“Once there was a ship travelling on the tough sea and on the ship there was a pair of couple. All of a sudden,
the ship met with an accident and the couple had no choice but to run to the life boat without delay. After reaching
there, they realized that there was space only for one person. At that very moment, the husband pushed his wife
behind him and jumped onto the lifeboat himself, leaving his wife standing on the sinking ship, shouting something
desperately to her husband eyes filled with tears.”
The teacher stopped her story-telling and asked her students, “Guys, guess what it was that she shouted.”
Most students answered. “I hate you!”
After listening to all this reply, the teacher glanced through the whole class again and noticed that there was a
boy sitting silently throughout. Then she asked him the same question.
The boy answered, “I believe she would have shouted-Take care of our child.”
Listening to his remarks, the teacher was surprised and asked the boy doubtfully. “Have you heard of this
story before?”
Shaking his head, the boy said softly and sadly, “No, I haven’t. But that’s what my mother said to my father
before she died of a deadly disease.”
Moved and feeling sad, the teacher replied. “Your answer is absolutely right!”
Then she continued, “Let’s take up the story. The ship sank eventually and the husband went home and
brought up their daughter alone. Many years later after the death of the man, their daughter was tidying up all his
belongings when she found his diary. In his diary she found that when her parents were on the ship, her mother had
already been diagnosed (诊断) with advanced illness and at the critical moment, the father rushed to the only
chance of survival.”

写作:
In his diary, the man mentioned he wished to sink to the ocean with his wife but for their daughter he had to
live. Without him, their baby daughter would become an orphan. After drowning himself in sorrow for a short time,
he uplifted himself and learned how to raise baby. Whenever faced with hardships, he would inspire himself with
his wife’ words—“Take care of our child.” Seeing the little girl grow into a sunny, pretty girl with double love from
both parents, the man knew he made it to keep his promise.
The story was finished and the class was silent. Nobody talked or laughed as usual. Instead, it seemed that
every student was lost in deep thought, tasting the moving life story. The teacher was sure that the students were
reflecting on their replies and that they had understood the moral of the story. Of the Good and Evil in this world,
there are hidden secrets behind them. So we should not really focus on the surface and judge anyone without
understanding them first. Put yourself in others’ shoes and then you can really understand their behavior.

“I will have revenge(复仇) on him, and make him regret what he did to me,” said Philip to himself, his face
red with anger. Stephen, who happened at that moment to walk past and hear him talking to himself.
“Who is that you want to take revenge on?” asked Stephen. Philip looked at his friend and said, “You
remember my new ball given by my father? Look! It is punctured! It was farmer Robinson’s son who did this!”
Stephen asked him why young Robinson had ruined it. “I was walking and kicking my ball.” Philip replied,
“By accident, when I was opposite the gate, my ball bumped over a bucket of water left in the pathway by him.”
“He came up and began to yell at me. I assured him that what I had done was an accident, and that I was
terribly sorry for it. I also offered to fetch another bucket of water for him. But despite all I had said, he took a nail
out of his pocket and twisted it into the ball, as you see. I will make him pay for this.”
“Honestly speaking,” said Stephen, “he is already punished for what he has done, because nobody likes him
and he often walks around alone. He is just a lonely and miserable boy. This will be enough revenge for you.”
“But the ball is my favorite gift and I enjoy playing with it so much…” murmured Philip.
“Now Philip,” said Stephen, “I think you can act better than him in terms of getting revenge. I will tell you
what happened to him not long ago.”
“A while ago he saw a bee hovering about a flower. He caught the bee and was going to pull off its wings for
fun. The bee, of course, stung him. The pain made him so angry that, like you, he decided to get revenge. He got a
stick, and pressed it into the beehive (蜂巢).”
“Immediately the whole swarm of bees flew out and stung him so badly that he had to spend a few days in
bed.”
“So you see, he was not very successful in getting revenge. What if he could act better and forgive the bee for
stinging him?” asked Stephen.
Paragraph 1:

写作:
“I must say,” replied Philip, “that your advice seems very good. So come with me please, and I will tell my
father what happened to the ball, and I think he will not be angry with me.” They went, and Philip told his father
what had happened. He thanked Stephen for the good advice he had given his son, and promised Philip to give him
another ball exactly the same as the first.
A few days afterwards, Philip saw this young Robinson fall as he was carrying home a heavy log of wood. It was
too heavy for him to lift up again. Philip ran to him, and helped him to put it on his shoulder again. The boy was
embarrassed to be treated so kindly when he had ruined Philip’s ball the week before! He said that he was very
sorry for his behavior. Philip went home quite happy. “This,” he said,“ is the best revenge I could take, in returning
good for bad.”

I am a frequent interstate traveler. I was bo rn in Ontario, Canada and thus all my family except my
husband and children live there. So three times a year I make a trip north from Georgia to visit. I often travel by
myself as my children are all grown and my husband is working.
Two years ago I went up in the spring and brought one of my sisters south for a month to take away the pains
of a long winter. This year I did the same. It is interesting that many of my friends have said "Aren't you scared?" or
"What if you break down?”. I always respond that I have a lot of faith in the Lord and in myself. My husband is a
mechanic and each year gives my 230,000+ miles car a good checkup. He will come for me if I need help.
Here is how my miracle happened on Interstate 85 North in South Carolina. Heading north to take my sweet
sister of 63 home to Canada, we were chatting away and I was driving 70 miles per hour in the third lane over. Yes,
the fastest lane. All of a sudden, I started to lose power. I said anxiously I was losing power and got over to the next
and then the right lane, I was driving at about 40 miles per hour when I got to the first exit. I finally arrived at a
Citgo station and pulled off the road.
I immediately called my husband and he didn't answer. I was thinking he never answered his phone. I called 2
more times saying please answer the phone to myself. I was getting pretty upset thinking what I should do. I got out
of the car and looked under it and smelled gas. Then* I checked the oil and water. Luckily, both were good! My
sister went into the gas station and said to the clerk if he knew anyone who could help us and then said pray for us
as she made her way to the rest room.

I was standing by my car when a man with broken English suddenly appeared. He said if he could he would
help me. I said I thought there was a gas leak because I smelled it. He got under the car, and 2 minutes later, he slid
out and said it was all fixed. He asked me to start it up and see if it worked well. Actually, at first, I was a little
skeptical. But I did as he said. To my delight and relief, my car did indeed roar to life and had power.
I thanked my rescuer and asked him if I could pay him for his help. He shook his head instantly and politely
refused my offer. I thanked the nice man again and gave him a big hug. My heart was full and said he was a
blessing in my life. His face lit up and had a beautiful smile. My sister and I were both teary eyed and extremely
grateful. There are so many stories of rudeness and unkindness to others but I have been blessed many times by
kind and helpful people.

It had been one of those days when nothing goes right. I was due at work at 8 o’clock, but I was ten minutes
late because I overslept. I went straight to my regular post – the toy department. It was two days before Christmas
and the department was a mess. It caused me to think back to the time when I enjoyed Christmas. That was two
years ago, before I went work here.
Somehow since that time, Christmas didn’t mean much anymore, except more work and headaches. The
whole day, I was cursed, yelled at and stepped on. And I still had to finish my Christmas shopping that evening. I
had just finished explaining to a man why we didn’t sell firecrackers, when I felt a tug on my arm.
It was one of the two kids I had been keeping an eye on for a while --- security told us to watch kids for
stealing. He and his little sister had been looking at the “discount” counter, where we had all the cheapest toys.
Before I even bent down to listen to him, I checked around for his sister. I didn’t see her.
“Mister, do you think this would be a good present for my little sister?” he said in a broken accent, holding up
a bottle of soap bubble liquid. “I don’t want her to know about it,” he whispered before I could even answer.
I just agreed with him. He stuck his hand in the pocket of his dirty jeans and pulled out a fistful of change,
asking if he had enough money to pay for it. “It looks like you’ll have to try to find something else,” I said. “You
need ten more cents.” I doubted it was a trick, especially at Christmas. He looked sad and went back to find
something else.
I watched him from the corner of my eye for a while as he looked at other items, but always came back to the
soap bubbles. I left the area for a few minutes and when I came back he was still there, trying to find a cheaper gift.
Somehow, the kid struck me as different from most the troublemakers we got in the toy department.

I went over to him and asked if he had found any thing yet. He just shook his head and looked very
disappointed. “Well, let’s see how much money you have again,” I said. He dumped the change in with the two
dimes I had concealed in my hand. “Well, look it here!” I said, “I must have counted wrong before –you have just
enough for those soap bubbles.” His smile spread out to his ears again, and he headed for the checkouts.
I followed him secretly to what he really spent the money on. He went through the line with the one item and
a smile, then met his sister outside. He kept the bag tightly clenched in his fist so his sister couldn’t see what he had
bought for her with his last pennies. Somehow the rest of the day went much better, and when I went to buy
Christmas presents that night I looked for gifts instead of obligations. For the first time in three years I had
Christmas spirit again, but I got some really odd looks from my family when I came home with soap bubbles.

Christmas Day was coming. I was just a kid then, and my big sister told me there was no Santa Claus.
I fled to my Grandma because she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told me the
truth. Grandma was home, and I told her everything. She was ready for me. “No Santa Claus !” She
shouted. “Ridiculous! Don’t believe it.” That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes
me mad, plain mad.
“Now, put on your coat, and let’s go.”
“Go where, Grandma?” I asked. “Where” turned out to be Kerby’s General Store, the one store in
town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed
me ten dollars. “Take this money, ” she said, “and buy something for someone who needs it. I’ll wait
for you in the car.” Then she turned and walked out of Kerby’s.
I was only eight years old. I’d often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for
anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people competing to finish their
Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, holding that ten-dollar bill,
wondering what to buy and who to buy it for. I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker, who was a kid
with bad breath and messy hair. He sat right behind me in Mrs Pollock’s grade-two class. Bobby
Decker didn’t have a coat. I knew that because he never went out for recess(休息) during the
winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but we kids knew
that Bobby Decker didn’t have a cough, and he didn’t have a coat. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat!
I settled on a red one, which looked really warm, and he would like that.
“Is this a Christmas present for someone?” the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten
dollars down. “Yes.”
The nice lady smiled at me, put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.
