On June 9, 2015, Mark Joseph Peredo was riding high on his way home from landing an
important client for his marketing business, but he never made it back to celebrate with his family.
Instead, a car traveling on the opposite side of the highway crossed over, and crashed into Mark's
car. Doctors later told Mark that his foot had been shattered ( 粉 碎). The surgeries left him unable
to walk normally for a year, and Mark was forced to abandon his plans to be a successful business
owner.
Little did Mark know that Luke Hutchins, the driver of the other car, was suffering, too. The
reason he had lost control of his vehicle was that he had an epileptic fit ( 癫痫发作) — his first, but
not his last. Mark knew none of this. Instead, he was still furious with Luke, who had cost him his
career. After his foot had mostly recovered, Mark decided to walk the 500-mile Camino de Santiago,
a rough path that begins in France, continues through the Pyrenees Mountains, and ends in Spain.
One year later, Mark finished his trip and was still curious about the accident, so he decided to
do one more thing: Meet Luke. The two were nervous about speaking to each other, but once Mark
learned that Luke was not at fault for the incident and that he had been similarly struggling to
recover, Mark knew that Luke needed to walk the Camino de Santiago too — and they needed to do
it together.
In 2017, Mark and Luke embarked on ( 开 始) their trip, which was hard on Luke at first. As
time progressed, Luke became stronger both physically and mentally. During their 40-day trip, the
two men kept encouraging each other and had many heart-to-heart talks. And they came to realize
that unless you let go of the past, you cannot move forward.
24. What happened to Mark on June 9, 2015?
A. He lost his way home in the dark.
B. He gave up his marketing business.
C. He was badly hurt in a car accident.
D. He failed to meet an important client.
25. What does the underlined word “furious” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

26. Why did Mark decide to meet Luke?
A. To make an apology.
B. To find out the truth.
C. To tell Luke about his trip.
D. To cure Luke of his epilepsy.
27. What can we learn from Mark's story?
A. One can never be too careful.
B. It is good to have friends in trouble.
C. Learn to forgive and live a better life.
D. Be generous and you'll be successful.

Executives ( 管 理 人 员) can read about the principles of good leadership and team building.
They can attend conferences or hire coaches. But spending an hour watching a horse whisperer ( 马
语者) bond with and gain the cooperation of a wild, 1, 000-pound horse can bring home important
leadership lessons in an immediate way.
Horses are acutely sensitive to human energy and body language, making them the perfect
partners in real-time exercises involving trust and cooperation. “It's an amazing experience,” said
Cece Morken, an executive vice president at Intuit. Morken is one of hundreds of executives every
year who have attended leadership demonstrations and training sessions by horse whisperer Grant
Golliher and his wife, Jane, who run the Diamond Cross Ranch (牧场) near Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
The couple has worked with leadership groups from up to 200 organizations, including
well-known public companies such as Google, Disney and Toyota, as well as private businesses and
government agencies. Their ranch has been in Jane's family since the 1940s. But the idea for the
leadership demonstrations and training wasn't born until two decades ago, after the couple received a
lot of positive responses from a private event that they held for 300 people from Microsoft.
Companies today bring executives to the ranch to learn how Grant Golliher builds a relationship
with a horse through a display of respect, patience and non-violent boundary-setting. The philosophy
that informs his actions relies heavily on emotional intelligence to communicate and inspire, and that
can apply when leading employees too.
Michael Beckerman, CEO of commercial real estate research company CREtech, watched
Grant work with a horse that had been living in the wild just two weeks earlier. When approaching
the horse, as seen in a video Beckerman took, Grant stressed to executives in the audience that
horses need freedom. “I saw real fear, real danger and real potential for consequences,” Beckerman
said. “Grant showed the power of love and kindness, of trust and establishing boundaries. The
experience made me realize the disadvantages of anger and aggression.”
28. Why do executives come to visit a horse whisperer?
A. To hire a coach.
B. To build a bond with horses.
C. To learn how to be a wise leader.
D. To seek opportunities for cooperation.
29. What can be learned about the Diamond Cross Ranch?
A. It was passed down from Jane's family.
B. It has a history of over a hundred years.
C. It has attracted executives since the 1940s.
D. It began the leadership training due to Disney.
30. What might be Beckerman's attitude to Grant's demonstration?
A. He was in favor of it.
B. He was strongly against it.
C. He was uncertain about it.
D. He was dissatisfied with it.
31. What would be the best title for the text?
A. An unusual way to train a wild horse
B. A new form of recreation for executives
C. The new challenges of running a ranch
D. The inspiration from a horse whisperer
D
A new study suggests a link between being exposed to greenery and reduced desires for
alcohol, cigarettes and junk food. It is the first work to look into the possible relationships between
exposure to nature, desires and negative emotions. Researchers studied 149 respondents aged 21 to
65 about the green spaces in their neighborhood, the presence of green views from their home, their
access to a garden and how often they used public green spaces.
Researchers found that the presence of visible green spaces contributed to decreased desires.
The effect was particularly noticeable when more than 25 percent of a respondent's view was
greenery.
Previous scholarship has dealt mostly with exercise in nature: A 2015 study found that
90-minute group nature walks were effective at fighting against depression and other mood
disorders. But for people who struggle with accessibility or don't have time for a 90-minute walk,
this new study suggests just looking out of a window at a tree can help fight off a bad habit. It could
influence public health programs and encourage planning for access to green spaces.
“It has been known for some time that being outdoors in nature is linked to a person's
well-being,” lead author Leanne Martin said in a statement. “But simply being able to see green
spaces to produce a similar association with desires adds a new dimension to previous research.” Dr.
Sabine Pahl, a professor of psychology at the University of Plymouth, calls Martin's work “a
promising first step.”
Martin's work is part of a growing field of study known as ecotherapy ( 生 态 疗 法), which,
according to the National Institute of Health (NIH), addresses human health “against the background
of the health of the Earth and its natural ecosystems,” examining how people and nature can interact
to each other's benefit.
A 2018 study from Denmark's Aarhus University, for example, found that having access to
green spaces throughout childhood decreased a person's risk of developing mental health problems
as an adult.
32. What does the new study focus on?
A. What negative emotions mean.
B. How to get access to green spaces.
C. How exposure to nature reduces bad habits.
D. What is the influece of previous studies on greenery.
33. What is the significance of this new study?
A. It has enriched the previous research.
B. It has proved previous research wrong.
C. It has encouraged green urban planning.
D. It has started some new public health programs.
34. How does ecotherapy benefit people?
A. By persuading them to do exercise.
B. By improving their health through nature.
C. By offering them biological examinations.
D. By encouraging them to follow NIH's instructions.
35. Why does the text mention the 2018 study in the last paragraph?
A. To start a different topic.
B. To admire Martin's work.
C. To encourage related studies.
D. To prove ecotherapy is effective.
第二节:(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Should parents educate their children at home?
Some parents are now choosing to educate their children at home. This is often because these
children find it difficult to fit into the school system. Why?36
Of course, there are obvious advantages. Children will be able to realize their potential better if
they can work at their own rate. 37 Problems such as truancy (旷课) and overpressure are common
in some schools, which can be prevented effectively if children learn at home.
38 First of all, children are able to socialize and meet people of different ages. Secondly,
schools can offer a much wider range of subjects than parents can provide on their own. Parents
would need to have a whole range of professional knowledge in science subjects like physics and
chemistry as well as English literature. And then, schools have more resources and equipment than
can be provided at home. 39 Next, it is also questionable whether parents could keep a disciplined
study atmosphere at home because of the friendly family atmosphere.
40 It is fair to assume that home education aids concentration and protection, but it also limits
socializing, professional teaching and availability of resources. There may be particular cases in
which home tutoring would be advantageous, such as for severely disabled children; however, for
the vast majority of children there are greater benefits from going to school.
A. School violence has been decreasing in recent years.
B. However, most parents choose to send children to school.
C. Good teachers are always willing to take the time to reach students.
D. On balance it seems that education at school is preferable to learning at home.
E. Some of them are especially gifted, and the others have problems of some kind.
F. Meanwhile, parents will also be able to protect their children from harmful influences.
G. For example, there are libraries, sports equipment and laboratories for science experiments.

Dear Jack,
I’m glad to hear from you. And now I’m very happy to share something about Chinese tea culture
in replay to your last e-mail.
Chinese tea culture started about 4000 years ago and drinking tea gradually became an amazing
tradition. In China, people drink tea almost everywhere and in most of their spare time. Some
Chinese believe that tea benefits people’s health a lot. Drinking a cup of tea makes people relaxed
and refreshed. Others treat guests or friends to tea drinking in social communication.
Probably, you’ve got a general picture of tea culture after my introduction. Then, how about
coming to China to experience it yourself? Maybe, you will fall in love with it.
Yours,
Li Hua

听力材料:
W: Excuse me, sir. Could you show me the way to the Business Center?
M: Sure. Go straight and turn right at the traffic lights onto Rainbow Street, and then turn left. Go
straight for about five minutes. The Business Center is on your right, next to the bus station.
M: I spoke to James today. He said housing prices in London have gone
through the roof. W: Yeah, I heard. Is James going to buy a house there?
M: Well, only if the bank will lend him some money.
W: Is it really necessary to speak so loudly when I am only a couple
of feet away? M: I’m sorry. I thought you wouldn’t be able to hear
me over the TV.
W: Did you find the book for your reading assignment in the library?
M: It closed before I got there. I had no idea it closed so early on weekends.
W: When was the last time you took out cash
from an ATM? M: Uh, three or four days ago, I
guess.
W: That’s what I thought. Hmm, that’s strange. I thought we had more money in our checking
account. I’ll call
the bank and find out what’s going on.
W: Lance, do you spend a lot of time online?
M: To be honest, no. I usually use my computer to write papers for my classes.(6) I’m not one of
those guys who is always playing online games or surfing the Net. I think many people spend
too much time in front of their computers and not enough time in front of each other!(7)
W: I totally agree with you.

W: I’m exhausted, Harry.
M: I know, but no one has stopped. Cheer up! Someone will give us a ride as long as we
keep trying.(8) W: Can we sit here and wait? I can’t go on.
M: All right. Let’s rest for a minute.
W: Oh, I shouldn’t have come with you on this silly trip.
M: Don’t say that, Laura. We’ve had a lot of fun over the past few days, haven’t we?(9)
W: We did, but now I’m... Hey, here comes another truck... Stop, please!... Oh, he
won’t stop. M: Look! He stopped.
W: Thank God.
M: Let’s get all our stuff together! Hurry!
M: Hey, I heard you’ll be flying to China in two weeks.
W: Yeah, I’m really excited — I’ve never been to Asia before.
M: Did you get a cheap flight? The airlines have raised their prices a lot recently, with the price of oil
going up.
W: Yeah, I managed to get a cheap flight with Finn Air — I booked it a week ago. They started
flying direct to Shanghai recently, but not from London.(10) I’ll have to fly to Helsinki first and
have a 6-hour stopover.(11) Then I’ll have a 9-hour flight to Shanghai.
M: Wow, 6 hours in the airport? No wonder you got a discount. What’ll you do for all that time?
W: Well, I guess I can watch a movie on my laptop, as long as my battery doesn’t run out. I looked
online, and I can have a Finnish meal at a nice café there,(12) and buy some Finnish liquor at
the duty-free store.
M: I had a 5-hour stopover in Moscow once, when I flew back to London from Tokyo.(10) It was
pretty boring. I just wandered around the airport mostly. I couldn’t afford to buy anything
because I was a poor student at the time.(13)
M: Hey, Chloe! How are you?
W: Uh, hey, Jordan. I’m a little surprised you’re even talking to me. You seemed pretty mad at me
last week. M: I know, I’m sorry about that. I was just in a bad mood. I got fired from my job that
day for something that I didn’t even do.(14)
W: Oh, no, I’m sorry to hear that. What happened?
M: I missed work, but I wasn’t even supposed to be there that day. Tammy, the woman who does
the schedules, forgot to tell me that she had changed the schedule last week. I tried to tell my

manager about it, but after Mr. Ainsworth talked to Tammy, he took her side and fired me on
the spot.
W: That’s ridiculous! You should complain to Mr. Ainsworth’s boss!
M: Well, there isn’t much I can do about it. It’s basically my word against Tammy’s, and she has been
there a lot longer than I have. Plus, I think Mr. Ainsworth would do pretty much anything she
asked him to do.(15)
W: How do the other people in the office think of Tammy?
M: I’m not sure, but it’s pretty obvious that she is Mr. Ainsworth’s favorite person in the office.
W: Well, it sounds like you are better off without that job. With your experience and skills, you can
get a good job soon.(16)
The only bear to have been living in the wild in Switzerland, known as M13, was recently shot
dead in the mountains near the Italian border. The brown bear had become dangerous because he
regularly looked for food in busy areas, including a school, and had started following people during
the day. (17)The creature also showed little fear of humans despite several attempts to get it away
from villages. He had been called a “problem bear” back in November, 2012, but he had never
showed any actual aggression toward people before the shooting. Some nature groups said that
wildlife officers should have continued efforts to make him more frightened of humans before
making the decision to shoot him.
On February 18, eight men wearing masks and carrying guns drove two cars through a fence
at Brussels International Airport(18), sped toward a waiting aircraft, and stole $50 million worth of
diamonds(19). The robbery took only three minutes from start to finish. The men wore clothing
that looked like police uniforms, and they appeared to be professionals.
The tiny island of Guam( 关 岛 ) has finally found a way to deal with its snake problem. The
U.S. will take
thousands of dead mice, give them poison, and drop them on the island in an attempt to kill some of
the island’s two million Brown Tree Snakes.(20) The snakes are responsible for killing off the
island ’ s entire native bird population, biting residents, and even knocking out electricity by
climbing onto power lines.
