Getting around Venice by travelling along its waterways is a delight for all visitors. Apart from
offering unforgettable views of the architecture, the city's transport options are convenient, efficient,
and also relatively inexpensive.
PASSES
Instead of paying EUR 7 per ride, a better option is to purchase one of ACTV's passes, which
offer unlimited travel for 1 day(EUR 20), 2 days(EUR 30), 3 days (EUR 40) or 1 week(EUR 60).
For children and young people between the ages of 6 and 29, ACTV offers a special "Rolling
Venice" 3-day pass(EUR 29).BY GONDOLA
Considered by many as the most symbolic feature of Venice, today gondolas circulate most
often on canals in the centre of the city, carrying tourists on rides at fixed rates, which tend to be
rather high. A 40-minute ride costs around EUR 100, but may be shared by as many as six
passengers.
BY WATER TAXI
Getting around by water taxi in Venice is most costly, but can be a convenient option when you
are in a hurry or need to carry a lot of luggage. The initial charge is EUR 15 , then EUR 2 per
minute. If you have more than one bag per passenger, there is a charge of EUR 3 for each additional
piece.
BY RENTAL BOAT
It is possible to rent a boat to travel around Venice's canals. A boating permit is not required,
but you will need to pass a basic turning and docking test before being allowed to rent a boat. Rates
start at EUR 30 per hour.
Note: There are only four fuelling stations for boats in Venice. Make sure you note their
locations before heading out.
21. What is said about the ACTV's pass?
A. It provides the tourists with five choices. B. It is very suitable for kids and the young.
C. It should be ordered ahead of time online. D. It is a certificate given to the foreign tourists.
22. Why does the author recommend gondola?
A. Because it is the most economical means. B. Because tourists can enjoy the city for longer.
C. Because tourists will be clear about the cost. D. Because it represents the city of Venice.
23. Which of the following may cost you most?
A. PASSES. C. BY WATER TAXI. B. BY GONDOLA. D. BY RENTAL BOAT.

Serena Williams(Sept. 26,1981)is an American professional tennis player, born in Saginaw,
Michigan. She is the youngest of the five daughters in the family. When the children were young, the
family moved to the city of Compton in Los Angeles, where Williams started playing tennis at the
age of five. She and her sister, Venus, were home-schooled by her father.
Both Serena and Venus showed promise at a very early age, prompting their father Richard to begin making predictions about their future success in the tennis world. Coached by her father,
Serena entered her first tennis tournament at age four and a half. Before reaching their teen years, the
sisters had begun attracting attention far beyond the borders of their home state.
When she was nine, her family moved from Compton to West Palm Beach so that she could
attend the tennis academy of Rick Macci, who would provide additional coaching. Macci spotted the
great talents of the sisters. Despite not always agreeing with Williams' father, he respected that "he
treated his daughters like kids, allowing them to be little girls". When Williams was ten, her father
stopped sending her and her sister to national junior tennis tournaments, since he wanted them to
take it slow and focus on school work. Another reason was that he had heard parents of white
players talk about the sisters in a derogatory manner during tournaments.
In 1995, Richard pulled his daughters out of Macci's academy, and from that point on he took
over all coaching at their home. When asked in 2000 whether having followed the normal path of
playing regularly on the junior circuit would have been beneficial, Williams responded, "Everyone
does different things. I think for Venus and I, we just tried a different road, and it worked for us."
24. What happened in the year of 1986?
A. The family moved to the city of Compton. B. Williams began her tennis career.
C. Richard was offered a job as a coach. D. The Williams began to live a richer life.
25. Why did Rick Macci accept the two sisters?
A. Because he showed much respect for their father.
B. Because he decided to challenge their father.
C. Because the two sisters were gifted in tennis.
D. Because he wanted his tennis academy outstanding.
26. What does the underlined word 'derogatory" mean in the passage?
A. Abnormal. B. Offensive. C. Admirable. D. Positive.
27. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Richard is much better at playing tennis than Macci.
B. The junior circuit would be more suitable for Williams.
C. Williams took her father's training method lightly.

CKitchens are considered one of the most dangerous areas of a home, for children and for
seniors. Many more accidents and falls occur in the kitchen. Keeping the kitchen a safe environment
isn't always easy, but it can be accomplished through a series of steps.
Look at the kitchen with a critical eye and realize that what may seem perfectly harmless to you
may be a potential threat to your elderly father. Watch out for dangerous objects that you take for
granted. This can mean anything from the cookers to the cleaning supplies stored under the sink.
Considering elderly parents, safety is the key issue.
As most caregivers of elderly parents know, it is often very difficult to convince your Mom or
Dad to change their habits. However, stress the importance of safety whenever possible. If your
parent is suffering from a cognitive(认知的)disorder, remind him or her not to place canned goods in
the microwave or be careful with the knives that just don't work. It's up to you to unplug the
microwave and to place the kitchen knives in a secured drawer.
Many caregivers of elderly parents hesitate to make such changes because they are afraid of
hurting feelings. However, when compared to the alternative, it's best to be firm and make safety
priority. Nevertheless, ensuring elderly parents safety in the house, not just the kitchen, is important.
As many elders develop cognitive issues, it may he difficult for him or her to tell between safe and
unsafe.
Ensure that any room in the house, especially the kitchen, has safe access for those using canes
and walkers. It's not an easy task, but with a little planning and a developed course of action, you can
help make the kitchen one of the safest areas of the house, and not the other way around.
28. Why does the author stress the safety in a kitchen?
A. Because elderly parents like to work there. B. Because more accidents occurred there.
C. Because many cookers are dangerous. D. Because the kitchen floor is too smooth.
29. The author doesn't state but imply that .
A. you can take everything for granted
B. you should clean the kitchen as often as possible
C. you should watch out for dangerous objects in the kitchen
D. you should not make the kitchen a mess
30. What does the third paragraph want to tell us?
A. Elderly parents are often very stubborn. B. Most caregivers are too careless.C. Elderly parents should not use microwaves. D. Potential dangers exist in the kitchen.
31. Which of the following statements agrees with the passage?
A. Safety is the key issue. B. It's an easy task to keep safe.
C. Elderly parents are clumsy. D. Elderly parents have access to kitchen.

to carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

from rising temperatures. It said weather disasters are becoming more serious and warned that
without effective action, they could become much worse.
