I’ve recently returned from a trip to China where Starbucks signed two historic Memoranda
of Understanding to invest in growing high-quality coffee in Yunnan province. We’ll be
cooperating with the People’s Government of Pu’er City (Yunnan Province) and the Yunnan
Academy of Agricultural Sciences. These agreements signal cooperation between Starbucks and
China to revolutionize the Chinese coffee market and help local farmers there grow new,
high-quality coffees that are sure to be prized throughout the world.
Although we will continue to buy coffees from many countries, this opportunity allows us to
help build China’s specialty coffee market from scratch. We’ll open another Farmer Support
Center, manage a base farm to grow coffee for production and create a demo farm that offers
training on soil quality, tree planting and pruning, and education about C. A. F. E. Practices. We
will also operate wet and dry mills. Between the agronomists and partners with years of leadership
in the coffee industry, we have the experience necessary to be very successful. I am excited about
the immense opportunity this partnership represents.
But what’s even more rewarding is the opportunity to give back to the farmers in this area.
During my visit, I met with 156 excited farmers who represent the 27 ethnic tribes that live in the
lush, rural area of Yunnan. This is the ideal region with the perfect climate for growing specialty
coffee in China. The area is Pu’er, known for its beauty and also its exquisite teas.
We are looking forward to this historic partnership with the Chinese government and Yunnan
farmers. For us, this will be a market with huge potential for growth. For the farmers, this means
hope for a brighter, more stable business that respects the people and the land of this area.
We are doing something truly special. In just a few short years, we will reinvent the coffee
sector in China and bring an awareness of Yunnan coffee to the rest of the world.

Marco was a typical preschooler. He was a happy, capable child, with great verbal ability. He
spoke in full sentences at an early age, and he knew lots of words, especially words related to cars
and trucks. By the age of two, he knew the difference between a pay loader and a backhoe, and he
was sure to correct anyone who got it wrong. But no matter how hard we tried, he couldn’t learn
the names of the colors or his phone number. And while we spent hours reading together, he just
wasn’t interested in the letters of the alphabet.
We gave him another year in preschool, hoping it would give him a head start, the time he
needed to grow.
At the age of six, Marco started kindergarten. He loved school. He had a lot of friends and he
was happy—but so active. He could never sit still or resist temptation. If he saw a mud puddle, he
was the one who jumped in it. He was the one who’d usually end up sitting in the penalty chair.
And there were so many things he couldn’t do. He couldn’t tie his shoes. He didn’t know the
days of the week or the months of the year. He still couldn’t recite the alphabet. When his sister
was born, he called her “that baby” for weeks. At first I thought it was just a case of sibling rivalry,
but when I asked him the names of the children in his class, he simply didn’t know. There were
just so many contradictions.
His grandfather insisted there was nothing to be concerned about, Marco was just “all boy”.
And then Marco’s kindergarten teacher suggested that he be evaluated because she noticed the
same things I did. I called the principal and asked for an evaluation. I was hoping for guidance,
but what I got was a lecture about parents pushing their children too hard, expecting too much. I
hung up the phone feeling like a bad parent. I didn’t pursue an evaluation, and Marco limped
along through kindergarten. On the last day of school, Marco’s teacher looked at me and let out a
deep sigh. She said, “I hope it works out for Marco next year.”
61. What’s the mother’s feeling of her son?
A. She thought her son was active and lovely.
B. She couldn’t understand her son’s behaviour.

B. Being not able to tie his shoes.

64. Why did mother think she was a bad parent after she made a telephone?
A. She was told to have treated her son badly.
B. She didn’t listen to Marco’s grandfather’s words.
C. She made Marco to stay in preschool for another year.

65. Which of the following can be best used as a title?
A. A mother’s contradiction

The story dates back to 2004 when my father, separated with my mom, rented an old house
that used to be a library. I was 14 but that wasn’t the first encounter that I had with ghosts.
When school was over, we used to take a vacation at my dad’s place with my siblings (同胞)
and my half-siblings. When we first got to the house, we always felt uncomfortable and there was
something odd with the place.
The house was “L” shaped with 8 bed rooms, 4 bathrooms, a big kitchen, and 2 living rooms.
Only 6 bedrooms were occupied by us and the other 2 rooms were usually used to store unused
things.
It was around 9 pm and all of us watched TV in our room. I remember that we turned the
lights on as we watched a movie. My brother was already asleep next to me. I felt sleepy watching
the movie and eventually followed my brother into a deep sleep. I don’t remember the time but I
woke up feeling so cold. The lights were already off but I could still see well because of the light
outside the window. I was planning to turn off the TV when I realized that someone, rather
something was standing just a few inches right beside my feet. I could see the form of her face but
couldn’t get a clear picture and the worst of it was that she was just inches away from me! With all
the courage left in me at that time, I managed to close my eyes and wake my brother up asking
him to move closer to me. I covered myself with my blanket and started praying hard until I fell
asleep again.
The next morning at breakfast, I asked my brother if he noticed anything unusual when I
woke him up. He said that he didn’t find anything unusual but he asked why we were still
watching TV with all the lights on at a very late hour.
66. What’s the purpose of the author to write the passage?

69. When the author woke up feeling cold, .
A. he turned off the TV and light

第四部分 任务型阅读(共 10 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 10 分)
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。
注意:每个空格只填一个单词。
Did you know that falling down is the leading cause of injury death for Americans aged 65
and older?
Each year 35 to 40 percent of older adult Americans fall at least once.
Falling down is not just the result of getting older. Falling can be caused by a variety of
circumstances, and many falls can be prevented.
Here are 4 simple steps you can take to significantly reduce your risk of injury from falling
down.
Improve Your Body Balance with Exercise to Prevent Falling
● If you don’t have a regular exercise program, start one. Lack of exercise leads to weakness,
and that increases your chances of falling.
● Exercises can improve your body balance and flexibility at any age. Try exercises like
Yoga and Tai Chi.
● If you are over 50 and haven’t exercised regularly, check with your health care provider
about the best type of exercise program for you.
Increase Your Home’s Accessibility and Safety to Reduce Falling Risks
About half of all falls happen at home. To increase accessibility and make your home safer:
● Remove items you might trip over from stairs and places where you walk.
● Remove small throw rugs(易滑地垫)or use double-sided tape to keep rugs from slipping.
● Have grab bars installed next to your toilet, and install grab bars in your tub or shower.
● Improve the lighting in your home.____________________________________________________________________________________________
● Make sure all stairways have handrails and sufficient lighting.
● Wear shoes that give good support and have thin non-slip soles.
You might also consider avoiding lightweight slippers ( especially backless styles), which
can reduce your feeling of control.
Prevent Falling : Watch Out for Medication Side Effects
Age can effect the way some medications work in your body, so if you have been taking any
over-the-counter medications for a while, it’s important to tell your health care provider. He or she
will be able to tell you if they are still safe for you to take.
● Look out for drugs that have side effects including drowsiness(困倦). These side effects
can increase your risk of falling. This is especially important with over-the-counter cold and flu
medications, which can often increase drowsiness.
● And don’t forget herbal remedies(草药). Some remedies increase sleepiness and many
react with other types of medication, which could increase your risk of falling down. Be sure to
check with your health care provider before trying new medication.
Want to Prevent Falling? Have Your Vision Checked Regularly
Vision problems can increase your chances of falling.
● You may be wearing the wrong glasses that cause vision problems or limit your vision.
● To reduce your risk of falling, have your vision checked by an eye doctor every year for
early detection and correction of vision problems. If you can’t see something, it’s harder to avoid
it, and this increase your risk of falling.

第五部分:书面表达(满分 25 分)
As is vividly shown in the cartoon, while the boy is still in sound sleep, the father is observing
his watch and saying to the mother who is carrying the breakfast, “It's time to wake him up…”
As a Senior Three student, study time seems much limited. As a result, more and more ____________________________________________________________________________________________
students try to work hard from early mornings till late evenings, even stay up too late. Our parents
are worrying about the college entrance exams, so they cruel-heartedly stop the child from
sleeping.
In my opinion, enough sleep is necessary. Otherwise we would feel tired both physically and
mentally. What we need is to have a real rest, instead of getting more tired. So doing nothing
tiring in this period is really good for us.
Our life should be pleasant. How we are looking forward to some relaxing exercises! How
we wish to have a free chat with my classmates or just take a walk! After all, health is far more
important than study.
