly will bring about more material benefits to make our society more advanced. Yet, much
stress can’t bring enjoyment, friends and health, which are much more important than money and other material
advantages. Therefore, take your time and live your life at a slower pace.
One possible version:
Despite being accustomed to the fast pace in modern society, people are recommended to lead a slower life. (要点
一) Firstly, slowing down lowers the possibility of committing errors by comprehensive thinking. (要点二) Secondly,
more opportunities to enjoy life are allowed by a slower pace. (要点三) Lastly, better health condition physically and
mentally is also what a slower life brings. (要点四) Therefore, let’s live a slower life from now on.
