Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse.
So cute was it that I asked my dad if I could keep it as a
pet. It must be funny to feed it and take it outside, playing
with the sheep. To my delight, my dad agreed. However,
the rabbit ran away in no time. We chased it immediately,
but it ran so swiftly that soon it was out of sight. what’s
worse, we realized that we had run out of the track and
everything around us seemed strange.
We had no idea where we were and it was getting dark.

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
A friend of mine whose name was John Smith had a bad memory, which made
him famous. He was so forgetful that he sometimes forgot what he was talking
about in the middle of a sentence. His wife had to constantly remind him about
his meetings, his classes—even his meals! Once he forgot he had eaten breakfast
twice, at home and at school. His wife liked to remind her neighbors, "If John
didn't have his head tied on, he would forget that too!" Since Smith was a
professor at a well-known university, his forgetfulness was often an
embarrassment to him. It wasn't that he was not clever, as some critical people
tended to say, but just very absent-minded.
One hot summer day, Professor Smith decided to take his children to a seaside
town about a three-hour train ride away. To make the trip more interesting for his
young children, he kept the name of the town a secret. However, by the time
they arrived at the station, Smith forgot the name of the town he was planning
to visit. Luckily, a friend of his happened to be in the station. He offered to take
care of the children while Smith hurried back home to find out where he was
going.
The professor's wife was surprised to see him again so soon.
"Oh, my dear, I forgot the name of the town."
"What? You forgot the name? Maybe one day you will forget my name! Now
I'll write the name of that town on a piece of paper, and you put it in your
pocket and please, please don't forget where you put it."
Satisfied that she had solved the problem, she sent her husband off again. Ten
minutes later she was astonished to see him outside the house for the third time.
Paragraph 1:
"What is the matter now?" asked his wife.________________________
Paragraph 2:
Hearing the cry, out rushed their neighbors, trying to find out what had
happened. ___________________________________________________

“What is the matter now?” asked his wife. “I am afraid that I have lost
the piece of paper you gave and have no idea of where I am going on such a
hot summer day,” replied the professor. However, Mrs. Smith quickly sensed
something wrong because Mr. Smith hung his head low with his eyes blinking
while talking. “Tell me the truth,” ordered his wife. “Er… I do remember
where I put the paper, but I forget the station where I left our children.”
murmured the professor, wringing his hands together. “What a bad memory!”
shouted his wife.
Hearing the cry, out rushed their neighbors, trying to find out what had
happened. A fight between the couple was about to break out when the
professor’s cell phone began to ring. His friend, whose patience had worn thin,
phoned to complain. The professor apologized, jumped into his car and drove
away, leaving his wife and neighbors confused outside the house. Being afraid
that he would make matters worse again, Mrs. Smith called a taxi and followed
him. Fortunately, the children were finally taken back home safe and sound.

avoid another similar unexpected situation, Mrs. Smith decided to join in their

together.
During this past year, I've had three instances of car trouble. Each time
these things happened; I was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered
to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three
hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said
NEED A JACK (千斤顶),and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was
about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the
father bounded out.
He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English.
He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for
the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw
(锯子)from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of
the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.

I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his
tire iron. “No worries.” He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a
flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes.
We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.
The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water
for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man's hand, but he
wouldn't take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife
as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she
said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit
farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.
When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch.
After they left, I got into my Jeep and opened the paper bag.

turned around and dashed back to their truck. In no time, the girl returned
breathlessly, with a paper bag held tightly in her hand. She handed it to me and
before I was able to express my gratitude, she waved me goodbye and wished
me good luck.

I was rooted to the spot, a warm current rising in my heart. How lucky it was for
me to encounter the family! Although most people I met on the road were
indifferent, there were still someone else who were so helpful and considerate.
Looking in the direction they went off, I made up my mind to help others in
need like the Mexican family from then on. It was the first time that I had not
been sick of my car trouble but lucky for coming across the Mexican angels.
