作答示例:
Papa was still out there and I needed to help him find the way to the truck. I searched for the button
hurriedly to switch on the front lights. They cast a frightening but hopeful glow. But could Papa see
them through the thick darkness? Anxiety seemed to capture me that I could hardly breathe and my
hands began to tremble. I kept sounding the horn again and again, hoping Papa would hear it. I did it
until I was exhausted and had no more strength in my arms. With no figure in sight, I shouted and cried
in despair.
Suddenly, Papa's face appeared at the window. My heart leaped with excitement and relief. He
opened the door and climbed onto the seat next to me. He coughed and wiped his eyes with dirty hands,
then pulled me into his arms. I held Papa tightly and sobbed. I could feel the tears streaming down my
dirty cheeks. Papa looked into my face. “I'm so proud of you,” Papa said. “The horn and lights led me to
shelter.” I cried even more, tears of joy because our family had survived the horrible storm.

W: Oh, it’ll be a loss for the literature world.
Text 7

M: Yes, I might work overtime again.

M: All right. So which part of it attracts you the most?
W: I enjoy the singing and dance very much, but my favorite part is actually the clothing.
M: You really know a lot about it.
W: You should, too. Generally, I really think traditional cultures such as Beijing Opera deserve more
attention. Many of them are not being preserved very well. It’s a pity some of them are disappearing.
M: You are right. Then when and where shall we meet tomorrow?
W: What about 6:00 p.m. at the north gate of the National Theater?
M: OK, but it’ll be crowded by bus then. I had better go by underground.
W: Good idea. I’ll just walk there since I live nearby.
Text 10
If you love books, don’t miss Shakespeare and Company when you visit Paris. It is a famous
English-language bookstore on the left bank of the river Seine. The first Shakespeare and Company was
opened in 1919 by Sylvia Beach. Ms. Beach did more than sell books. Her bookstore was also a library,
and she even prepared beds for visiting writers. Ms. Beach was not only kind to people but also good at
choosing books, so her bookstore was often visited by writers like Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce.
But in 1941, after the Germans took power in Paris, Ms. Beach was told to close her bookstore. In 1951,
another American, George Whitman, opened his own English-language bookstore in Paris. Just like Ms.
Beach, Mr. Whitman allowed people to borrow books and offered a place for visiting writers to sleep. To
remember Ms. Beach, Mr. Whitman changed the name of his bookstore to Shakespeare and Company in
1964, two years after she died. Next time you are in Paris, don’t forget to visit this friendly bookstore.
Maybe you can even spend the night!
