Picture a young Chinese woman in a field, dressed in traditional clothing, as she picks flowers to
create makeup for her cheeks. Imagine the same person making a bamboo sofa, cooking soy sauce
from scratch and cooking up all sorts of delicious dishes.
It may sound hard to believe, but such a person exists in modern China, and her name is Li Ziqi.
On Dec 14, 2019 she won Person of the Year in the category of cultural influence awarded by China
Newsweek.
With a fan base of more than 21 million people on Sina Weibo and 7 million followers on
video-sharing site YouTube, Li has made a name for herself in a series of videos that show a
pre-industrial Chinese way of life in rural Sichuan province. "I want to do my part to let more people

particular climate.

China Central Television noted. The success of Li Zigi also comes from her "passion for life, for her
home and for her culture".
Indeed, Li's simple pleasures amaze people living in the hustle and bustle of big cities.

Breakdancing is close to becoming an Olympic sport after the organizers of the 2024 Paris
Olympics announced on Thursday that they will propose four additional sports, including newcomer
breakdancing and the other three sports-surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing-to the Games in
2024.
"Breakdancing is a fantastic opportunity to be really in line with the story that Paris 2024wants to
tell. We want those Games in connection with creativity, connected with the youth, more urban,
more out of the stadiums. We look forward to working with breakdancing to propose a new
experience." Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet told Xinhua.
Breakdancing is a sport which can be played anytime and anywhere in urban and other
environments. It has no previous appearance at the Summer Olympic Games, but was included at the
Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018.
"Right from the beginning, our aim was to offer Games that would have an impact and the
element of surprise. This is why we have chosen to present the IOC (International Olympic
Committee) with four sports that are as creative, appealing to the youth and in line with our vision.
We are certain that breakdancing, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing will contribute to
strengthen our project," Estanguet added.
The organizers seek to deliver three key principles in hosting the Games: sustainable and
socially-responsible Games in accordance with the 10C's New Norm (规则), Games in keeping with
the times and inspire new audiences and attract young people, and Games reflecting the identity of
Paris 2024, which is spectacular, culturally relevant, engaging, accessible and inclusive.
Under the new IOC rules, Olympic host cities can select sports and propose them for inclusion in
those Games if they are popular in that country and add to the Games appeal. The inclusion still
needs to be pubberstamped by the IOC which is expected to make the final decision after the
2020Tokyo Olympics

D. Because they will help attract young people.

Few people can resist the lure (诱惑) of a delicious ice cream, especially on a hot day. The only
thing that spoils the fun is that the treat is hard to enjoy slowly often ending up with a sticky, melted
mess. Now, researchers from Colombia's Pontificia Bolivariana University may have found an
unlikely partner to help solve this age-old problem- cellulose fiber (纤维素) extracted from banana
plant waste.
Bananas, as you probably know, grow in bunches on a tree-like plant. Each bunch is attached to
a central stalk, called a rahis (叶轴),which is thrown once the fruit has been harvested. The team,
led by Dr. Rotin Zuluaga Gallego, began by extracting cellulose nanofibrils (CNs) from powdered
rachis. The tasteless, odorless macro fibers, thousands of times smaller than the width of a human
hair, were then added in various concentrations to 100 grams of ice cream mix.
With the right amount of CNFs mixed in, the dessert lasted longer in its frozen state than
conventional ice cream, extending both its shelf life and the amount of time the treat can be enjoyed.
Even more exciting was that the fibers increased the stickiness of low-fat ice cream to levels higher
than the full-fat one. Since this is what determines the frozen treat's creaminess and texture, CNFs
could help create healthier ice cream without compromising on taste.
The researchers, who presented their findings at the American Chemical Society (ACS) meeting
in New Orleans on March 21, 2018, next plan to investigate how different types of fat, such as
coconut oil, affect the behavior of CNFs in other frozen treats.
The Colombian researchers are not the only one working on creating a slower-melting ice cream.
In 2015, scientists at the University of Dundee in Scotland found that a naturally occurring protein
called BSIA (Bacterial Surface Layer A) was remarkably effective in keeping the treat frozen for
longer periods of time. With both teams competing to be the first to get to market, the future of
everyone's favorite dessert certainly looks promising
32. What prevents people enjoying an ice cream slowly?
A. A kind of fiber from banana. B. The ice cream's stickiness.
C. The hot weather. D. The ice cream's quick melting.
33. Why were CNFs added to ice cream mix?
A. To improve is flavor. B. To reduce its fat content.
C. To make it melt more slowly. D. To add to its nutrition.
34. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Ice cream with BsIA has been on sale at the market.
B. Slowly enjoying an ice cream will soon become a reality.
C. CNFs are more useful and effective than BslA.
D. The Colombian research team has taken the lead in the competition with the Scottish team.
35. What's the author's attitude towards the finding of CNFs?
A. Positive. B. Casual. C. Defensive D. Suspicious.

Dear Peter,
How is everything going? On behalf of our classmates, I am writing to express our deepest
gratitude and concern for you and also keep you informed of our English learning situation.
During the COVID-19 epidemic, not only do we watch online English classes to review and
consolidate what we have learned, but we also spare some time to practise spoken English through
online applications since the oral English test is drawing near. To our delight, we find that this kind
of drilling does contribute to our language fluency. However, it seems that our pronunciation doesn’t
get much improved because we could not tell whether we speak accurately and we are wondering
how to solve this problem.
We would really appreciate it if you could give us your constructive suggestions. Please take
care of yourself and we are all looking forward to meeting you soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
二 评分细则
(一)文章包括四个部分:

2. 感谢并表达对他的关心;
3. 介绍你们学习英语的情况和困难;

了一些写得好但书写不太出众的作文;
9.字数太多, 如增加了与要点关联度不大的无效内容;或者词数太少,只是简单表
达了要点,则酌情扣分。
