problem,solution,evaluation)。
Othello
Desdemona
Roderigo
Iago
Cassio
Emilia

• Some individuals are born with a gift for public speaking. 16 Do you want to
be a good public speaker? Here are some principles you must master.
• People want to listen to someone who is interesting, relaxed and comfortable. Too
often, when you stand up to give a speech, you focus on the “public” at the expense
of the “speaking.” 17 Focus on the speaking. Talk directly to your audience, be
yourself and make a connection.
• Even the most successful public speaker will make mistakes. Yet, the only one
who cares about any mistake is the one who is speaking. People’s attention wanders
constantly. In fact, most people only absorb about 20 percent of a speaker’s
message. So, don’t stop speaking when you make a mistake unless it’s a truly
serious one. 18
• Your goal is not to be a perfect public speaker. 19 And like everything else in
life, that takes practice. Remember, even world champion athletes practice their skills
on a consistent basis.
• 20 It’s rare to hear someone say, “I wish that speaker had spoken longer.” On
the other hand, you probably can’t count the times that you’ve thought, “I’m glad that
talk is over. It seemed to go on forever!” So surprise your audience. Always make
your presentation just a bit shorter than anticipated. It’s better to leave your listeners
wishing for more than shifting restlessly in their seats waiting for your speech finally
to end.
• A. Do the opposite.
• B. You want to be an effective public speaker.
• C. You don’t need to apologize for a minor slip.
• D. When it comes to public speaking, less is usually more.
• E. The objective of most speeches is to benefit the audience.
• F. Take the fear out of public speaking by focusing on your listeners.
• G However, the majority of people are effective speakers because they train to be.

someone is behaving in a way that hurts you. ____16____ The following are some ways to catch
criticism before it begins.
• ____17____ Before you criticize, pause and consider whether you really need to say anything at
all. If someone did something to get on your nerves, would you really need to point it out? Sometimes,
it’s best to let small rudeness go Take a few deep breaths and leave the room instead of criticizing.
• Be realistic. Critical people often have very high expectations of those around them. Your tendency
to criticize may come from expecting too much from others. Sometimes you may find yourself
consistently annoyed or disappointed with others. ____18____

• The Emotional Stress of a Sports Injury
• Athletes react to injuries with a wide range of emotions which may include refusal, anger, sadness and even
depression. An injury often seems unfair to anyone who has been physically active and otherwise healthy. These
feelings are real and can prevent athletes moving forward, so it’s important to move beyond the negative and find
more positive strategies to deal with this. 12
• To recover from an injury faster, first of all, you need to learn about it. 13 So you can consult your doctor,
trainer, coach or therapist until you know exactly what you can do to recover quickly and fully. Also instead of focusing
on performance, you need to accept that now you have an injury and you’re the only one that can fully determine your
outcome. By taking responsibility for your recovery process, you’ll find a greater sense of control and quickly progress
in recovery, rather than pushing yourself to perform at your pre-injury level.
• 14 As we know, a common response after an injury is to isolate(孤立) yourself from teammates, coach
and friends. It's important to maintain contact with others as you recover. Your teammates, friends and coach can
offer advice or encouragement during the recovery process. Just knowing you don't have to face the injury alone can
also be a great comfort. So, go to practice; remain around the locker room and the weight room. Be visible by being
an active member of the group,
• That you’re injured doesn't mean you stop planning or setting goals. Rather than viewing the injury as a crisis, make it
another training challenge. Your goals will now focus on recovery rather than performance. By monitoring your goals
you’ll also be able to notice small improvements in the recovery of your injury. You’ll feel more confident that you're

• Teenagers’ friendship
• My friend, Robert, has a twin sister named Amanda. Though they get along
well, there are some things about Amanda and her friends that puzzled Robert. He
can’t understand how girls can talk for so long. For example, sometimes when he
leaves the apartment to play football, Amanda and her friend, Sharon, are sitting on
the sofa, talking. When he comes back three and a half hours later, they are still
sitting on the sofa, continuing the same conversation on the same topic. One day
Robert was so curious that he asked Amanda what they talked about, but she
replied, “we are best friends. We talked about almost everything---- film stars, pop
songs, recipes, everything!”
• Boys and girls have different attitudes towards friendship. Friendships between
girls are usually anchored in sharing feelings and supports, but friendships between
boys are based on shared activities or interests. A boy is likely to be curious about
sharing his feelings with close friends. A girl’s closest friend, however, might be
eager to tell her about something that has happened in her life.
• Many studies worldwide show that girls have more friendships than boys. In fact,
many adolescent males cannot name a single best friend. When asked, they usually
hesitate before responding, “My best friend? I can’t think about that. I am busy with
my homework, and I have so many different friends that it is hard to choose just one
best friend.”
• Females who have been asked can usually answer the question without
pausing, “A best friend? Of course. We have a lot to share with each other. We do a
lot of things together such as talking and shopping.”
• We have to realize: boys share activities, while girls share feelings. The qualities that
boys and girls consider important in a friend seem to be the same, regardless of the
basis of these friendships. The important thing to remember is that both of them are
friendships. We all need friends in our lives.

• Desertification--- a growing problem!
• Desertification, the name for what happens when land that can be used

Nations and its member countries are working hard to fight desertification.
• China has taken many steps to stop the process of desertification,
including encouraging farmers to build fences (which stop wind from blowing
the soil away), and providing money for people in dry areas to plant more
trees and bushes. This is one of the cheapest ways of decreasing
desertification. At the moment, China is planting a “green wall” of plants and
bushes in the north-east part of the country that could grow even longer
than the Great Wall. China is also spending money trying to find and drill for
underground water. They do the research in the Gebi Desert which is the
second largest desert in China.
• The China National Desertification Monitoring Centre (CNDMC) was set
up in 1996 to do research into the problem of desertification. The centre has
over 300 scientists devoted to finding measures that will stop desertification.
however, scientific research is not the only way to help. There are many
things that everyone can do to help stop desertification. These include
better administration of areas that are likely to turn into desert, and training
people in how to use water without wasting it. There are also things that can
be done at a national or international level, such as sharing information
between countries and using satellites to pick out areas likely to be affected
by desertification.

• What developing countries really need to do is to stop poverty by
fighting the causes of it. One way to help a country develop is to
improve its infrastructure. The infrastructure of a country is what
makes everything run well, and it includes things like transport,
irrigation, electricity, telephones and schools. These things provide a
framework for new jobs to be created, allowing people to help
themselves so that they no longer need to depend on others.
• Another way to help a country is through the development of
private enterprise along with job training in order to address the
problem of unemployment. For example, in Afghanistan, housewives
and widows have been taught to sew clothing, which they can sell for
extra income. In eastern Nigeria, young people are being trained to
use computer technology to develop their problem-solving and
communication skills, and to find new occupations in the field of
technology. In South Africa, a community programme is providing
training and help for people without jobs or homes, so that they can
learn to make works of art to sell to tourists. Although this is a bit

•I’m writing to offer some suggestions about your dog.
•I’m writing to inform you that your dog is barking continuously,
which brings a lot of inconvenience to my life.
•I feel sorry to trouble you but I am afraid that I can’t tolerate your
dog.
But your lovely dog nearly
barks all the time. That has greatly influenced
my daily life.

• The Meredith family lived in a small community. As the economy was in decline,
some people in the town had lost their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to
make ends meet. People were trying to help each other meet the challenges.
• Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time
visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help.
When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.
• One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before.
There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to
work, and their little boy. The little boy — his name was Bernard — had interested
her very much.
• “I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara.
“He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I
don’t see what he can do.”
• After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we
could help him to earn money.” said Clara. “His family is suffering so much.”
• “So do I,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.”
• For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and
cried, “I have a great idea! I have a solution that we can all help accomplish.”
• The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was
sure to be a good one. “I tell you what we can do,” said John. “You know that big box
of corn Uncle John sent us?Well, we can make popcorn(爆米花), and put it into
paper bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.”
• 1. 续写词数应为150左右;
• When Mrs.Meredith heard of John’s idea, she, too,
thought it a good one. Then she said, “you may send him
every Saturday morning, if you will pop the corn for him
yourselves. John, will you agree to take charge of the work?”
“Indeed, I will,” replied John, and he kept his word. Very soon
the children were busy popping the corn, while their mother
went out to buy the paper bags. When she came back, she
brought Bernard with her. The corn was all popped, the
paper bags filled, and arranged in the basket when Bernard
arrived.
• With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new
business. And much sooner than could be expected, he
returned with an empty basket. Never had he earned so
much money before in his life. When he found that it was all
to be his, he was so delighted that he could hardly speak, but
his bright smiling face spoke for him. People began to watch
for the “little pop-corn boy,” and every week he had at least
fifty cents to take home, and often more. All this was
because of John’s bright idea, and the way he carried it out.
•
• When Mrs.Meredith heard of John’s idea, she, too,
thought it a good one. So they went to the local super
market together. They bought a bag of corn and some
special bags for popcorn. When they got home , they
made a lot of popcorn and put it in the special bags.
With the popcorn, they went to Bernard’s home. They
told Bernard to sell the popcorn. Bernard and his
parents were very grateful. And the Meredish family also
felt happy to help this family.
• With everything ready, Bernard started out on his
new business. He took the popcorn around the house
and sold all the popcorn. He earned a lot of money.
Then he wanted to be self-dependent. Therefore, he
asked Mrs. Meredish to teach him how to make
popcorn. After that , not only did he sell popcorn, but he
also added cream and salt to the popcorn to make it
taste better. Bernard grew up to be a remarkable man.
He did not forget the help of Meredith’s family and he
also did what he could to help those in need.
• Albert was mad about computer games. He could spend hours and hours in
front of the screen, and even though his parents found it hard to believe, he really
enjoyed every minute of it. He hardly left his seat. When people encouraged him to
get involved with normal life, he would respond :"This is my doorway to the world,
there is much more here than you realize."
• Among all his games there was one he especially liked. In it he would move a
character around, collecting turtles(乌龟) on an infinity(无限) of levels and
screens. He was a real expert at it. Maybe there was no one else in the world who
had collected as many turtles as he had, but, nevertheless, Albert still wanted more
and more and more...
• One day, when he got home from school, everything had changed. As usual, as
soon as he arrived, he ran to his room to switch the computer on. But this time he
heard some strange noises, like breaking glass. Suddenly the screen broke, and
from inside came dozens, then hundreds, then thousands of little turtles. And they
filled every square inch of his bedroom. Albert was astonished. He couldn't believe
what was happening. But after pinching(掐) himself, he shut down and started the
computer up many times, and called to his parents to see if he was dreaming about
this. As it happens, he had to accept that on that day something very strange was
happening.
• On entering, his parents put their heads in their hands. Seeing that the turtles were
staying in Albert' s room, they decided to make them his responsibility.
• 1.续写词数应为150左右;
• Looking after thousands of turtles, day after day, was no easy task.
•
•
• When Albert forgot about his beloved computer games, the turtles disappeared.
• Looking after thousands of turtles, day after day, was no
easy task. Every day after school, Albert would rush to the
turtle tank and made sure every one of them was properly
fed and carefully attended. Sometimes, a few naughty little
ones would creep out and leave their droppings higher and
higher, which meant extra cleaning and taming from Albert's
side. He was, to some extent, a feeder, tamer, guardian and
mentor for the big turtle family. When all these
responsibilities weighed down heavily on Albert’s feeble
shoulder, he could no longer squeeze time on games, which
he had held dear for life. (92 words)
• When Albert forgot about his beloved computer games,
the turtles disappeared. Almost overnight, Albert regained his
liberty, which meant he could immediately re-plunge into the
colorful virtual world. However, this time, the internet lost all
its charm and Albert just wouldn't open the monitor. Instead,
he kept reminiscing about the good old days with the turtle
tribe and claimed taking care of real turtles was the best days
ever in his life. Obviously, this unforgettable experience
taught Albert an invaluable lesson: real life exists in reality,
not online. (78 words)
Albert

where, what, why, how)着手梳理清楚故事的情节,以
