In 1944, as a young girl, Marta Ramirez saw newsreels that showed B-25 airplanes flying near a
volcanic eruption. Blankets of burning ash were seen smothering the airplanes. Pieces of volcanic rock
came falling quickly from the sky. Each glowing piece of rock was like a deadly bullet. Those images never
left Marta. She has been fascinated by volcanoes ever since. When she got older, Marta earned degrees in
geology and volcanology. She has visited Mount Vesuvius many times. In the following memoir (回忆录),
she describes one of her visits and why this volcano still inspires her work.
There is a lot of documentation of Vesuvius’ past. Geologists have gathered this evidence of earlier
eruptions by studying the rocks that were formed. Before 1944, the most catastrophic eruption occurred in
79 A.D. Many smaller eruptions have occurred since then, including the one in 1944. Volcanologists
believe that another major eruption could occur at any time. To watch for geological changes within
Vesuvius, we have set up seismographs ( 地 震 仪 ) to measure the slightest shifts in the rock beneath the
mountain. During one dangerous but exciting mission, I climbed down into the crater. My crew and I
worked on mapping what was going on underground. We also measured the gases leaking from small vents
(通风口). Any sudden increase in carbon dioxide and other gases might signal an eruption.
I don’t go into the crater anymore, but I often think about how Vesuvius threatens the environment
around it. Today, the city of Naples lies at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. If an eruption occurred tomorrow,
the city would not be ready. The only sure way to protect people who live near this volcano is to give themenough warning. The city of Naples has detailed evacuation (撤离) plans. For the plans to work, however,
officials need to be warned seven days before an eruption occurs. I hope the work that volcanologists do
will help to give people the warning they need. Until then, I’ll be watching this sleeping monster just in
case it starts to wake.
28. What’s the probable meaning of the underlined word “smothering” in paragraph 1?
A. Covering. B. Involving. C. Striking. D. Grasping.
29. What can we infer from paragraph 2?
A. The first recorded eruption happened in 79A.D.
B. The eruption in 1944 was the most destructive.
C. It’s reported that a major eruption will take place soon.
D. Studying past eruptions helps predict the next eruption.
30. What’s the passage mainly about?
A. Plenty of volcanic eruptions took place in Mount Vesuvius.
B. The volcanic eruptions in Mount Vesuvius caused great damage.
C. Marta’s childhood fascination led to a lifelong career as a volcanologist.
D. Volcanologists are doing whatever they can to prevent volcanic eruptions.

It’s party season and many of us will be dancing, eating and drinking too much. After a night of singing
to catchy tunes from the charts, many of us will wake up with the music playing over and over in our heads.
31 A survey in Britain suggests that the Spice Girls’ debut hit, Wannabe, is the catchiest UK hit
single. The data from more than 12,000 participants was collected via an online interactive game called
Hooked on Music. 32 Participants were able to recognize the song Wannabe in 2.3 seconds. The
average for other popular hits was five seconds. This particular song spent seven weeks at number one in
1996. Since then, it’s found its way into people’s memories.
The Hooked on Music idea came from Ashley Burgoyne from the University of Amsterdam in the
Netherlands. He said, “You may only hear something a couple of times yet 10 years later you immediately
realize that you’ve heard it before. 33 ”
And what’s the secret of a catchy tune? 34 Dr. Burgoyne and his team want to identify whether
the most memorable pieces of music shared particular characteristics. It’ll allow them to understand how
the musical memory works and help research on dementia( 痴 呆 ). He said, “There’s already been some
research that shows that if you can find the right piece of music, something that had a very strong meaning,
playing that piece of music can be very therapeutic (治疗的). 35 ”
The other most recognizable tunes in Dr. Burgoyne’s study are Lou Bega’s Mambo No 5, Survivor’s
Eye of the Tiger, Lady Gaga’s Just Dance and ABBA’s SOS.
A. Is it the lyrics or the chorus(副歌)?
B. Some songs will never go away.
C. Why don’t you like a certain piece of music?
D. It’s such a popular game that many people love to play it.

With the development of our society, cellphones have become a common part in our lives. Have you
ever run into a careless cellphone user on the street? Maybe they were busy talking, texting or checking
updates on WeChat without looking at what looking at what was going on around them. As the number of
this new “species” of humans keeps rising, they have been given a new name-phubbers.
Recently a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of
people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities (身份) bury themselves
in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes a
selfie (自拍) in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using
his mobile phone. A chain of similar events finally leads to the destruction of the world.
Although the ending of the film sounds unrealistic, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health
is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Always bending your head to check your cell phone could
damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors’ words. “The neck is like a rope that breaks after
long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for a long time will damage your eyesight gradually,
according to the report.
But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your
friends and family. When getting together with family or friends, many people prefer to play their cell
phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu
Evening News reported.
It can also cost your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered
accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.《浙江省新高考研究卷》英语参考答案

第四部分:写作
第一节:应用文写作
Dear manager,
I’m writing to complain about the poor service your hotel provided. After my family checked in on
August 5th, we were annoyed to find there was no access to the Internet and no hot water available after 10
p.m. Worse still, the room attendant was rude when we reported these problems to him.
I know your hotel enjoys a high reputation, but it was disappointing that your hotel didn’t offer high-
quality service. I think it’s necessary to improve the room service and get your employees well trained so
that it won’t fail other customers.
第二节: 概要写作
Yours,
Li Hua
The advancement/development of modern society leads to a rising group of phubbers, who are
addicted to the cellphones. A recent cartoon film brings them to public attention. Absurd/Unrealistic
though the ending of the film may seem, being absorbed in cellphones does ruin your health like your neck
and eyesight. Besides, your social skills will be weakened too, distancing you from your friends and family.
Worse still, being a phubber may put your own life at risk.

W: Good morning, Mr. Johnson. I want to talk to you about Carl’s report card.
(Text 2)
M: Excuse me. Could you tell me where the Big Theater is, please?
W: Sure, just walk down the road, take the first turning at the barber's shop and you will see a post
office on the right. Walk ten minutes and you will see the theater.
(Text 3)
M: Has Tina come back from London?
W: Oh, she has moved there with her parents, who have found new jobs. Now she’s studying in a new
school.
M: No wonder I haven't seen her for ages.
(Text 4)
W: This is delicious. You’re a true artist! How did you cook it? I’ve never been able to
eat something like this.M: I spent three years in France as a young boy. I learned a lot of amazing techniques
there. (Text 5)M: How much are the tickets for one adult and two three-year-old children?
W: Well, for adults, five dollars per ticket, and for children under four years old, one dollar
each.
(Text 6)
M: Lily, there is a big art exhibition in town tomorrow. Do you want to go with me?
W: (6) How would I miss an art exhibition? I just love art. But where exactly will it be held?
M: In the art gallery owned by a Mr. Brown. It's in the south of the city. I heard some very famous paintings
from around the world will be shown there.
W: I just can't wait to go. My car is being repaired now. I'm afraid we’ll have to take a bus or the subway.
M: I hate traveling by public transport. (7) I’ll ask David to drop us there.
(Text 7)
M: Fairly warm this morning, isn’t it?
W: Sure. (8) The air is so warm and everything looks so fresh after the heavy rain during
the night.
M: A very gentle wind and a shining sun. What a lovely day!
W: So, how about a walk in the park?
M: Wonderful idea! Oh, look, there are some black clouds.
W: That's the sign of rain.
M: Yeah. The farmers suffer a lot. Last winter, there was a heavy snow. There was no rain at all during the
spring. (9) This summer is too rainy.
W: Oh, look at the thick clouds. I think it’s going to rain again.
M: (10) Let's go home now.
W: OK, I hope it will clear up
soon. (Text 8)
W: Welcome to Hong Kong, Stephen! What would you like to do while you are here?
M: Thanks. Well, I enjoy science. I would like to go to the Science Museum first. I’ve never been to one
before. (11) I’d like to see what experiments I can try.
W: Good plan. Oh, would you like to go to Ocean Park?
M: That sounds exciting. However, (12) I do go to Ocean Park we have at home a lot. I guess they will
be pretty similar. Oh, can we go to Temple Street Night Market? I’ve never been to a night market.
W: If you like. We go there every Christmas and buy silly gifts.
M: One more thing, (13) can we take the Star Ferry?
W: OK, if you insist. I take that every day to get to
school. (Text 9)
M: This is quite a nice pool, isn’t it?
W: I'll say. Is this your first time in this hotel?
M: Oh, no. I stay here every time I'm in New York on business. What about you?
W: (15) This is my first time here without my family. I decided that I just wanted some
time for myself this weekend.
M: Good for you! (14) My name is Bernard Smith, but you can call me Bernie.
W: (14) Hi, Bernie! I'm Jane.M: Nice to meet you. So, Jane, what do you think is the best part of this hotel? I mean, seeing as you’re a
bit of an expert and all...W: Well, I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but the service here is much better than at most other hotels. (16)
Considering the price of the rooms here, you might not expect the service to be anything special,
but I feel like I am treated like a queen whenever I'm here.
M: I agree that the service is great, (17) but my favorite thing about this place has got to be the
breakfast. I mean, have you seen so many choices anywhere else?
W: Well, you have a point there, Bernie. I do love eating breakfast here, and I guess I’ll talk about it
whenever people ask me how my trip to New York was.
(Text 10)
M: We at the Countryside Club love the outdoors and we want young people to love it, too. That’s why,
once again, we are holding a writing competition. Last year, we asked children to write about their
favorite animal from the British countryside. This year, the subject is different. (18) We want you to
write about your favorite place in Britain. It could be a beach, a forest, a park or a mountain. But
it must be outdoors. You can't write about your bedroom! (19) So, if you're between the ages of
eight and fifteen, start writing! Last year, you had to be less than 12 years old, but we decided to
change it this year. You must write between 200 and 400 words. The best ones will appear in our
Countryside magazine. The winners will also get a free family ticket to London Zoo. If you want to
enter, please send your entry to 25 Black Street, Portland-that’s 25 Black Street, Portland. Your entry
must arrive before the 14th October. We look forward to reading your entries!
