【2021·浙江 1 月】阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Pumpkin (南瓜) carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October. In the pumpkin
field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. My dad has a rule that we have to
carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an advantage-I carried an 85-pounder back last year.
This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother, Jason, was the winner.
Unfortunately we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of
us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my mom filming the annual event. I’m unsure now why I thought
forcing my head inside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time.
With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At
first I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling to quit, my nose briefly prevented
entry. Finally I managed to put my whole head into it, like a cork (软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten
up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders.
My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. “I’m going to set it down, now,” I said, and with Jason
helping to support its weight,I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest. It was only when I tried to remove
my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When I pulled hard, my nose
got in the way. I got into a panic as I pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right
angle, but it was no use. “I can’t get it out!” I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space.

Paragraph 1
It was five or six minutes though it felt much longer.
Paragraph 2
The video was posted the Monday before Halloween.
【答案】Paragraph 1
It was five or six minutes though it felt much longer. Dad was summoned – less, it seemed, in expectation of
practical help than to make sure he didn’t miss out on the spectacle. I heard him propose calling the fire department.
“Stay tuned,” said Mom; she’d mentioned she was going to upload the video to Facebook, but it was only then I
realized she’d been filming the whole time. The video cuts before my rescue —Dad got me to push my head farther
into the pumpkin so Mom could reach in and undo the rubber band round my ponytail. I emerged with
squash-conditioned hair, a sore chin and my nose plugged with pulp.
Paragraph 2
The video was posted the Monday before Halloween. By the end of that day, it had over 1,000 views. People asked
Mom to put it on YouTube, and by Wednesday morning we were getting 5:00 am calls from TV breakfast shows and
then the international media – the video started racking up hundreds of thousands of views. When I went on a youth
camp, I was recognized by children I’d never met. The pumpkin also became a minor celebrity. Passersby and
trick-or-treaters would knock and ask, “Which is Rachel’s pumpkin?” before taking selfies with it.

The Meredith family lived in a small community. As the economy was in decline, some people in the town had lost
their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to make ends meet. People were trying to help each other meet the
challenges.
Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew
they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.
One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed, his
wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy. The little boy -his name was Bernard-had
interested her very much.
“I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such a help to his mother.
He wants very much to earn some money, but I don't see what he can do.”
After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we could help him to earn
money,” said Clara. “His family is suffering so much.”
“So do I,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.”
For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried, “I have a great idea! I have a
solution that we can all help accomplish(完成).”
The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure to be a good one. “I tell you
what we can do,” said John. “You know that big box of corn Uncle John sent us? Well, we can make popcorn(爆米花),
and put it into paper bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.”

When Mrs. Meredith heard of John’s idea, she thought it was a good one, too. So, they went to the local
supermarket together. They bought a bag of corn and some special bags for popcorn. When they got home, they made a
lot of popcorn and put it in the special bags. With the popcorn, they went to Bernard’s home. They told Bernard how to
sell the popcorn. Bernard and his parents were very grateful. And the Meredith family also felt very happy to help this
family.
With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. He took the popcorn around to the houses and
sold all his popcorn. He earned a lot of money. Then, he wanted to be self-dependent. Therefore, he asked Mrs.
Meredith to teach him how to make popcorn. After that, not only did he sell popcorn, but he also added cream and salt
to the popcorn to make it taste better. Bernard grew up to be a remarkable man. He did not forget the help of Meredith’s
family, and he also did what he could to help those in need.

Paragraph 1:When Mrs. Meredith heard of John's idea, she thought it was a good one, too. She was so surprised
and happy that her children went much farther than herself. She said, “It’s much better to teach Bernard to fish than to
give him fish, you guys may do whatever you can with the plan to help Bernard and his family.” With mom’s approval,
John got to prepare the oven, Harry went to check the corn that Uncle John sent them, while Clara made the best use of
her legs to tell Bernard their plan, hoping he would accept their kindness. Having heard the plan, Bernard’s blue eyes
turned watery with happiness and gratitude.
Paragraph 2: With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. Every afternoon after school,
Bernard went to the Meredith family picking the bagged-popcorn and went to the town theatre, and he would always
put a sign beside him saying, “Home is sweet, mine is bitter with a sick dad and a nursing mom...” Almost all
film-goers bought Bernard’s popcorn when passing by, —Bernard made 8 to 11 dollars each night. With this, Bernard
could go home with medicine for his father. Months later his father could leave his sick-bed and walk around. Bernard’s
sign was rewritten as followed: “Home is sweet, mine is too, thank you all.”

【2020·浙江卷】阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
One fall,my wife Elli and I had a single goal: to photograph polar bears. We were staying at a research camp
outside “the polar bear capital of the world”-the town of Churchill in Manitoba,Canada.
Taking pictures of polar bears is amazing but also dangerous. Polar bears-like all wild animals-should be
photographed from a safe distance. When I'm face to face with a polar bear,I like it to be through a camera with a
telephoto lens. But sometimes, that is easier said than done. This was one of those times.
As Elli and I cooked dinner,a young male polar bear who was playing in a nearby lake sniffed, and smelled our
garlic bread.
The hungry bear followed his nose to our camp, which was surrounded by a high wire fence. He pulled and bit the
wire. He stood on his back legs and pushed at the wooden fence posts.
Terrified,Elli and I tried all the bear defense actions we knew. We yelled at the bear, hit pots hard, and fired blank
shotgun shells into the air. Sometimes loud noises like these will scare bears off. Not this polar bear though-he just kept
trying to tear down the fence with his massive paws(爪子).
I radioed the camp manager for help. He told me a helicopter was on its way,but it would be 30 minutes before it
arrived. Making the best of this close encounter(相遇),I took some pictures of the bear.
Elli and I feared the fence wouldn't last through 30 more minutes of the bear's punishment. The camp manager
suggested I use pepper spray. The spray burns the bears' eyes, but doesn't hurt them. So I approached our uninvited
guest slowly and, through the fence, sprayed him in the face. With an angry roar(吼叫),the bear ran to the lake to wash
his eyes.

Paragraph 1: A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp. He exposed his sharp teeth, glaring at us as he
ran forward. And again the bear stood on his back legs, wanting to snap at the fence like a monster. It seemed that his
mouth was full of blood and his eyes were red with anger. Seeing such terrible sight, I could feel a coldness flooding
from my back. Ellis was stunned there, with the mouth widely open. I had to take action, so I picked my courage and
tried to frighten him away with the pepper spray, but finally failed.
Paragraph 2: At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. It landed near our camp and its loud noises scared the bear.
He looked irritated and charged at us again. I cried out, “Watch out!” We instantly stepped away and ran as fast as we
could to the helicopter. Thank My God! We succeeded in climbing onto to the helicopter, gasping with relief. Looking
down at the bear, we found that he was eating the bread we just made. Several hours later, we arrived at home safe and
sound, but we realized that we should do something to help the bears.

It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a
trip to the Wild West.
We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late
afternoon. Uncle Paul, my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos.
His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the
night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the
morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. "The day starts at dawn on my farm," he said. After breakfast, I
went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze(吃草). I
was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.
In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I
wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses,
and headed slowly towards the mountains. "Don’t be late for supper," Uncle Paul cried, "and keep to the track so that
you don’t get lost!" "OK! " my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so
peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to
create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven(编织的) blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.
Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse.

【答案】One possible version:
Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse. My horse turned to the left to avoid the little rabbit as I held on
tightly and tried not to fall. Then my dad turned around and shouted, “Hold on!” All of a sudden the horse began to run.
My dad tried to keep up behind us. For a few minutes my horse slowed down to a trot and then stopped beside a river. I
looked around and realized that we were way off the track.
We had no idea where we were and it got dark. Luckily the stars came out and gave us a little light when we were
looking for the way to the farm house. After what must have been several hours, we suddenly heard the sound of sheep
in the distance. My dad and I both rode our horses towards the sound of the sheep. As we got closer we saw Uncle Paul
with a flashlight waving us over. What a night!

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska
with his friends. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and
they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled (骑行) along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young
daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday.
Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “Man, that's a big dog!” he thought. But when he looked to
the side, he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all, but a wolf, quickly catching up with him.
Mac’s heart jumped. He found out his can of hear spray. With one hand on the bars, he fired the spray at the wolf.
A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac's relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by
his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac's bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and
again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase(追赶)。
Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to show down. He saw a
steep uphill climb before him. He knew that z once he hit the hill, he’d be easy caught up and the wolf’s teeth
would be tearing into his flesh.
At this moment, Paul and Beeky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it when
they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a
dog running alongside a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large
vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now.

【答案】The car abruptly stopped in front of him. Paul and Becky got out of the car immediately to give the help. With
nothing on the hand, they didn't dare to fight against the wolf. However, they still approached to the wolf bravely. At
the same time, the wolf also noticed them and turned its head back, howling angrily towards Paul and Becky. Mac then
jumped off the bicycle and was ready to fight against the wolf. Then came the deadlock.
A few minutes later, the other two cyclists arrived. They found the dangerous situation, where three men circled the
wolf. Mac's friends also jumped off their bicycles and joined the fight with the wolf. More and more cars stopped.
Some drivers took out the sticks from the cars, and some took out the knives, even the guns towards the wolf. In the
meanwhile, the wolf might feel the people's threats around, so it began to step back slowly. Soon, it ran away off the
road and disappeared in the distance.

My wife, Megan, and I went out to dinner with an old friend who we had not seen in a while. There had been some
talk of COVID-19 (新型冠状病毒)on the news, but it was early in the outbreak and people were still going about
their daily routines. Even though everyone in our group felt perfectly fine, we took precautions(预防):We washed our
hands with soap , did not share food and had no significantly close contact.
A few days later, our friend called and told us that she had tested positive for the coronavirus. She had felt some
mild symptoms(症状)for a day or so after that dinner and was able to be tested because she is a doctor. On the
following day, started to feel a little tired and my head was a bit cloudy. I decided to stay in the master bedroom away
from the rest of my family. The next morning. I woke up with a 39-degree fever. That was when we realized that I
might have caught the virus from our friend.
At once, Megan called our state's coronavirus hotline, who then called in our primary care doctor and the head of
our local hospital system's coronavirus team. We explained that we had been in contact with someone who had been
tested positive, and I was having symptoms. They quickly approved me to receive a test at an urgent care center located
five minutes' drive from my house. The result made my heart sank — I was also tested positive, and the local hospital
wasn't equipped with the facilities to treat my disease. As a mild case, I was recommended to stay at home and
quarantine (隔离)myself.
Following the doctor's advice, Megan and I quarantined ourselves and our children. With my developed
symptoms , I started isolation in the bedroom, and the only interaction I had with Megan was when she brought in food.
Megan slept on a small couch in our home office away from the kids' rooms. She also minimized her contact with our
kids in case she was carrying the virus.

【答案】We decided to call everyone we had been in contact with over the course of the past week. Megan insisted that
we should let them know that I had tested positive. Hard as it was to inform people that we might have given them the
coronavirus, it was the responsible thing to do. To our pleasant surprise, all of our friends showed their understanding
and support upon hearing the news. To cheer us up, one of my wife's best friends even baked a cake with the letters
"Stay strong" on it and delivered it to our front door.
Though worried about the seriousness of the virus. I knew I had to be brave. I made sure to get plenty of rest and
did some exercise to stay as healthy as I could. I also managed to ease the worries of Megan and our kids during our
quarantine by spending more time doing online video-chats with them. Within the following week, my fever started to
fade and I could feel my head clearing. The next test showed a cheering result. It came back negative. Had it not been
for the love and care from those around me, I wouldn't have made it.

写两段,使之构成一篇完整的 短文。
Grady and his family go camping every summer. As it was becoming hotter, here came the camping time.
Having planned the camp long, the family finally decided the destination --- the Great National Forest. With food,
necessity and cookers loaded onto the car, the family squeezed into the car. The car door closed, heat was shut outside.
In the car, Jared, Grady's younger brother was playing with a toy dinosaur, making great noise. Grady's mother
talked excitedly with his father. On settling in the car, Grady put on the earphone and turned on the music. He neither
wanted to join his brother nor joined any talk. After what seemed to be hours, the car stopped where they headed. Grady
threw down his backpack and slammed the car door.
“This will be a lengthy week,“ he said unhappily to no one in particular. He looked around the campground.
Hundreds of tall and green fir trees, some as tall as church towers, covered the mountainside like a green carpet. The
sun would be setting soon. Grady thought maybe the heat wouldn't be unbearable. But actually now in the mountain,
the hot stickiness of July was closely attached to him.
Grady hated camping, but it was something his family stuck to every summer. His father liked cooking over an
open air, telling stories about how to survive things like bear attacks and bites of bees. His mother and Jared liked to
hike and take pictures of animals. Jared had a collection of bug pictures that he had pinned to the walls in his half of
their room. Grady thought they were just scary and proof that Jared was a strange kid.
They set up camp - two tents, one for his parents and one for himself and Jared. While everyone else started
preparing dinner, Grady, looking for some place to cool down, set off for the nearby stream, which was deep enough to
swim in.

【答案】As Grady got close to the stream, an adorable bear cub caught his eye. Though Grady didn’t like animals, he
couldn’t resist such a lovely bear cub measuring no more than two feet tall with a cute face. It was playing pretty
joyfully at the edge of the stream. So absorbed was the bear cub in playing that it wasn’t aware that someone was
approaching. Driven by curiosity, Grady walked on tiptoe, moving closer to have a look at it. Suddenly he heard a
sound behind him.
Turning around, he saw an angry bear moving swiftly towards him. Shocked and dumb, Grady was rooted onto the
ground for seconds, and then dashed to their camp desperately, shouting for help in the meantime. Fortunately, Grady’s
father heard the shout in time to come to his assistance. To their surprise, realizing the danger was away, the furry giant
stopped chasing and returned to the stream, picking up her baby, and holding it in arms tightly. In the distance, attracted
by the noise, Jared and his mother were trying to take a photo of the bear cub and its mother.
