(2021·湖南岳阳市·高二月考) Like any new ninth-grader on the first
day of school, Joemar Class had ninth-grader- emotion (情绪). He’s not used to school in
Hartford. He’s used to going to school in his home town of Florida, used to seeing his friends,
used to having class in Spanish.
“Nervioso,” he said in Spanish.
We first met Joemar in mid-October in the San Juan Airport. His father, Guillermo Class,
had sold his car to buy plane tickets to get his kids and fly them up from Puerto Rico. The
island was almost destroyed (毁坏) by the deadly storm—Hurricane Maria.
Now, they are settling into their new home in Hartford's South End. A week later, and,

“Hello,” they each said in Spanish. They asked where he's from, and told him they were
happy to see him. Then Levitz took him on a quick tour of the school before classes
began—to her office the school store, the library, and the dining hall.
A total of 19 languages are spoken in Bulkeley High School. “We have so many new
students coming here from other countries every single day,” Levitz said. “So it's not like he's
the only one who has that feeling.”

(2021·浙江高三一模) Israeli company Watergen has produced an appliance that
generates clean, potable water out of air. The device, called GENNY, is small enough to be
used in a home or office but can generate up to 30 liters of water a day. The water that
GENNY produces is not only clean enough to drink, but often cleaner than tap water.
GENNY takes air in and passes it through a filter (过滤器) to remove dust and dirt. The
filter is powerful enough to work even in areas with high air pollution. The air then passes
through a cabin where heating and cooling cause water vapor in the air to cool down. This
water is then passed through several more filters, and minerals are added to make it healthier
and better-tasting. Finally, the water is stored in a tank where it is continually circulated to
keep it fresh.
The heating and cooling process, named GENius, is far more energy-efficient than other
technologies that generate water from air. It produces four to five times more water per
kilowatt-hour. Watergen has other products that use this same technology on a larger scale,
the largest of which can produce up to 5,000 liters of water per day.
As an added bonus, once the water is extracted (提取), GENNY produces purified air,
which is healthier for people to breathe.
At the 2020 Smart Home Mark of Excellence Awards at the Consumer Electronics Show,
GENNY was named the Energy Efficient Product of the Year. The award series recognizes the
world’s top high-tech home products.
As a company, Watergen aims to provide drinking water to the billions of people who
don’t have safe drinking water at home. Last year Watergen’s large-scale products were
donated to authorities in Brazil, Vietnam and India.
Watergen also seeks to help the environment by removing waste generated by plastic
water bottles. People can put the water from GENNY into reusable bottles so that plastic ones
don’t get used and thrown away. Watergen’s technology is sure to help many people around
the world as well as help take care of our planet.
5.What does “GENNY” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A.A machine that produces water from air.
B.A company that generates water.
C.A process that cools water.
D.A reusable bottle that contains water.
6.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.The advantages of GENNY.
B.The working process of GENNY.
C.The benefits of water generated by GENNY.
D.The functions of GENNY.
7.Why is GENius more energy-saving, compared with other similar technologies?
A.It generates water even cleaner than tap water.
B.It produces clean air while extracting water.
C.It produces 5,000 liters of water a day.
D.It generates much more water each kilowatt-hour.
8.What has Watergen achieved so far?
A.It has provided people in remote areas with clean water.
B.It has got people into using recyclable bottles.
C.It has won the award of Efficient Products of the Year.
D.It has circulated the technology throughout the world.

(2020·福建师大附中) Picture this: It’s 2003 and your family has just finished
arguing over which Netflix movie video tapes to rent that week. Movies come in the mail and
the family watch them throughout the week. Then, fast forward to 2008, and you have started
to watch TV shows on Netflix’s new platform.
Now, let’s come to the present. You sit down and open up Netflix on your TV and scroll
(滚屏) for a while. Then check HBO GO. Finally, check Disney+. Then realize that you’re
paying for three different streaming services, maybe more.
Let’s return to Netflix. More generally, streaming. There are over 100 video streaming
services available, as well as quite a few music streaming, including YouTube Music, Google
Play, and etc. The streaming world, at least to some, is on its way to getting out of control,
with each service requiring its own monthly entertainment subscription. We haven’t even
taken into account subscriptions like Microsoft Office and email newsletters. Subscriptions
started out as a service of convenience, but now, the oversaturation may have become
burdensome. The services believe customers will pay more to get the content they want.
However, statistics show a growing frustration among consumers. With so many options, they
find it harder than ever to make a decision on what to pick.
Not only does the oversaturation of streaming result in confusing navigation, it also
creates a financial burden for the consumers. Let’s say if you want to watch The Handmaid’s
Tale and Game of Thrones, which belong to two different services, you would have to pay
nearly $50 a month to access both services, meaning it’s potentially more expensive, than
cable.
People cut their cords (细绳) and went the streaming route because it was simpler and
cheaper. Now, it’s just as inconvenient and difficult as cable was, if not more so, and unless
you’re limiting yourself to one service, it’s not cheaper. Streaming will survive because we’re
in a Golden Age of Media and because each service is able to create high-quality originals.
But Golden Ages don’t last, and bubbles tend to burst. Until the unavoidable day when some
product or service proves streaming out of date, we must suffer the choices in front of us. The
next time you are scrolling through Netflix, Hulu, or whatever, and the over-choice is killing
you, maybe you should just go pick up a book instead.
9.What is mainly talked about in the first two paragraphs?
A.Social progress has promoted the quality of life in the past decade.
B.Technology innovation results in different ways of relaxation.
C.Changes in home entertainment have brought us more options.
D.Netflix has been developing its service patterns.
10.What does the underlined word “oversaturation” in Paragraph 3 probably refer to?
A.The large number of subscriptions.
B.The frustration caused by poor service.
C.The rapidly developing entertainment market.
D.The confusing navigation resulting from streaming.
11.According to the passage, streaming services may__________.
A.improve user satisfaction B.raise entertainment costs
C.diversify entertainment forms D.realize the resource sharing
12.The author would probably agree that _________.
A.the streaming service will have a bright future
B.reading has an advantage over streaming service
C.there will be some better service to replace streaming
D.nothing can end streaming services as long as media exists

选项。
(2021·福建省永春第二中学高三一模) Giving generously and receiving
gratefully make it easier to live happily with others. 16.
Let me start with the idea of giving generously. 17. For example, my husband and I
have family members who only contact us when they need money. We usually accept their
requests, but we rarely receive a “ thank you ”. Most people would say that my husband and I
are being used, and I suppose we are. But when we give, we shouldn't be giving for the
purpose of getting gratitude or praise. 18.
The good news is that when we lead our lives being nice to others, our lives run more
smoothly. If you're generous, yes, some people will use you. But if you practice being
generous, most of your relationships will improve.
19. I truly believe that you cannot say "thank you" enough when you receive. So often
we get lazy about expressing gratitude. Parents can feel unappreciated by their children, and
teachers can feel unappreciated by their students. Do you think it unnecessary to thank them
when receiving just because a task is part of someone's job description? That's wrong!
Words of appreciation make others feel good about themselves like nothing else. It's
good for us to say "thank you" because we regularly need to remind ourselves of how lucky
we are. 20.
If you are looking for a way to improve your life, I can give you one: Give generously
and receive gratefully.
A.Thus, saying "thank you” can bring us good luck.
B.Rather, we should be giving because it's a good thing.
C.And hearing those two words can make us feel great for days.
D.And at the same time, we should remember to receive gratefully.
E.In return, we are to help others by giving them our time or money,
F.I think people are unwilling to be generous to others for fear of being used.
G.Yet, why do we have such difficulty achieving these things in our relationships?

The story of my new family member
We found a lonely dog a few weeks ago, walking along the road in the countryside. All
of a sudden, he was jumping on cars, and at the same time we thought maybe his family was
camping somewhere in the neighboring areas. As a consequence we passed him by without
hesitation. A few hours later, on our return trip, he was still in the same place, again and again,
making an attempt to get people to stop for him. When he caught sight of us approaching, he
lay down in the middle of the road, so we failed to get around him.
My father braked hard, pulled up and looked around for a few minutes, trying to figure
out whether anyone around from whom he had been separated. After getting off the car, we
checked the dog carefully. It didn’t appear so. Then we took a good look at the poor but cute
dog. He gazed at us eagerly with gloomy eyes. We circled around him in a total silence. We
had an overwhelming desire to find out what was wrong with him. Unfortunately, we couldn’t
find any clues. He had no collar and he was really too thin. Eventually we decided that he had
been abandoned. We showed great sympathy for the poor dog. How helpless he was on such
an occasion! He was homeless and he had no one to rely on.
On seeing the scene, we couldn’t help begging my parents to raise him. My mother
agreed excitedly, “I love this lovely dog. How poor he is! It is high time that we should bring
him home.” She stared at the dog with tears welling up in her eyes. We knew my mother was
willing to adopt the dog because she was so sweet and she loved dogs very much. My father
thought it was dangerous to raise a dog due to the fact that we were too young.

是为何我们在人际关系中很难做到慷慨给予。下文“Most people would say that my husband and I
are being used, and I suppose we are.(很多人会说我和我丈夫被利用了,我想确实是这样。)”
说明大家不愿慷慨给予的原因在于感觉被利用。F 选项 I think people are unwilling to be
generous to others for fear of being used.(我认为人们之所以不愿意慷慨解囊,是因为害怕被人
利用。)与上下文意相符。being used 是关键词。故选 F 项。
18.
根据上文“But when we give, we shouldn't be giving for the purpose of getting gratitude or praise.
(但是当我们给予时,我们不应该为了得到感激或赞美而给予。)”可知,我们的给予不是为了
感激和赞美,所以填空处应是对我们给予的原因进行解释。B 选项 Rather, we should be giving
because it's a good thing.(相反,我们应该给予,因为这是一件好事。)讲明因为给予是一件好
事,因此我们给予,符合文意。故选 B 项。
19.
下文“I truly believe that you cannot say "thank you" enough when you receive.(我真心相信,当你
收到礼物的时候,再怎么说“谢谢”也不为过。)”说明我们要记得真心感激别人的给予。D 选项
And at the same time, we should remember to receive gratefully.(同时,我们也要记得感激地接
受。)符合文意。"thank you" 呼应 gratefully。故选 D 项。
20.
根据上文“ It's good for us to say "thank you" because we regularly need to remind ourselves of how
lucky we are.(对我们来说,说“谢谢”是件好事,因为我们需要经常提醒自己,我们是多么幸
运。)”可知,“谢谢”这两个词可以使自己感到快乐。C 选项 And hearing those two words can make
us feel great for days.(听到这两个词会让我们感觉好上好几天。)中 those two words 指的是上
文中的“谢谢”,符合文意。故选 C 项。

means we shouldn’t order more food than that we can eat up. In this way, we can reduce food waste

第二节、读后续写(满分 25 分)
One possible version:
My father said firmly, “If he doesn’t bite me when I try to pick him up to put him in the car, then
we have a new dog.” The dog happily joined us with no fight at all, the only thing we were in danger
of was getting licked. He kept sticking his head between the two front seats and thanked us for
picking him up. The dog had clearly been on the road for some time, he was really too thin. So we
fed him a lot over the course of the next two weeks striving to look after him with the hope that he
would get stronger. Unfortunately, all our efforts were in vain. He was still very thin.
We took him to the vet, who said the dog appeared to be in good health. The vet guessed the
dog was about two years old. He gave the dog all the required shots and sent us on our way.
“Amazing! The dog is healthy.” My mother said in an excited voice. So thrilled were we that we
headed home immediately. We did love our new family member. The dog was a sweet companion to
our family, who was a quick learner and knew how to respond to different instructions. We learned a
lesson from the experience that kindness and sympathy made a big difference to our life.
