I spent plenty of time traveling in Germany, and learned that the most unforgettable memories could be
found by walking in the countryside and visiting people. Most of the Germans that I met were very kind,
warm and friendly. They lived a simple life and were satisfied with that.
When you travel in the countryside, you will notice that many Germans can speak very good English.
They can communicate easily with almost any English speaker because they learn English in European
schools very early, and it is a skill they develop for many years. So when I traveled around Germany,
communication was not a problem for me.
Many of the towns in Germany are still the same as they were 100 years ago. So it is really a wonderful
thing to see the architecture (建筑) there. There are some little pubs (酒吧) where you can go and have a drink,
and some cute little shops that you should visit.
However, the real place that is worth visiting is the countryside itself. Tourists can walk on the roads and
hills or even take risks challenging rock climbing. You can walk on so many roads where you may get lost
and even never notice it. But every road leads to the next town, and you will never worry about getting lost.
You can just walk around and enjoy the natural beauty of the country.
In the world of natural beauty, Germany is certainly near the top of the list. If you leave the cities and
simply visit the small towns, you will find many wonderful people and countryside that you will never forget.
46. According to the writer, most Germans in the countryside lived a __________ life.
A. rich B. poor C. hard D. simple
47. From the passage we can guess that the writer probably speaks __________.

You may have traveled by plane before, but do you know how these big “birds” fly in the sky?
Last year, a group of US students visited Mitchell International Airport. They got the chance to see how
pilots work and learn something else in the airport.
The students were taking part in the project Be the Spark Education Tours. They went to factories, IT
companies, newspaper offices and other places to see what jobs are really about. This time, they got the
chance to go to the airport.
A girl, Kyra Aguillard, said that it was really cool to see the pilots and to actually look inside the places 第 4 页 共 6 页
where the pilots work. Along with other students, Aguillard went through security checkpoints (安全检查处),
walked on the areas where planes often stand. And they even went into the cockpit (驾驶舱). Everything in
the pilot's room made her so excited. Since then, the 13yearold girl has made up her mind to be a pilot in the
future.
During the trip, the students were also given some talks about how to build a plane and how to make it
fly. The talks were clear and understandable.
“The students are learning in math, science and other classes. We wish to offer them a good chance to
see the things that they have learned really connect with the real world. So they can open their eyes and minds
to a successful future,” said Mary Steinbrecher, the director of the project.

Collecting junk isn’t a strange task. You get things that were used by people. You sell them, mainly for
reusing. But if you collect used things and do it for fun and never sell any of them, that's not usual any more.
Dean Lewis is happy to be such an unusual person. He owns the world's largest old car junkyard ( 废 品
场)—the Old Car City U.S.A.
The Old Car City U.S.A. started as a general store in 1931, which was owned by the family of the
present owner Dean Lewis. The store sold different things like clothing, car parts, and so on. In 1940, the 2nd
World War changed the general store into a junkyard. And the family thought of making more money through
waste cars.
However, Dean Lewis thought about something else. Instead of destroying the old cars, he decided to
preserve them. So when he got the family business in 1970, he started to make money and even got a loan
(贷款) just to buy all the old cars he could collect. His collection grew into the Old Car City U.S.A., which
had all his favorite products of the many years.
The old car junkyard is filled with over 4,500 rusty (生锈) American cars produced in the middle of the
last century. Most of these cars are models from 1972 or older. As you walk around the area, you’ll see
famous old cars that have been kept outdoors for 60 years or put on top of one another.
Besides the rusty old cars, other things like old toys, bicycles, school buses are also seen in the Old Car
City U.S.A. And the general store has turned into a junkyard, like an outdoor museum and a favorite place for
photographers.

A. because of war B. because of the family business
C. to make money D. to have fun
53. When did the Old Car City U.S.A. start?
A. In 1972. B. In 1970. C. In 1940. D. In 1931.

A. buy B. save C. stop D. sell
55. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

Lizards (蜥蜴) are coldblooded animals. This means their body temperature changes with that of their
environment. However, by changing their behavior the whole day, they can keep their temperature
unchanging.
Lizards are among the many animals that live in deserts (沙漠). They usually come out of their holes
early in the morning. Most lizards get heat in the sun before starting their daily activities. In midmorning,
they go out for food. If it becomes too hot, lizards can raise their tails and bodies off the ground to help cool
off. At midday, they return to their holes or stay under rocks for several hours. Late in the day, they again lie
in the sun to get heat before the unpleasantly cold desert night falls.
Like all animals, lizards have ways of protecting themselves. Some types of lizards have developed a
most unusual ability to protect themselves. If a lizard is caught by its tail by another animal, the tail will break
off. Then the tail will go on moving around to stop the attacker (攻击者) while the lizard runs away. A month
or two later, the lizard grows a new tail.
There are about 3 , 000 kinds of lizards, and all of them can bite, but only two types of lizards are
poisonous (有毒的): the Gila monster of the southwestern United States and the Mexican bearded lizard. Both
are short-legged, thick-bodied with fat tails. These lizards do not attack people and will not bite them unless
