What makes a gift special? Is it the price you see on the gift receipt?Or is it the look on the
recipient’s face when they receive it that determines the true value? What gift is worth the most?
This Christmas I was debating what to give my father. My dad is a hard person to buy for because
he never wants anything.I pulled out my phone to read a text message from my mom saying that we
were leaving for Christmas shopping for him when I came across a message on my phone that I had
locked. The message was from my father. My eyes fell on a photo of a flower taken in Wyoming, and
underneath a poem by William Blake. The flower,a lone dandelion standing against the bright blue sky,
inspired me.My dad had been reciting those words to me since I was a kid. That may even be the reason
why I love writing.I decided that those words would be my gift to my father.
I called back.I told my mom to go without me and that I had already created my gift.I sent the
photo of the creamcolored flower to my computer and typed the poem on top of it.As I was arranging
the details another poem came to mind. The poem was written by Edgar Allan Poe.My dad recited it as
much as he did the other.I typed that out as well and searched online for a background to the words of
it.The poem was focused around dreaming, and after searching I found the perfect picture. The image
was painted with blues and greens and purples, twisting together to create the theme and wonder of a
dream. As I watched both poems passing through the printer, the white paper coloring with words that
shaped my childhood,I felt that this was a gift that my father would truly appreciate.
Christmas soon arrived. The minute I saw the look on my dad’s face as he unwrapped those
swirling black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame,I knew I had given the perfect gift.

B.drawing the background by hand
C.painting the letters in three colors
D.matching the words with pictures
28.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To show how to design images for gifts.
B.To suggest making gifts from one’s heart.
C.To explain how computers help create gifts.
D.To describe the gifts the author has received.

From selfdriving cars to carebots(care + robots) for elderly people , rapid development in
technology has long represented a possible threat to many jobs normally performed by people. But
experts now believe that almost 50 percent of occupations(职业) existing today will be completely
unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence continues to change businesses.
“The next fifteen years will see a revolution(革命) in how we work, and a revolution will
necessarily take place in how we plan and think about workplaces,” said Peter Andrew,Director of
Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia Pacific.
A growing number of jobs in the future will require creative intelligence, social skills and the
ability to use artificial intelligence.
The report is based on interviews with 200 experts, business leaders and young people from Asia
Pacific,Europe and North America. It shows that in the US technology already destroys more jobs than
it creates.
But the report states:“Losing occupations does not necessarily mean losing jobs—just changing
what people do.” Growth in new jobs could occur as much, according to the research.
“The growth of 20 to 40 person companies that have the speed and technological knowhow will
directly challenge big companies,” it states.
A 2014 report by Pew Research found 52 percent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics
were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few
years. The optimists pictured “a future in which robots do not take the place of more jobs than they create.” according to Aaron Smith, the report’s coauthor.
“Technology will continue to affect jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created.Although there
have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there were billions of
jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change,” Microsoft’s
Jonathan Grudin told researchers.
29.According to the report, .
A.people won’t necessarily lose jobs
B.big companies will face fewer challenges
C.small companies will win against big companies
D.most people will become interested in technology
30.We can infer from the text that in the future .
A.people will face many difficulties
B.people will take up more creative jobs
C.artificial intelligence will threaten people’s lives
D.most jobs will be done in traditional workplaces
31.What is the attitude of most experts in artificial intelligence and robotics to the future?
A.Mixed. B.Worried.
C.Hopeful. D.Doubtful.
32.Jonathan Grudin’s words in the last paragraph suggest that .
A.there will be enough jobs for people
B.things will change a lot in a few years
C.many people will become unemployed
D.technology will totally change future jobs

Sports are the base of my life, next to my mother who raised me when my dad left us.I have been
into sports since I was six years old.I have known many coaches and heard hundreds of their tips, but
they usually focused on drills to develop my skills and reach the next level of play.
When I was in Senior Two,I met the new school basketball coach,Brian Pawloski.I thought I was
certain to be selected for the school team since I had been in it the year before.I showed up to the
tryouts and put out about 90% effort since I thought I’d make it with no problem. That was a big
mistake.
Brian Pawloski is the hardestworking coach I have ever met.He didn’t expect 100% effort,he
expected 200% effort.One example : he once made us do 40 suicide drills ( 训 练 ) for the 40
layups( 投 篮 ) we missed in a game. Some think this is crazy , but it isn’t.After this conditioning
practice,as we were getting a cup of cold water to drink,I said,“Coach, that was the best practice
I ever had.” I was completely sincere. This man was and is the person who influenced me most at my high school. He expects us to be excellent not just on the court but in the classroom. If I am not working
on basketball,I am reading a book that he thinks will help us better understand life’s challenges,
including Wooden:A Coach’s Life,and The Screwtape Letters.
In the first two years I slacked off,not putting forth my full potential(潜力).Now,unlike the
coaches of my youth, this man was interested in how he did off the court. He always made sure I kept
up with my studies and was able to be trusted.I can honestly say that no other coach has given me so
much advice on how to succeed in basketball, but more importantly,in life.My school is lucky to have
such a great person to teach, coach and influence their students.I will always remember my highschool
basketball days as one of the hardest times I have ever worked in my life not only in basketball but in
my growth as an individual.
33.Different from other coaches,Coach Brian .
A.concentrated on skill training
B.asked the team to do more reading than training
C.trained the team to the edge of death
D.expected the team to do well in their studies
34.The underlined phrase “slacked off” in the last paragraph probably means “ ”.
A.paid no attention B.showed no interest
C.made less effort D.had less passion
35.In the author’s eye,Coach Brian is .
A.professional and serious
B.strict and helpful
C.skilled and cruel

In Chinese culture, the idea of the dragon may have come from the alligator—a good sign for
agriculture. It can bring to us good fortune. Dragons are generous and wise, although unpredictable. It
was close connected to the royal family. According to popular belief,if you were born in the dragon
year, you are intelligent, brave,or a natural leader. But in the west,an idea of the dragon probably
came from the snake—an animal of that people were afraid.
