He got home at last, tired and hungry.
He was lying on the grass, relaxed.
He sings happily.

Many businesses offer membership cards to clients,
promising that they will enjoy discounts, and the more they use the cards, the
bigger the discounts will be. This is a common practice to attract and keep regular
customers. By providing quality products or services at reasonable prices,
businesses can indeed achieve this goal. However, in recent years, consumers
trying to book flights or hotels on certain websites have discovered that prices
were actually higher for frequent users than for newcomers. They found that they
could pay less by opening up a new account rather than using an old one.
Unfortunately, these businesses are using information gathered through big data
on clients' preferences and purchasing habits to take advantage of them, which
amounts to targeted price discrimination. There have been numerous cases of
overcharging based on big data on various shopping platforms in recent years.
However, since it's difficult to collect sufficient evidence to accuse these businesses, only a small
number of consumers have chosen to take them on. Thus, big data, which is supposed to benefit
the public, is helping some businesses cheat consumers. Big data itself is not abad thing, since it is
playing an increasingly important role in social life and economic growth. It can serve as a basic
resource and tool. But since it is being used to overcharge frequent clients, the public has
expressed anger. It's a short-sighted behavior that will eventually drive away customers. Instead,
big data should be used to improve businesses' services and products by strengthening supervision
(监督)and punishment so that this new technology can play its due role in Internet commerce. It's
urgent to stop the misuse of big data by stepping up supervision. Market and network supervisory
authorities need to join hands in this effort. The illegal use of big data should be severely punished.
Advanced technology should be more widely used to supervise big data use. It's all right for
businesses to employ certain methods to make big money, but to charge regular clients more than
newcomers by taking advantage of information collected through big data analysis is violating
regular clients' rights as well as their trust in these businesses. The Law on the Protection of
Consumer Rights and Interests clearly states that consumers have the right to know the truth about
the commodities and services they buy. Thus, to overcharge regular clients is not only betraying the
principle of fairness and sincerity, but also relevant laws. In the long run, it's the businesses that
will suffer most.

Orchids 'SecretOrchids(兰花)are some of the most rare and delicate species in all of nature. For
hundreds of years orchids have been prized discoveries of collectors and adventurers hoping to find new
and diverse kinds of the flower."Orchid hunters"went looking for the mysterious orchids and brought
back new types to sell. However, many of them met with tragedy instead.Dozens of hunters were killed
by accidents or diseases or murder.Others became food for horrible creatures. While
the plants have long been valued for their beauty, they may be even more important to
science and our understanding of co-evolution.Unlike plants that can self-pollinate(自我授粉),orchids
need very specific insects or birds to spread their pollen. The process by which insects, the wind,or birds
spread the pollen of different flowers is called pollination.Pollen is a powder produced by plants that
contains their genetic material. In order for the plants to reproduce, the pollen must be
physically moved to the flower's stigma(花的柱头),which contains an egg.Now the fertilized egg can
become a seed.Birds and insects can pollinate plants by touching many different flowers and spreading
the pollen around.
Orchids evolved to attract insects and birds.Because there are many different species of
orchid, there are also many different ways the orchids attract their pollinators.Orlean explains
that"many species look so much like their favorite insects that an insect mistakes them for its
relatives.and when it lands on the flower to visit, pollen sticks to its body.Another orchid imitates
the shape of something that a pollinating insect likes to kill...Other species look like the mate of
their pollinator, so the bug tries to mate with one orchid and then another...and spreads pollen
from flower to flower each hopeless time."Other orchids don't use their shape at all,but rather
produce specialized smells to attract specific insects, such as bees, beetles or flies. Some orchids
smell like cake, some like chocolate, and some like rotting meat. All these smells may seem
weird, but they exist to attract creatures to their pollen and help the orchids survive.Orchids
provide new angles for the research into plant and animal evolution on the earth. The strategies to
attract insects and spread their flowers' pollen go on and on.Each family of orchids has a unique
kind of insect or bird that visits their flowers,as well as its own way of attracting them.It has
worked, too.Orchid species number more than 25,000 worldwide, which is more kinds of species
than any other flower on the planet, and new ones are still being found.Orchids and the insects
that pollinate them are one of the most amazing examples of evolution.By tricking the insects
that collect its pollen, the orchid has survived since the time of the dinosaurs.

Here are a number of English
learning tips to help you improve your English.Choose a few of them to get started
today! Ask yourself weekly:What do | want to learn this week?Asking yourself this
question every week will help you stop and think for a moment about what is
most important to you.It is easy to focus only on the current unit, grammar
exercise, etc. If you take a moment to stop to make a careful plan for each week, you
will notice the progress you are making and,in turn, become more inspired by how
quickly you are learning English! You will be surprised at how this feeling of
success will motivate you to learn even more English.Quickly review important
new information shortly before going to bed. Research has shown that our brains
process information that is fresh in our brains while we sleep.By shortly(this means
very quickly--just a glance at what you are working on at the moment) going over
some exercise, reading, etc. before you go to sleep, your brain will work away on
this information while you sleep! While doing exercises and alone at home or in
your room,speak English aloud.
Connect the muscles(肌肉)of your face to the information in your head.Just as understanding the
basics of tennis does not make you a great tennis player, understanding grammar rules does not
mean you can automatically speak English well. You need to practice the act of speaking
often.Speaking by yourself at home and reading the exercises you are doing will help connect your
brain to your facial muscles and improve pronunciation and make your knowledge active.Do five to
ten minutes of listening at least four times a week. In the past,I decided I needed to get fit and went
jogging--usually three or four miles.Well, after not having done anything for many months, those
three or four miles really hurt!Needless to say,I did not go jogging for another few
months!Learning to understand spoken English well is very similar. If you decide that you are going
to work hard and listen for two hours, chances are that you will not do extra listening exercises any
time soon. if,on the other hand, you start off slowly and listen on a regular basis(five to ten minutes
at least four times a week),it will be easier to develop the habit of listening to English.Look for
situations in which you must speak, read, and listen to English. This is probably the most important
tip.You need to use English in a"realworld"situation.Learning English in a classroom is
important, but putting your English knowledge into practice in real situations will improve your
fluency in speaking English. If you do not know of any'"real life"situation, create new ones for
yourself by using the Internet to listen to news, write English responses in forums, exchange emails
in English with email pals,etc.

The term “organizational culture” refers to the norms and
values of an organization, which together make the personality of the company. These
values and norms are shared by people working throughout the organization. They
govern the way employees interact with each other, within the workplace. Therefore,
improving organizational culture is the need of the hour, as people want to work for a
company that enables them to keep a balance between their work and personal life.
The organizations that treat their employees well and provide a good working
atmosphere have shown an increase in the productivity of their employees. As a result,
the attrition rates (损耗率) are also lowered, which saves a company the costs spent in
hiring and training the employees. So, a healthy organizational cultural is a win-win
situation for the management, the customers, the shareholders and most importantly,
the employees themselves.
When it comes to improving organizational culture, raining your employees in the right way is an
important step towards improving your organization’s work culture. When your employees know
how to do things the right way and what the company expects from them, the rates of conflicts and
errors can be brought down significantly. In addition, through the right training, your employees will
become enthusiastic and be interested in working as a team and improving the work atmosphere as a
whole. Then a productive environment will be created.Another good way to bring about positive
changes in the culture of the organization is by analyzing the existing culture and comparing it with
the expectations of your employees. Bring changes accordingly. You can also organize discussions
with your team members and talk about matters related to the current culture of the organization.
Try to bring about the changes you find justified.Conflicts are an unavoidable part of any
organization and have direct bearing on the health of its culture. How they are handled is an indicator
of the common organizational culture. Therefore, when conflicts do arise, the management must
settle them quickly and kindly, in case they become worse over time. More importantly, an
unmistakable and just conflict resolution mechanism should be created. If employees feel they are all
being treated equally, they are more likely to accept their mistakes and the judgment of the
management.Since the organization is a collection of people, cooperation is a must to attain the
objectives. Team building is vital in this respect and the management must show the willingness or
intention to involve employees in this process. They may be fun activities, like sports, games or
serious ones. At the end of the day, such exercises strengthen the team spirit and the employees’
loyalty towards the organization, because cooperative teamwork proves a healthy organizational
climate.

dug out of drawers. The beach shoes have been brought back from the shed. Tens of
millions are about to go on their annual holiday. They will go away for at least a week.A
vacation means workers get more sleep without the early-morning alarm. In addition,
they no longer suffer the pain of the daily transport: the crowded railway carriages or
roads And best of all, there are no meetings to suffer. In short, holidays reduce stressIt
also gives workers a chance to recharge their mental batteries. Heading to a new location
allows employees to clear their thoughts. After all, there is more to life than spreadsheets

thought might occur when walking quietly along the beach, or through a wood. Often
such ideas will be all the more original for being dreamed up in a moment of relaxation

Although it does lead to crowded traffic, there is something to be said for the
European tradition of taking holidays in August. The predictability of the season
means that companies can adjust their plans accordingly. Even those people who are
in the office can enjoy an easier pace of life. Most of their customers and suppliers are
on a break so there is not much that anyone can doIndeed, just as employees need a
break from the workplace, companies sometimes need a break from their employees.
After a trading scandal(丑闻) at Societe Generale, a French bank recommended that all
traders take a two-week break at some point in the year. The aim was to make sure
that any unusual dealing patterns would be discovered while the employee who was
suspected of doing something improper was away from his desk.Senior managers can
also benefit from seeing what happens when their juniors head to the beach.Does
office efficiency improve as soon as a mid-level manager disappears? If so, this
suggests that he or she is not running the department well. Does an underling(下属)

bowing before little piles of sand, don't panic: They are not into some cut ritual(崇拜
仪式) but rather undergoing a team building activity, which has become popular in
China in the last few years.Team building aims to enhance social relations between
members of a team, group or company address interpersonal problems, and improve
performance in teamwork scenarios and thus maximize output. As many leaders
prefer their teams to work that way, team building becomes a preferred choice to
achieve that goal. However, things sometimes go wrong. Like the case mentioned in
the beginning, the “Ceremony" implied participants were saying farewell 10 the past
and were ready to embrace future. The original intention was not bad, but the way in
was done was quite absurd. Many other ridiculous ceases have also become front-
page stories. In January 2016, a company in East China's Nanjing, capital city of
Jiangsu Province, asked its employees go into the streets crying slogans, hug women
they didn't know, and even kiss dustbins alongside the roads.
In December 2017, a beauty company in Nanchang, East China's Jiangxi Province, held its
14th anniversary celebration, during which employees hit each other in the face after
kneeling down. The company said it aimed to cultivate the so-called wolf spirit - a term
popular among Chinese small and medium-sized companies- which seek to help workers
make a firm decision to achieve success. But wait a minute, team building is meant to make
members feel like living in a family, isn't it? Can these extreme activities make people feel
so or at least enjoy the process? Many such activities have also turned into a way of
pleasing the leadership. Moreover, almost all such team building is scheduled at
weekends, sacrificing time with family members. This has completely gone off course. A
team can be united if it works in a harmonious atmosphere with members willingly
working together toward a goal, especially when the employers sets an example to care
for everyone in the team rather than being fussy. A relaxed gathering will be more
effective than exhausting team building programs designed to make staff better know
each other and get closer. What is learnt during team building is more important than what
form it takes, and a company should be aware of the importance of coordinating office
atmosphere daily. It is unrealistic to make employees go deep into understanding the
importance of teamwork or begin to love their company within just dozens of minutes of
team building programs. After all, managing a team well is tougher than hurting

number scale, ranging from 1for mild discomfort to 7 for unbearable distress.Situation 1:you're visiting
New York City and realize there's no way you'll be able to get to all the exhibits, see all the recommended
plays or take in even part of the"musts".How do you feel now?Something like 5?Situation 2:you,re
at dinner with friends, and you've all agreed to make it a strictly phone-free evening. But your
smartphone won't stop beeping Twitter and text alerts.Something is obviously up in your social network,
but you can't check.Even 7wouldn't match the stress you're feeling now.Welcome to FoMO (Fear of
Missing Out),the latest mental disorder caused by social media connections sharing updates that leaves
individuals feeling that they are missing out on something more exciting, important,or interesting going
on somewhere else.It is an outcome of technological advancement and booming social information.
According to a recent study,56per cent of those who use social networks suffer this.

It is not uncommon that at night when you've sworn again to put the phone aside or turn off the computer, you cast one
last glance at the screen on your way to bed in case you miss some titbit (趣闻)supplied by mere acquaintances or even
strangers'requesting your"friendship".We all know the studies showing that end-of-life regrets centre on what we didn't
do,rather than on what we did.If so,constantly watching others doing things that we are not is rich ground for a
future of looking back in sorrow.Attractive online images-so charming from afar-make FoMO more destructive.
Technology has become the major construct through which we define intimacy (亲密).You may look on in wonder as
someone taps out an endless text message instead of actually talking to the person they're with.Being connected to
everyone, all the time,is a new human experience; we,re just not equipped to cope with it yet.Researchers say our
dependence on technology can be reduced if we manage to separate ourselves, even for short periods of time, from our
gadgets. However, the problem can only be settled when we grasp that our brains and our humanity-not our
technologies-enable this addiction. We cannot seek solutions without honestly asking ourselves why we are so afraid of
missing out.Researchers find FoMO occurs mostly in people with unfulfilled psychological needs in fields such as love,
respect and security.FoMO levels are highest in young people,in particular young men. What, then, can we do about
something so damaging to our quality of life? The best way to cope with FoMO is to recognize that,at our fast-paced life
,we are sometimes bound to miss out.Instead of trying to maximize our benefits,we seek a merely"good
enough"result. If you still doubt that"good enough"is the best cure for FoMO,the words of the American essayist and
poet Ralph Waldo Emerson might strike the right chord,"For everything you have missed, you have gained something
else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else."
