最佳选项, 并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
When my now 19-year-old daughter Shanna was in Grade 3, all of Mrs Mathews’ students were
given a small pot with a bean seed to plant.Green string beans are pretty strong and the perfect seed
to use when promoting green thumbs (园艺技能)in young children.
Once the bean plants had flowered, their teacher allowed the kids to carefully transport it from
school to home.Once home,Shanna looked around for the perfect location and settled on a sunny
south window sill (窗台)and then proudly declared,“Soon I can feed the whole family!”
Shanna’s sisters were jealous and even our cat looked interested, which should have a warning
to me because when I woke up the next morning,I saw that the bean plant had been unkindly
knocked off the window sill. The plant, it seemed, was a goner.
As I gently began to explain that the bean plant had to be put in the compost, her reaction was
not what I expected. She said, “Everything will be OK,Mom;the plant will get better.” She secured
the first aid kit (急救箱)from the bathroom, and a deep belief that the sad looking near-dead bean
plant would live and even produce food!
Days later,to my surprise, the bean plant was standing tall and looking lively. It was also
amazing to see that the one and only bean, had become fleshy almost completely masking the claw
marks that had scarred it. This time we built a castle of heavy books to keep it safe until our day of
reward.
I set the table beautifully for Thanksgiving dinner. The beans were carefully divided by 5,
which awarded each person 2 small pieces, claw marks and all. They turned out to be the best green
beans I had ever eaten!
In my work as a youth motivator I am brought together with kids and teens that all desperately
need people to believe in them. Now, more than ever, no matter what I have been told about a child
or a teen and their behavior, I see everyone, no exceptions, with the same eyes and heart that my
daughter used on her broken, beaten up bean plant

A. the plant might fall off the window sill
B. other children might be jealous of Shanna
C. the cat might make trouble to the bean plant
D. the bean plant might die for lack of sunlight
58. Knowing the plant was broken, Shanna .
A. had to throw it to the compost
B. decided to find out who was to blame
C. gave up the idea of feeding the whole family
D. gave the plant a first aid immediately
59. What lesson did the writer learn from her daughter?
A. Children need to be well taken care of.
B. A child with bad behaviors can become good.
C. Every child is growing like a bean plant.
D. A child is very easy to believe in others.

John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men was originally going to be called
Something That Happened. But in May 1936 his puppy ate the written
manuscript(稿)! This left him with two months work to do over again.
Steinbeck got up at dawn every morning to write. After months of intense
work, the novel was finished by the second week of August 1936, and sent
off to his agent, Elizabeth Otis.
Shortly before it was published, Of Mice and Men was chosen by
the“Book-of-the-Month”Club, guaranteeing it a large audience and big
sales, Steinbeck found the news“gratifying but also frightening.”The book
was a big success; it was published in early February 1937 and by mid
February had sold 117,000 copies. “That’s really a lot of books,”said Steinbeck.
As it leapt into the bestseller lists, it made Steinbeck suddenly a author. He was now a pubic
person, and there were parties in his honor (in New York). But his shyness and need for privacy
made this difficult for him. When he finally got away for a well-earned holiday in Europe,
Steinbeck wrote in a letter: “I just need to get away from being John Steinbeck for a little while.”
Of Mice and Men is a story of loneliness, love, and need, a story of homeless and rootless men
who have nothing or nobody except each other. Steinbeck expresses that everybody gets lonely and
that everybody needs somebody, a friend. Crooks, the black stable hand said it plain and simple,“A
guy needs somebody-to be near him.” He complained, “a guy goes nuts (失去理智)if he ain’t got
nobody. Don’t make no difference who the guy is, I tell ya,” he cried, “I tell ya, a guy gets too
lonely, an he gets sick.”
George’s taking care of Lennie and the dream of the farm are attempts to break the pattern of
loneliness that is part of the human condition. Similarly , Lennie’s desire to pet soft things comes
from his need to feel safe and secure, to touch something that gives him that feeling of not being
alone in the world. For Lennie, the dream of the farm means that security.
Steinbeck reinforces (加强)the theme of loneliness in subtle and not so subtle ways. Near the
farm, for example, is the town of Soledad. The town’s name, not accidentally,
means“solitude”or“alone.” Also, the others’ reactions to George and Lennie traveling together
reinforces that, in Steinbeck’s world, traveling with someone else is unusual.
60. How long has Of Mice and Men been published after it was finished?
A. For two months. B. For three months
C. For about six months. D. For about a year.
61. The underlined word “gratifying” in the second paragraph probably means .
A. indifferent B. disgusting
C. delighting D. ridiculous
62. What cat we learn from the third paragraph?
A. Attending all kinds of parties was Steinbeck’s favorite.
B. In order to find private time, Seinbeck went to Europe.
C. Steinbeck lost himself after he gained the honor in New York.
D. Steinbeck was difficult to get along with because of his shyness.
63. How did Lennie remove his loneliness?
A. By taking care of his friend.
B. By taking about his dream.
C. By working hard make money.
D. By touching something soft.

For me, the most impressive commercial I ever saw was a
diamond commercial. Early in the morning ,a couple of lovers were
standing on a deck(甲板), facing a beautiful lake . The man began the
conversation in a serious tone and said, ”We have been together for a
long time ,and I don’t think we should let our relationship
keep going like this.”
Hearing that ,the girl turned toward the man, an expression of
surprise and sadness appeared on her face. She clearly thought he
wanted to leave her, but then the man presented her a ring which he
had been holding behind his back.
When the girl saw the ring , she smiled like a flower .She realized that he was proposing to her.
Then the film showed their wedding in a church. Both of them were smiling sweetly. I loved that
commercial because the view was so beautiful. In fact , this was a very popular commercial among
young single adults in my country.
Christine Leprince from France
The commercial, I recall, took place on a bus, A girl was
going to enjoy a chocolate bar. Everything around her was quiet.
When she was starting to bite into her bar, there was a terrible
shaking. The girl was surprised, but instead of stopping, she went on
and crunched (咬碎)into it another time. That time, it was like an
earthquake around her. The girl was so greedy that she didn’t care
about what was happening around her.
In my opinion, that TV commercial was very effective. Humor and surprise were combined to
create a funny ad. It seemed that chocolate bar was so delicious that you could forget the world
around you. I believe that many people, especially children, must have liked this commercial and
been influenced to buy that chocolate bar.
64. Why did the girl feel surprised and sad ?

B. Because the man didn’t show her the ring
C. Because she misunderstood the man’s meaning.
D. Because the man spoke in a serious tone
65. What happened when the girl was about to eat the chocolate bar?
A. Everybody became quiet. B. the bus shook violently.
C. An earthquake happened. D. The bus came to a stop.
66. Why did Christine Leprince like the ad?
A.Because it was about chocolate.
B.Because one could forget the world around.
C.Because the chocolate was delicious.
D. Because it combined humor and surprise.
67. What are these two people talking about?
A. Their most impressive commercials.
B. Their most liked products.
C. Different kinds of commercials.
D. The making of commercials.

Watching the Northern Lights shining on the sky’s natural canvas may be on your list already,
but be prepared to up the money.
A developer is creating a floating, snowflaked -shaped glass hotel from which guests can stare
in fear at the Northern Lights from their beds. The project is called Krystall. Eighty-six luxury
rooms will be covered within a glass structure alongside conference rooms and a spa(温泉), all of
which is only accessible by boat.
The stationary (静止的) hotel will be built near in northern Norway reportedly between
bays. It will be constructed, in pieces, in dry docks, before being fit together on location.
Explaining the physics and design of the hotel, Kone Olthuis, Dutch architect and founder of
Waterstudio, a specialist in floating structures, said: “The floating base is very big and because of
that also very stable. You will not notice any movement. Different to any vessel (舰)this hotel is
a floating building and will not move. The shape provides most of the stability but cables are used
to take away any speed.”
“Same look and feel as a land based hotel but then on the most beautiful spot on the water.
The hotel is not connected to land so all the things will be provided by boats.”
According to Mr Olthuis, who wouldn’t tell the actual cost of the project, the budget is 15 per
cent more than it would have been if it were built on land. He said that an important thing to the
hotel’s construction was for its creation to be “scarless”on the perfect environment surrounding it.
“We call it a scarless development. If you take it away after a hundred years or so it will not
leave any physical footprint. That is the only way to bring developments to such a valuable and
beautiful marine environment in Norway.”
It is hoped that the hotel will be “self-supporting sustainable” using top of the range
technology, helping to support the “growing eco-tourism market.”
“Dutch Docklands has learned to live with the water instead of fighting it,” the firm states.
“Floating houses are common in the Netherlands but we took that technology abroad and scale it
up in size.”
68. What do we know about Krystall?
A. It is built as a whole at a time
B. It is designed for enjoying the Northern Lights.

D. It is constructed with glass for every room.

A. how to keep it existing for hundred years
B. how to cause no damage to each piece
C. how to build it with a lot less money
D. how to make it environmentally friendly

One's beliefs are revealed not so much in words as in the assumptions on which one habitually
a c t s a n d i n t h e b a s i c v a l u e s b y w h i c h a l l c h o i c e s a r e t e s t e d .
The foundation of my own value system was laid in childhood with parents who believed that
personal honesty came first. They never asked, ”What will people think?” The question was, “What
will you think of yourself, if you do this or fail to do that?” Thus, living up to one’s own concept of
o n e s e l f b e c a m e a b a s i c v a l u e ,
A second basic value, in some ways an extension of the first, I owe to an old college professor,
who had suffered more than his share of sadness and trouble. Over and over he said to us, “The one
thing that really matters is to be bigger than the things that can happen to you. Nothing that can
happen to you is more important that the was you end it”
Gradually I realized that here was the basis of the only real security and peace of mind that a
human being can have. Nobody can be sure when disaster, disappointment, or injustice may come to
him through no fault of his own. Nor can one be guaranteed against one’s own mistakes and failures.
But the way we meet life is ours to choose. The acceptance of these two basic values led to a third.
If what one is and how one meets life are of first importance, one is not impressed by another's
money, status, or power, nor does one judge people by their race, color, or social position. This
opens up a whole new world of relationships, for when friendships are based on qualities of mind
and character, one can have friends among old and young, rich and poor, famous and unknown,
educated and unlettered, and among people of all races and all nations.
Given these three basic values, a fourth became necessary. It is one's responsibility to help
create a social order. Human beings must have an opportunity for the fullest development of which
they are capable. One is thus led to work for a world of freedom and justice through those social
agencies and institutions which make it possible for people everywhere to realize their highest
potentialities.
Perhaps all these add up to a belief in what has been called the human use of human beings.
When we pray, or feel pity, when we think and reason, pursue ideas, seek truth, or read a book,
when we protect the weak and helpless, when we honor the noble and cherish the good, when we
cooperate with our fellow men to build a better world, our behavior is worthy of our status as human
b e i n g s .
72. What is the most important value according to the author?
A. Face grief and trouble positively.
B. Live up to one’s own conception of oneself
C. Begin a wide relationship with people around.
D. Help create a social order.
73. The underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 probably means .
A. we can choose how to face our life
B. our mind can be peaceful after some failures
C. we can choose our own life
D. each of us can make mistakes sometimes
74. What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph?
A. We might as well help social agencies function well
B. We should think and reason while reading a book
C. We can cooperate to build social institutions
D. When we help those in need and admire the noble, we achieve the human use of human
beings.
75. Where does this text probably come from?
A. Science fiction. B. Children’s literature. C. A magazine D. A news report.

书面表达参考:
As we all know, kindness is a very important part of living. Kindness is not something that can
necessarily be paid back. It doesn't take much to be kind. A smile, a gentle look, a gentle touch on
the arm, and a hug will let people know that you care about them.
Students should learn how to be kind to others. But in what ways? First of all, we should
respect others . Everybody has their own way to do things, so we should understand each
other.Besides, it is important for us to communicate with each other and share our happiness and
sadness. What’s more, we should offer necessary help to those who are in trouble. Then we will feel
very happy.
So why don't you try a random act of kindness? I think you'll like how you feel, and you will
like the results.

W: John, where are the cookies? I can’t find them in the fridge. Don't tell me you ate them
all! Again!
M: Yes, I did. I couldn't help it. They were so good.
W: I thought you didn't like cookies.
M: Well, I don't like cookies flavored with meat at all. But chocolate is different. I love them to
death.
W: Huh, I didn't know that.
M: Well, tell you what, chocolate cookies taste even better with a glass of cold milk.

W: Bye! Have a nice night. You won’t play any loud music, will you? You know I don’t like parties
in my house.
M: Oh no, Mrs. White! Only Mozart and maybe Vivaldi.
W: And of course no alcoholic drinks either!
M: No, certainly not. Only Coca-cola.
W: Good. Well, I won’ be back tonight. I’m staying with my sister. She’s moving to Japan this
Sunday. Goodbye, boys!
M: See you in the morning, Mrs. White!
W: By the way, everybody must go home at 11 o’clock.
M: Oh, all right. Bye.

M: Well done! Congratulations, Kate! All the members of your team run so fast.
W: Thank you. I felt sorry for Peter. He dropped the relay stick.
M: Who won the boy’s high jump? Do you know the result?
W: I don’t know. Oh, just listen to the loudspeaker. It’s announcing the result of the high jump.
M: Ah, John Smith from our class won.
W: Well done! Your class! By the way, who won the girls’ 400 meters race?
M: I’m not sure. Oh, I must go. Next is the boys’ 400 meters race.
W: Good luck to you and your team.
M: Thank you!
Text 9
W: Can I help you?
M: Yes. My sociology class is supposed to read a chapter in a book called Sociology and the
modern age. But I can’t find it.
W: Let me see. Oh yes. It’s on reserve. You need to go to a special room called the reserves room to
read it.
M: I’m sorry. I still don’t understand what you mean by “on reserve”.
W: You see, if one student takes the book from the library, none of the other students will get to
read it. So your professor placed it on reserve.
M: So will I be able to find this book?
W: Yes, you can go to the reserves room and ask the reserve librarian for it.
M: Can I take it out of the reserves room?
W: No. You can have it for a few hours, and you MUST read it in the room.
M: OK. Thank you. I understand now.
W: Is there anything else?
M: NO! I’m on my way to the reserves room. Thanks again!

W: Let’s welcome professor Smith to our school to tell us something about American universities
that offer classes online.
M: Thank you! Today we will discuss how some students are able to stay in their home countries
and still earn degrees abroad.
Many students who take classes online say they like the independence of online education.
Students do not have to sit in classrooms and do not have to attend courses at set times. American
universities have been offering classes online for a number of years.
The University of Phoenix, in Arizona, has been offering such degrees since 1989.University
officials there say they try to provide students with a social experience as well as an educational
one.
Jones International University in Colorado describes itself as the first fully-online accredited
university, and has been so since 1993. The university offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Another online school is Cardean University in Illinois. It began in the year 2000, and offers a
Master of Business Administration degree. It says its courses can be completed in as few as
twenty-two months.
Educational advisers say that before you enter any program you should make sure the degree is
recognized in your country.
