BIt is a fact that people die every moment of every day. However, the deaths of
those who have done great work in the public realm (领域) can be especially shocking
and heartbreaking---even to those of us who don't know them personally.
On Jan 26, Kobe Bryant(科比·布莱恩特), one of the most legendary NBA
players in history, died in a terrible accident. He was 41 years old when a helicopter he
was riding in crashed, killing him and eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter
Gianna Bryant.
Following Bryant's death, people from all walks of life have paid tribute (敬意) to
the late basketball superstar --- not just for his achievements on the court (球场), but
also for his personality and the inspiration he has given to us.
In the basketball world, Bryant ranks (排名) among the top players of all time. He
entered the NBA directly from high school as a basketball prodigy (神童). He played
his whole 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers and helped the team win five
NBA championships. He was fast, skillful and aggressive, which earned him the
nickname Black Mamba, one of the most deadly snakes in the world. That's why his
competitive philosophy is known as the "Mamba Mentality".
"Mamba mentality is you're going, you're competing, you're not worried about the
end result," Bryant said. "It's all about focusing on the process and trusting in the hard
work when it matters most."
Off the court, Bryant was known as a successful businessman, an Oscar-winning
filmmaker, and a proud father of four daughters.
The fact that Bryant is no longer with us is sad. We'll never see him give another
interview or play in another game. But the work he has done will keep inspiring us
years after his death.

As Internet users become more dependent ( 依 赖 ) on the Internet to store
information, are people remember less? If you know your computer will save
information, why store(储存) it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts are
wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.
In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and
her research team wanted to know the Internet is changing memory. In the first
experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first
group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second
group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group
remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the
information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told
them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific
computer folder (文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location (位
置 ) better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the
information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory
(交互记忆)”
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories;
that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they
are able to access(访问) it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either
more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
63. The passage begins with two questions to ________.
A.introduce the main topic B.show the author’s attitude
C.describe how to use the Internet D.explain how to store information
64.What can we learn about the first experiment?
A.Sparrow’s team typed the information into a computer.
B.The two groups remembered the information equally well.
C.The first group did not try to remember the formation.
D.The second group did not understand the information.
65.In transactive memory, people ________.
A.keep the information in mind
B.change the quantity of information
C.organize information like a computer
D.remember how to find the information
66.What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow's research?
A.We are using memory differently.
B.We are becoming more intelligent.
C.We have poorer memories than before.
D.We need a better way to access information.
D
While there are still many people who don’t feel comfortable using a credit card
(信用卡)to buy over the Internet, e-commerce(电子商务) is absolutely here to
stay. If you take a few precautions(预防措施), buying over the Internet can actually
be safer than using your credit card in a restaurant.
Just as you should notice your surroundings(环境)and suspicious-looking(可疑
的) people when withdrawing (提取) money from an ATM, you should know how to recognize the warning signs of Internet tricks and take steps to avoid being a victim (受
害 者 ) when shopping online. Here are some good tips to remember when shopping
online:
Before submitting(提交) your personal information to a site, try to find out how
the information may be used and whether it will be sold to or shared with other
businesses. If you don’t like what you read, shop somewhere else.
Don’t provide personal information such as address, telephone number, social
security number(社保号), or e-mail address unless you know who you are providing
the information for, why it’s being requested, and how it will be used.
Use a credit card, not a debit card (借记卡) for shopping on the Internet. Debit
cards don’t have the same protection as credit cards.
Carefully review your credit card and bank statement each month for unknown
charges(未知费用) and tell your credit card company or bank immediately if you
notice any charges you didn’t know about.
Clean your computer with free online software that detects (侦察)spy-ware (间
谍软件) and install (安装) a firewall to ensure the sites you shop on don’t install
spy-ware on your computer.
67.While shopping online, you should ______.

B.only shop on the site that you have often visited
C.find out how the personal information will be used
D.never provide personal information

should______.

B.change your credit card code number(密码)immediately
C.check all the websites you have visited
D.use a debit card instead of a credit card
69.What is NOT advised by the writer when shopping online?A.Using debit cards. B.Visiting famous websites.

Kids and food: advice for parents
It is important for parents to know how to help their kids eat healthily. Here are a
few easy ways. Parents control the supply lines.

help kids listen to their own bodies when they are full. When kids feel full, they're likely
to overeat.

Likes and dislikes begin forming even when kids are babies. Parents may need to serve
a new food on several different occasions for a child to accept it.
Food is not love.
Find better ways to say I love you. When foods are used to reward kids and show
love. They
may start to turn to food when feeling worried or unhappy. 74

Dear Saipan,
How are you doing? I’m sorry to hear that you’re not in a good state of learning.
Here are some tips that may bring you back to a better condition. First, spend
fifteen minutes doing your favourite activity, such as listening to music, reading story
books, which will help you release tension. Second, carry a pen and paper with you
when you’re on the go. Write down at least one thing that will make you feel proud of.
Whenever you feel down, you can take a look at those notes to make yourself feel better
and to gain confidence from it. Third, stop the negative thinking and focus on solving
those problems. Instead of being so negative towards our life, why don’t we live happily
and spend our time on something constructive?
I hope these suggestions will help you. Take good care and I am looking forward to
hearing from you again.
Yours,
Li Hua
