The year 2015 saw another boom in TV drama adaptations of online literature. Despite
the difficulty of adapting original works, these popular novels on the Internet were screened
one by one. Some enjoyed a great success while some were criticized by the audiences.
My Sunshine
My Sunshine is a TV drama adapted from Gu Man's novel of the same title. It stars
Wallace Chuang and Tang Yan, premiering (初次上演) in January, 2015.The drama portrays a
man and a woman's reunion and long-lasting romance after seven years of separation. The
novel itself has been popular on the Internet and was published in 2003.Wallace Chuang soon
rose to become a romantic icon among female viewers because of the role he played in the
adaptation, presenting an ideal image of lover to the audiences.
The Lost Tomb
The Lost Tomb is an action and adventure TV adaption of a popular online novel by Xu
Lei. This is the first seasonal online TV series in China and the novel is scheduled to be
dramatized in eight seasons, one season for each year. The first season was released in June of
2015.The novel series of the same name is about several people's adventure in ancient tombs,
and it has enjoyed a wide readership since it was released online in 2006.Thus the adapted TV
series had been accordingly highly expected by its fans but turned out to be disappointing.
Although there were 24,000,000 hits on the web within the first two minutes of its debut (首
次 上 演 ), the season was later criticized by the audiences for its weak storyline and poor
quality. Some lines of the series even became jokes on the social media.
Nirvana in Fire
Nirvana in Fire is also adapted from an online novel of the same name written by Hai
Yan, the adaptation for the first time found its way on the screen in September 2015.Staring
Hu Ge and Liu Tao, the series shows a talented military strategist endeavoring to clear his
name through continuous fights. The fictional characters and dynasty let the adaptation
smartly avoid being criticized for not sticking to historical accuracy. And the drama’s delicate
internal setting and faultless storyline were highly praised by the audiences.
Hua Xu Yin
Hua Xu Yin is about a princess who sacrificed her life for the country but later was saved
and began her own adventures with another name. It is also a TV series adaptation of an
online novel of the same title written by Tang Qi. The series premiered in July 2015, staring
Lin Yuan and Zheng Jiaying. However, it did not get as much attention as its rivals.
According to the online critics, the lead roles and their costumes were not appealing enough
in the adaptation.

I'd been asked to go to an editor's office with the old program “We have a story we think
you'd be perfect for”. Here was the topic: We want you to write about how middle-aged men
have no friends. Seeing that, I couldn't help thinking, “Excuse me? I have plenty of friends.”
Then the editor told me there were all sorts of evidence out there to show how men, as they
age, let their close friendships go, and that the fact can cause all sorts of problems and have a
terrible impact on their health.
As I walked back to my desk in the newsroom-a distance of maybe 100 yards-I quickly
took stock of my friend list. First of all, there was my friend Mark. Wait, how often do we
actually hang out? Maybe four or five times a year? And then there was another best friend
from high school, Rory, and…I actually could not remember the last time I'd seen him.

because I was unusual in any way, but because my story was very, very typical. And as I

和第三段“but as I ran down the list of those I considered real,

The problem of robocalls (自动语言电话) has gotten so bad that many people now
refuse to pick up calls from numbers they don't know. By next year, half of the calls we
receive will be scams(欺诈).We are finally waking up to the seriousness of the problem by
supporting and developing a group of tools, apps and approaches intended to prevent
scammers from getting through. Unfortunately, It’s too little, too late. By the time these
"solutions" become widely available, scammers will have moved into cleverer means. In the
near future, it's not just going to be number you see on your screen that will be in doubt. Soon
you will also question whether the voice you're hearing is actually real.
That's because there are a number of powerful voice processing and automation
technologies that are about to become widely available for anyone to use. At this year's I/O
Conference, a company showed a new voice technology able to produce such a persuasive
human-sounding voice that it was able to speak to a receptionist and book a reservation
without being found.
These developments are likely to make our current problems with robocalls much worse.
The reason why robocalls are a headache has less to do with amount than accurateness. A
decade of data violation of personal information has led to a solution where scammers can
easily learn your mother's name, and far more. Armed with this knowledge, they're able to
carry out individually targeted campaigns to cheat people. This means, for example, that a
scammer could call you from what looks to be a familiar number and talk to you using a
voice that sounds exactly like your bank teller's, tricking you into "confirming" your address,
mother's name, and card number. Scammers follow money, so companies will be the worst hit.
A lot of business is still done over the phone, and much of it is based on trust and existing
relationships. Voice processing technologies may weaken that gradually.
We need to deal with the insecure nature of our telecom networks. Phone consumers
need to work together to find ways of determining and communicating what is real. That
might mean either developing a uniform way to mark videos and images, showing when and
who they were made by, or abandoning phone calls altogether and moving towards
data-based communications-using apps like FaceTime or WhatsApp, which can be lied to
your identity.
Reliability is hard to earn but easy to lose, and the problem is only going harder from now on.
8. How does the author feel about the solutions to the problem of robocalls?
A. Panicked. B. Confused. C. Embarrassed. D. Disappointed.
9. Taking advantage of the new technologies, scammers can____________?
A. aim at victims accurately B. damage databases easily
C. start campaigns rapidly D. spread information widely
10. What does the passage want to say______________?
A. Honesty is the best quality.
B. Technologies can be double-edged.
C. There are more solutions than problems.
D. Reliability holds the key to development.
11. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. Where the Problem of Robocalls Is Rooted
B. Who is to Blame for the Problem of Robocalls
C. Why Robocalls Are About to Get More Dangerous
D. How Robocalls Are Affecting the World of Technology
We are finally waking up to the severity of the problem
by supporting and developing a group of tools, apps and approaches intended to prevent
scammers from getting through. Unfortunately, it’s too little, too late. By the time these
“solutions”(解决方案) become widely available, scammers will have moved onto cleverer
means.
The reason that rob calls are a headache has less to do
with amount than precision. A decade of data breaches(数据侵入) of personal information
has led to a situation where scammers can easily learn your mother’s name, and far more.
Armed with this knowledge, they’re able to carry out individually targeted campaigns to
cheat people. This means, for example, that a scammer could call you from what looks to be a
familiar number and talk to you using a voice that sounds exactly like your bank tellers,
tricking you into “confirming” your address, mother’s name, and card number.
故选 A 项。
At this year’s I/O Conference, a company showed
a new voice technology able to produce such a convincing human-sounding voice that it was
able to speak to a receptionist and book a reservation without detection.

D
Anyone who pays attention to fitness trends likely has heard the term "muscle
confusion". It was invented and popularized in the past decade by the creators of various
weight-training programs, particularly P90X.
P90X advises participants to adjust their routines all the time, threading in different
combinations of exercises and rarely, if ever, repeating any particular workout. The theory for
the inconstancy is that unfamiliar routines should perplex our bodies and muscles and prevent
them from getting into a settled state. Instead, our muscles supposedly will respond to the
unfamiliar demands of the workouts by continuing to adapt.
That idea has some appeal and many supporters but little independent scientific backing.
So,for a new study, which was published in PLOS One, a group of researchers from Spain
and the United States who long had been interested in the impacts and specifics of resistance
training decided to try to confuse a few muscles and see what would happen.
They divided 19 healthy young men who already lifted weights into two groups, after
testing their muscles' size and strength and completing an online questionnaire about their
interest in and motivation for exercise.
Then one group began a standard, weight-training routine, performing the same
exercises in the same order each week. The other group, though, did a different workout each
session, picking exercises randomly from database of 80. These routines continued for eight
weeks at a university gym, after which the men returned to the lab for new muscle tests and a
repeat of the online questionnaire.
The researchers then compared results and, quite unexpectedly, found that it is no easy
job to make muscles feel confused since overall the men’s gains in muscular size and strength
were almost exactly the same. Our muscles are not discouraged by unvarying routines, says
Brad Schoenfeld, a co-author of the study.
There was one notable difference between the groups, however. Those men completing
the ever-changing workouts reported showing more enthusiasm for exercise at the study’s end
than the other group. “The differences in drive scores at the end were significant.” he says,
suggesting that “from a purely motivational standpoint, variety matters.”
12. What does the underlined word “perplex” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Pull. B. Strengthen. C. Confuse. D. Relax
13. What was the major difference between the two groups during the research?
A. Whether their workouts varied.
B. Whether they received two muscle tests.
C. Whether exercises were completed at a gym.
D. Whether they lifted the same amount of weight
14. What did the researchers conclude from their study?
A. It is simple to confuse our muscles
B. Men dislike ever-changing workouts
C. Regular exercise makes one feel enthusiastic
D. Changing workouts helps improve motivation
15. Which would be the best title for the text?
A. Will muscle confusion work? B. How to build your muscles?
C. Will P90X benefit health? D. How to do our workout?
The theory for the inconstancy
再由后面的 prevent them from getting into a settled state or reaching a training plateau 及下
一段中的 try to confuse a few muscles 以及下文中的例子可知,C 项正确。
13. A。 Then one group began a standard, weight-training routine,
performing the same exercises in the same order each week. The other group, though, did a
different workout each session, picking exercises randomly
Those men completing the ever - changing workouts
reported showing more enthusiasm for exercise at the study's end than the other group 可知,

Some of my earliest memories involve sitting with my dad in his study every night when
he came home from the office. I’d watch as he put his personal items away: his watch, wallet,
comb and car keys would always occupy the same spot on the table every time. It was as if he
could see invisible lines drawn specifically for these things, not a centimetre more or less.
Dad’s comb was jade green. I heard he bought it when he married Mum, which made the
comb two years older than I was. Every night, he would smile, hand me the comb and say:
“Be a good girl and help Daddy clean it, OK?”
I was more than happy to do it. At age five this ordinary task brought me such joy. I
would excitedly turn the tap on, then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I
could. Satisfied that I’d done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would
smile at me, and place the comb on top of his wallet.
About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I
started primary school. That was when things started to change. Dad's business wasn’t doing
so well, and our stable life started getting shaky. He didn’t come home as much as he used to
--- just a couple of times a week. And when he did come home, it was always late and I'd
already be in bed. I started to get mad. Why didn’t he listen to Mum and just stick to his old
job? Why take the risk and place the whole family in trouble? Over the years, I stopped
waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to check on him.
Today, I’m no longer a kid. Now 28, I’ve graduated from college and got a job. Dad’s
business has also started to get back on track. Things are better now. Yet the uncomfortable
silence between Dad and me continued.

Paragraph 1:
Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early.
___________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
When I passed the clean comb back to Dad, I noticed the wrinkles next to his eyes.
___________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________________
Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. As usual, I helped him
carry his bags into his study. When I turned to leave, he said: “Hey, would you like to help me
clean my comb? It's been a while since I last cleaned.” It reminded me the time when, as a
child, helping my dad clean his comb was such a joy. That routine meant that my dad was
home early to spend the evening with Mum and me. It meant he would watch TV with us or
play a few video games with me. It meant a happy and loving family.
When I passed the clean comb back to Dad, I noticed the wrinkles next to his eyes. They
were more noticeable when he smiled, but his smile was still as heartwarming as before. The
smile of a father who just wanted a good life for his family. Dad carefully placed his comb on
top of his wallet. After so many years, he still organized his personal items in the same careful
way. I guess some things never change. And for that, I'm more than glad.
