How does a young dog or cat get to know a new home? The animal uses its nose. Right
away it smells its new places. Then it makes wider and wider circles, smelling all the time.
Before long it can find its way home very well, even in the dark. It simply follows something
it knows well.
Stories happen about animals who found their way across land they had never smelled
before. Take the case of Smoky, a small white cat. Smoky had some funny red hair around its
right ear. One day Smoky and his owner began a long journey. They were moving from
Oklahoma to Tennessee. When they were just eighteen miles from their Oklahoma home,
Smoky jumped out of the car. Then he found his way back to the old house. There he
wandered around outside for many days. Finally he disappeared.
A year later Smoky meowed at the door of a house in Tennessee. A man opened the door.
“Is that you, Smoky?” he said in surprise. At first he couldn’t believe it. Then he saw the red
hair around its right ear. It was Smoky!

Who is smarter, human being or artificial intelligence(AI, 人工智能)?The question
swept the world a few months ago. In March 2016, AlphaGo, an AI program developed by
Google, had the Go(围棋) match with Lee Sedol, a South Korean Go player. He is the world
top player of this old Chinese game.
In October 2015, AlphaGo became the first computer program to beat a professional(职业
的) human Go player. And this time, it beat Lee Sedol 4-1.
In fact, before the match, most people believed that Lee would certainly be the winner,
because they didn’t think that AI was good enough to beat the human mind. However, the
result was disappointing. As a machine, AlphaGo would never get tired, while Lee Sedol was
only a human and humans must have some weaknesses.
AlphaGo’s wins over a human champion(冠军) show that computers can do more difficult
tasks. Some people may worry whether computers are now smart enough to beat us at
everything. But scientists say that is not the case. Real life problems can be more difficult
than the Go game. Thomas Johnson, a scientist of AI said, “It’s not hard to get a computer
program to remember and produce facts. What is hard is getting computers to use knowledge
in everyday situation. ” We believe we can use the technology of AI to improve the world.
45. The match between AlphaGo and Lee Sedol is mentioned at the beginning of the article
mainly to_____________.
A. get the reader to think about AI
B. draw the reader’s attention to AlphaGo
C. show how AI is usually tested
D. tell the reader AI has over the human brain
46. What was the result of the match?
A. Google program beat AlphaGo. B. Lee Sedol won AlphaGo 4-1.
C.Lee Sedol was beaten. D.Neither side won the match.
47.—Why did most people believe Lee would be the winner?
—Because .
A. computers had weaknesses and also got tired
B. AlphaGo only beat a human Go player once
C. the Go game was invented by Chinese people
D. computers were not so smart as a human
48. What does Thomas Johnson probably agree with?
A. AI does better than humans in every situation.
B. It’s hard for AI to beat the human at everything.
C. The development of AI could be harmful one day.
D. AI should be used to help us make difficult decisions.

tick’ sound and found the watch.”

阅读短文,从短文后的五个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。每个选项只能用一次。
Have you seen the cartoons of two penguins(企鹅) on the Internet? They sit on either
side of a small boat. They are friends, but each does something selfish(自私的) which
causes their friend “ship” to sink(沉没).
53 It shows how much people value friendship and
sometimes worry they may lose their friends. 54 A friend is
someone to talk to about your deepest feelings. And with a good friend you will never be
alone.
55 The key to protecting your friend “ship” from sinking
comes down to three simple things: sharing, caring and communicating. Good friends like to
share everything with each other. They share their snacks, they share their knowledge about
schoolwork, sometimes they even share their clothes! 56 They do
whatever they can to make their friends happy. But the most important part of friendship is
communicating.
57 It also means that you keep in touch with your friends
even though they may be in different schools or live far away. Without communication it is
sure to send your friend “ship” to sink into the sea.
A. And good friends also care about each other.
B. The cartoons have become very popular.
C. However, keeping friendship isn’t always easy.
D. Communicating means talking to your friends and being honest with them.
E. A friend is someone you can share your happy and sad moments with.
Ⅶ、阅读填词。(共 10 分, 每小题 1 分)
阅读短文,并选择方框中的词或短语用适当形式填空,每个词或短语最多选用一次,有一项是

Thanks to the development of technology in the past few years, people now can read
news on the Internet quickly. 58 holding a newspaper to read, some people prefer to get
worldwide news on mobile phones, computers and so on. So, does it mean it is the 59
of information technology and newspapers will be replaced(取代)in the future?
On the one hand, many people believe that newspapers will be replaced. Online
news 60 in a minute but newspapers can’t. So, by taking advantage of technology,
people can connect 61 with the world in minutes. What’s more, many people prefer to
read electronic news 62 they think it is not only fast but also cost little. Besides, using
paper means cutting trees. Reading online news can 63 protect trees and save paper.
On the other hand, some people believe that newspapers will still exist( 存 在) in the
future. Firstly, not everyone likes to read online news since some of them think it is bad for
64 . Secondly, the development of high technology is not spread 65 the world. The
online services will only be 66 in developed countries, but not in some other developing
or poor countries. So, people there may still read newspapers.
In short, although it is 67 that electronic news has developed quickly in
the past years, newspapers still play a certain role in our modern life.

Dear Headmaster,
I was on duty yesterday. Now I'm writing to tell you that the school was untidy. Some students threw
rubbish everywhere. Some students drew on the wall. I also found that some girls walked on the grass and
picked flowers. During break time many students ate too much junk food. Many boys spoke quite loudly
and fought with each other. After school, some students forgot to turn off the lights when leaving the
classroom. What's more, a few students even rode their bicycles on the playground. I think we should make
rules to change the situation and care about the environment, then our school will become more beautiful.
Sincerely,

weeks, you’ll have 30 dollars.”
Every week, Jeremy did his chores. He took out the rubbish, swept the floor and
sometimes even brushed the cat. Finally, Jeremy had 30 dollars. He added his 30 dollars
to the 20 in his wallet.
Jeremy and Mom returned to the store. But the computer games were sold out. “I
can’t believe it!” said Jeremy sadly. Then his eyes stopped at a row of shining bikes.
They were 80 dollars each! Jeremy looked at the 50 dollars in his pocket. He looked back
at the bikes, then at Mom.
“Mom, if I keep doing chores, will you keep giving me five dollars every week?”
“Of course!” Mom answered.
