Text 1
M: Excuse me, I’ve been all over the building looking for the Chemistry office but I could only find
the Chinese and Geography office. Is this the right place?
W: Yes, this is the Chemistry office.
Text 2
M: Good afternoon, City Police Station. Can I help you?
W: Oh, hello, I’d like to report a man not wearing a mask here.
M: Just a minute and I’ll put you through.
Text 3
W: Hi there, Martin. How are you going with your report?
M: I’ve finished it actually. After some consideration, I decided to look at the Chinese traditional
Double Ninth Festival.
W: Lucky you. I’m still trying to find an interesting topic.
Text 4
W: You are from Indonesia, Luki. How do you find Suzhou?
M: Well, I like it here. I think the city is very beautiful.
W: What about your accommodation? Is that OK?
M: Yes, OK. At first I stayed with a family for three months. They were very kind to me but they had
two naughty boys and I found it difficult to study.
Text 5
W: Darling, what do you think of this street?
M: Good. It’s quiet and calm. And the neighbors don’t party on the weekends.
W: Yes, everything is okay except the Blacks’ dog often barks.
Text 6
W: Hey, Jim. I heard you traveled to Paris last year. How was it?
M: Absolutely amazing. I’ll show you pictures taken in Paris if you come to my house this
afternoon.
W: Great. What did you visit?
M: I visited many tourist attractions: museums, churches, parks and palaces.
W: Wow! I’ll go to Paris on business next month. What should I pay attention to?
M: Umm… The traffic is horrible. Plan out your route before you go. Then next you should book
your plane tickets and hotels in advance.
Text 7
M: Good morning, Synmouth Museum. Can I help you?
W: Good morning. I’m interested in the children’s workshops and I’d like a little more information,
please.
M: Do you mean the Art workshops?
W: Yes.
M: Um, as you probably know, they run every Saturday.
W: Fine. And what about ages?
M: Well, all ages from five upwards are welcome, though we do ask that children below
eight years of age are accompanied by an adult.
W: Fine. That wouldn’t be a problem. What about cost?
M: Well, I think you’ll find them very reasonable. It’s£2.50 a child, with 50 pence off for
each if two or more children are from the same family.
W: OK.Thanks.
Text 8
W: I’m interested in an Audi.
M: Sure, we’ve got many models here. What is the engine size?Any ideas?
W: The one I’ve got at the moment is a 2.0 litre engine but I find it a bit slow on long journeys. I’d
like a bit more power this time … a 2.5 should do. I don’t think I need a 3.0 or anything.
M: Right. Well, I think the model you’re looking at is the Allroad. And here’s the color
chart for it. This blue’s very popular at the moment.
W: It’s nice. What’s it called? Royal?
M: Yes.
W: But actually I prefer this lighter blue – Sky.
M: Yes, that’s popular, too.
W: I think I’ll go for that.
Text 9
M: Sharon?
W: Yes, Mr. Smith.
M: Would you mind taking your stuff to your office? This is the conference room. And I
need to use this room at three o’clock.
W: I’m so sorry. I know I should have worked in my office, but these letters from the
audience took up so much space, I wasn’t able to do it on my desk.
M: I see. Do you have to finish reading them by today?
W: I’m afraid so.
M: I’ll see what I can do for you. And what you need is a bigger desk.
W: But my office doesn’t have enough room for a big one.
M: OK. Well, I’ll get Miss Green to help you with these letters so that you can clean up the
room before my meeting.
W: Oh, no, thanks, Mr. Smith. I can do it myself . Don’t bother.

NANJING-China’s first solar satellite, ASO-S, is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2022,
marking the country’s first-ever mission to observe the sun.
The satellite will operate in an orbit above Earth to maintain a view of the sun 24 hours a day. It
is expected to be in orbit for at least 4 years, according to Gan Weiqun, a researcher from the project.
The sun is the only fixed star that can be studied in detail by humans. The vast majority of its
radiation is blocked by Earth’s atmosphere. Only by sending satellites into space can a complete
picture of the sun be presented for further studies.
The satellite will also realize its potential in space weather forecasting. Sun activities can be
detected at least 40 hours ahead of their arrival by the satellite. This can help with early warnings of
damage to Earth’s environment.
Since the 1960s, more than 70 satellites related to solar observation have been launched globally.
The ASO-S is expected to fill China’s gap in the field, according to Gan.

When people sit together at night and enjoy the glorious moon, an ancient poem, Prelude to
Water Melody, is often read for this occasion. Critics say it's probably the best poem about the
Mid-Autumn Festival. Let's just focus on its most famous five lines to make some analysis.
In the first two lines of the five, the writer is comparing the life of a man with the changing face
of the moon. In Chinese culture the moon is always considered to be a perfect carrier of emotions
like nostalgia (怀旧) and longing for family reunion. A full moon symbolizes perfection and unity,
while a gloomy night may remind people of their misfortunes. When the moon is round and fair but
people are separated from their loved ones, such moments can be even more heartbreaking.
Before the comparison, the poet actually complains about the seemingly “ruthless(无情的)”
moon and asks her: You should have no spite (怨恨) against man, but why. When people part, are
you often full and bright? However, he soon realizes that no one has an easy ride, just like the moon
may not always be bright. The imperfections have been going on since the beginning of time. That's
why he says "There has been nothing perfect since the olden days."
Bu should we get bogged down (陷入) by the suffering of things with which we can’t change?
The poet gives his answer: Change your attitude and stay positive. So, we have this everlasting line,"
_________________________.” The poet hopes that people appreciate the fact that no matter where
they are, as long as the ones they love and miss are healthy and happy, they can all admire the same
moon high in the sky.
To his day people still use this verse to express their good will and wishes for family members
and friends who can't be with them, especially during major festivals.
24. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. How we can appreciate Chinese poetry about the Mid-Autumn Day.
B. When we must recite the best Chinese poetry about the Mid-Autumn Day.
C. What made a poet write the best ever Mid-Autumn Day Chinese poem.
D. Why a poem is the peak of Chinese poetry about the Mid-Autumn Day.

In 2009, Dr. Kathleen Wermke, who studies babies' first sounds, and her colleagues made
headlines with a study showing that French and German newborns produce distinctly different "cry
sounds". German newborns produce more cries that fall from a higher to a lower pitch, imitating (模
仿) the falling intonation (语调) of the German language, while French babies tend to cry with the
rising intonation of French. At this age, babies experiment with a wide variety of sounds, and can
learn any language. But they are already influenced by their mother tongue. Today, Dr. Wermke's lab
houses a collection of around a half million recordings of babies from as far as Cameroon and China.
The analysis of the recording has produced further insights into the factors that shape a baby's
first sounds. Newborns whose mothers speak tonal languages, such as Chinese, tend to produce more
complex cry sounds. Swedish newborns, whose native language has what linguists (语言学家) call a
“pitch accent”, produce more sing-songy cries.
Hearing and imitating are fundamental to language development. By the third trimester (妊娠
期), a fetus (胎儿) can hear the rhythm and melody of its mother's voice--- known as “prosody (韵
律 )”. Since individual words are not heard clearly, prosody becomes the major characteristic of
language for the fetus. Through stress, pauses and so on, prosody cuts up the sound into words and
phrases---that is, into speech.
These studies form the basis for the lab's broader effort to map the typical development of a
baby's cries. Knowing what typical development looks like, and what factors can influence it, helps
doctors address potential problems early on and understand how hearing problems are affecting the
babies' ability to imitate and experiment with language, and how they are progressing after
treatment.
28. What is the study of Dr. Kathleen and her colleagues mainly about?
A. Difference between languages.
B. The way people cry in different counties.
C. Factors about babies' first sounds.
D. Similarities between babies' first cry.
【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了 Kathleen Wermke 及其同事对新生儿发出的

As an astronomer (天文学家), I am accustomed to observing the universe in quiet places. I
observe galaxies in the deep universe---places so far away that their light takes billions of years to
reach our eyes.
Sometimes I wonder what our own galaxy looked like billions of years ago, before our solar
system was born. I often stare at the Hubble Deep Field (哈勃深空区) searching for clues: galaxies
colliding ( 碰 撞 ), stars exploding, and stellar nurseries. Can looking to the stars bring us closer
together?
A couple of months ago, Betelgeuse, a bright star in the Orion constellation (猎户座), started to
get dimmer and dimmer. Astronomers all over the world thought this might be a signal that the star
was about to explode. Though it might not happen for another 10,000 years or more, still I went
outside every night to check it out. I was hoping that it would explode. Imagine seeing a star shining
as bright as the full moon even during the day.
1 started dreaming about using such an event to remind everyone that stars produce nearly all
of the chemical elements in the universe, which came directly out of the Big Bang. Everything we
breathe, touch and see was made inside of stars. The iron in our blood, calcium in our bones, and
almost the entire periodic table are products of stellar evolution.
Betelgeuse did not explode, and more recent observations note that it is actually returning to
normal. But nothing is normal here on Earth now. I am beginning to realize that we did not need a
star to explode to unite us. All we needed was a common problem.
I am hoping that everyone on the planet is saving some time to contemplate (凝视,沉思) the
universe and to realize we are not alone. No matter where we are or who we are, we are on this
planet together. Since we are all made of stars, looking up at the night sky gives us a glimpse of our
past and our future, and we can contemplate both together.
32. Why does the author write this article?
A. To advise others to stare at a potentially exploding star recently.
B. To research into the scientific mystery in the universe with readers.
C. To discuss the proper relationship between human and the universe.
D. To suggest us thinking about the way human beings live in this world.

第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分, 满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有
两项为多余选项。
On 19 April 1980, more than 50,000 Parisians marched through the streets to mourn (悼念) the
loss of one of their own. Was it for a famous pop star, a beloved politician, or a national hero from
the world of sport? No, it was for Jean-Paul Sartre, the French existential philosopher and winner of
the Nobel Prize in Literature. In the United States, this kind of mass public display of sadness and
affection is usually reserved for pop stars. 36
A culture can admire both the physical and intellectual (智力).The achievements of athletes
inspire us to push the boundaries of what our bodies are capable of. 37 Both should make
us try to be greater, stronger and smarter.
The problem is that when the average person sees an athlete perform an amazing feat (功绩),
there is also the belief that they could do the same thing with enough training and practice. It seems
to be within their grasp. Some people see intellectual feats, however, as beyond their understanding
and therefore beyond their reach. Rather than struggle, they feel resentment (僧恨). 38
In the same way, intellectuals do not help their cause when they are dismissive(对...不屑一顾
的 )of pop culture and sports by dismissing popular achievements in those areas. 39
People are just more exposed to one or the other in their lives. Any attempt to use either as a means
to imply superiority indicates lack of understanding of the purpose of culture. It is something that
brings us close together by showing that we are all equal in our needs to love, be loved, and strive to
be better tomorrow than we are today. We accomplish this by understanding that the elegant idea to a
thinker is as inspiring as the slam dunk (灌篮) is to a sports fan. 40
A. Maybe it is time to rethink that priority.
B. Such anti-intellectualism leads to sickness, death and slows down society's progress.
C. Equally, we can be inspired by the insights of our poets, philosophers and the scientists.

第二节 (满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
This particular day began at seven in the morning in Casablanca (卡萨布兰卡). My Friend
Mike and I were going to visit Abdel, a young man we'd worked with on a Volunteer project in
Kenitra, an industrial city on the Morccan ( 摩 洛 哥 ) coast. He'd been expecting us to arrive in
Casablanca for a few days now, and since he had no telephone, he'd written down his address and
name and told us to just show up---his mother and sisters were always at home.
Apparently the address he had written down was hard for foreigners like us to understand.
When we got into the neighborhood, our taxi driver started asking directions. Eventually, with the
help of a policeman, we were led to a house down a winding road. Our driver went to the door and
inquired. He came back saying Abdel's sister was in this house visiting friends and would come
along to show us where they lived.
Soon a girl of about sixteen emerged from the house. Surprisingly, she didn't look like Abdel at
all. Still, I'd seen other families where children didn't look alike, so I didn't give it too much thought.
She then brought us to a yard. We waited in the yard while the sister went in and returned
accompanied by her mother, sisters and brother-in-law, all of whom greeted us with cautious warmth.
We were shown into the living room. The mother told us in broken French that Abdel was out, but
would be home soon. We sat on low, cushioned seats, drinking sweet mint tea and eating sugar
cookies, while the family members sat with us and made shy, polite conversation that frequently fell
into uncomfortable silence.
An hour passed, more family members emerged from inner rooms. I was again struck by the
fact that none of them looked a thing like our fiend.
After another two hours had passed with no sign of Abdel, the family insisted on serving us a
meal in their kitchen next door. “Soon” was the only response I got when I inquired as to what time
Abdel might come back.
注意: 续写词数应为 150 左右
Finally we heard the words we had been waiting for from the mother. “Please, Abel is back in
the living room.”

Finally we heard the words we had been waiting for from the mother, “Please, Abdel is back in
the living room.” We entered the lovely living room and a young man came forward with an
uncertain expression on his face. “Hello, I am Abdel.” he said cautiously. Immediately I realized
there was a mistake. “I – I’m sorry, I’m afraid you are not the Abdel we are looking for,” I giggled
nervously. For a split second no one said anything. Then Abdel exclaimed heartily, “It doesn’t matter
at all.” After hearing our story, he asked us to show them the address.
I took out the piece of paper Abdel had given me back in Kenitra and showed it to the new
Abdel. “This is Baalal Abdel!” said the second Abdel. “We went to school together! He lives less
than a kilometer from here. I will bring you to his house.” After taking photos and exchanging
addresses with the family, we hugged good-bye. Then the new Abdel led us to the home of our friend
Abdel. There, I reached out and hugged him. All of us enjoyed what a beautiful surprise and simple
kindness had opened to us: warmth, friendship and sincerity.
