A Chinese college student cycles over 1,000 kilometers in 19 days to encourage environmental protection.
The college student from central China's Hubei Province cycled over 1,000 kilometers to Shanghai in 19 days to highlight the importance of environmental protection, receiving high praise from related departments.
Huang Xi's journey started on Aug.3 from Xiaochang county,Hubei, spreading the message of environmental protection to over 5,000 people along his route.Huang said it was not very easy to start a conversation about environmental protection with strangers.“First you have to narrow the distance between you and your audience,”he noted. For instance,he would greet people at the roadside and introduce himself and his plan.He told Shanghai Observer that the environmental issue was not a good conversation opener because not everyone was interested.
Straw burning(秸秆焚烧) was a major focus for Huang since his journey began in summer.“Many people don't burn straw because there's a fine, but not many of them know that burning straw actually pollutes the environment,”he said.
Explaining the ban on straw burning, the benefits of sorting of waste as well as the importance of creatures in water and plants protection were the major part of his job on the road.
16 local authorities of environmental protection along Huang's route praised his efforts.“Environmental protection calls for not only governmental efforts but also social efforts,”said Chen Bin,an official from Wuhan's environmental department.
Huang shared his experience on social media, which gave him a level of support on his journey.
However, his cycle also drew the bad side of comments. Some said that his journey was only a publicity stunt (作秀),and some even said that in fact,it was a trip that Huang had to make since he ran out of his money at Internet cafes.Huang replied and
tried to prove that what they said was not true.
Huang, who studies environmental engineering in college, set off again on Sept.27 to take part in a training camp held by a center of environmental protection in Hubei Province.“I will share my experience of the journey, and hope people will pay more attention to the environment.”he said.

If you remain with low selfconfidence, you can expect your life to continue as it is.Nothing will change. You will think poorly of yourself and, following your lead, others will too.
There are many disadvantages related with low selfconfidence.Having a sour mood and misunderstanding what other people say and do will lead to unrepairable relationships. You'll expect people to say no to you because you're unworthy.Others will distance themselves from you and you'll spend most of your time alone.
You'll get angry easily and avoid social situations in order to protect yourself. When people want to be close to you, you'll fail to behave naturally and build a healthy relationship. When relationships don't work out well, you believe there is something entirely wrong with you,and this makes your selfconfidence decrease even further.
When you have low selfconfidence, you find it difficult to identify(辨别)and achieve goals in your life. You don't realize your life's purpose. There's no reason to try to devote to others since you have little value yourself. You feel there's nothing important that you have to give.Instead, you protect yourself from what you consider to be a dangerous world.
Sooner or later, your low selfconfidence and emotional anxiety you're experiencing will lead to a breakdown of your physical body. When you're sad, depressed, and angry, your cells(细胞)age and die more quickly. You may even put yourself into drugs, alcohol(酒精)or other harmful things.Because you don't feel you're
worthy, you don't take care of yourself by eating right, exercising, getting enough sleep and the medical attention you need.
Not a pretty picture. This isn't what you want for your life. But there is good news! You don't have to live like that. You can create a better life for yourself, knowing your value, achieving your goals, and being happy and excited about life.By learning how to be selfconfident, you're telling yourself that it's time for a change. That's exactly what you need to be doing right now.

It was dinner time for the Rangers,a group of mostly Indigenous (本地的) Australians who had spent a long day cleaning up the polluted beaches of the continent's northern coast.Soon they would be eating freshly caught fish and seafood cooked under the stars on an open fire,as their ancestors did.
The Rangers are of more than 100 Indigenous groups spread across Australia who have taken on the job of protecting the land of their forefathers. In Arnhem Land, they are the protectors of 3,300 square miles of land and sea. They comb the beaches by hand, picking up as much rubbish as possible. The task is very difficult as each day it delivers waves of new rubbish.
For the Rangers, cleaning the beaches is more than a vacation. For a people whose culture is strongly tied to the land, protecting the environment is equal to preserving their history.
However, colonization forcefully broke their connection to the land generations ago.Indigenous people were displaced and their cultural practices outlawed.Tens of thousands of years of traditional land management ended, and as a result many parts of the country now face serious disasters from invasive plant and animal species, bush fires and land mismanagement.
In recent years, the government has restored more than 20 percent of Australia's land to indigenous owners.Since 2007,the Indigenous Rangers Organizations have been at work protecting this land.
Luck, one of the few nonIndigenous employees working with the Rangers, said the combination of old and new techniques and an appreciation for the culture of indigenous workers has been critical to the program's success.
“You are working with staff who see the world different to you,so there is a much higher focus on the cultural aspects of work and life,” he said.
“Being a ranger is a source of confidence. You feel strong,” said Terence,a senior ranger.“Here we still live on the land. The culture is still alive.”

Ⅱ.阅读七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
What does it mean to be green? “Green” is more than just a color. It also means taking special steps to protect the environment. Why green? Plants are green, and without them the Earth wouldn't be such a lovely home for us human beings. What can we do? 16
Reduce It!
17 For instance,a shorter shower means you use less water and less fuel since your house uses to run the heater that warms up the water.
Reuse It!
Sometimes people call ours a “throwaway society”.It means that we're a little too willing to throw away old stuff (东西) and buy new stuff. 18 For instance,if your
baby brother becomes older and loses interest in his plastic basketball hoop (篮圈),why not give it to another family who has a little kid?
Recycle It!
Recycling has never been easier. Many communities will pick it up right in front of your house and some towns even require it.Recycled goods go to a recycling center, where they can be turned into new cans, bottles, and paper.
Enjoy It!
It's true that rubbish and pollution are problems, but the Earth remains a huge and beautiful place that's ready for you to explore. 19 Go for a hike, visit local nature centers and gardens, and climb mountains.
But before you travel the globe, take a look at your own backyard. Is there a spot where you could plant a tree or put in a little fruit or vegetable garden? 20
A.Here's a fourstep guide to being green.
B.Many times, even if you no longer need something, someone else just might.
C.You can start locally by visiting the naturally beautiful spots in your city.
D.Turn off the water when you're brushing your teeth.

第二节 概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Does writing come hard to you? Are you discouraged to find yourself poor at writing? Nobody is born knowing how to write.Good writing habits, which help make you write on a regular basis, are necessary for you to improve your writing.
Firstly, you are supposed to read a wide range of books. It's obvious when a writer is not wellread lack of reading will be obvious in every sentence one writes.Reading prepares you with necessary knowledge to be a good writer. What's more,it provides you with basic skills for writing. The importance of reading cannot be stressed too much:read as much and as often as you can.
Secondly,it's important to make a writing schedule and write daily if it is possible.Whether you write for two hours a day or fifteen minutes a day, daily writing is the key to developing good writing habits. It's better to write for fifteen or twenty minutes every day than to sit for five or six hours to write over the weekend. However,if
you can make a daily writing schedule with longer hours on your writing on weekends, then it's much better.
One of the worst habits is never to get help from others to improve your writing. It is advised that you share your work with others. For example, you can post scene or you blog, send your writing around to a few friends, round up some readers and let them comment on your writing. That way, you'll find your writing gradually improved.
