Aside from these awe-inspiring ancient structures, there are plenty of other things to see and do, as well as countless places to eat and drink, and make the most of your nights out. Most people enjoy a night on the tiles of Siem Reap without incident, but street theft, scams, and other petty crimes can never be completely discounted in any major tourist destinations in the region. Pick pocketing and bag theft are the most common incidents, but can easily be avoided by simple use of common sense. Be aware that locals are very proud people, and displays of anger or rudeness from a foreigner are never well received. You can guarantee yourself a great night by being cool and smart by following some basic rules: ※ Don’t carry more money than you need: there are plenty of ATMs across town, and most Siem Reap establishments are relatively accessible. ※ Try to keep to main roads and avoid walking alone, especially if you are lost. ※ Keep wallets, handbags, mobile phones and cameras close to you, and don’t leave your belongings unattended anywhere: reducing the opportunities for theft is the best way to reduce the likelihood of it happening. ※ Be careful (ladies especially) on motors or tuk-tuks not to leave bags hanging loosely over your shoulder. Keep them out of reach of passers-by — the same goes for cameras too. ※ If you hire a motorbike, try to buy your own padlock and never leave it unlocked, unless it’s in a ticketed parking place. ※ Be polite and friendly with local people, whatever the situation. ※ Negotiate your fare to avoid problems later. Emergency Numbers Royal Angkor International Hospital: 012 235 888 or 063 761 888 Angkor Children’s Hospital: 063 963 409 Ambulance (S.A.M.U): 063 761 119 or 012 630 399 Tourist Police: 012 402 424 or 012 969 991 Fire: 012 390 806 21. What’s the purpose of the text? A. To introduce Siem Reap. B. To attract more visitors to Siem Reap. C. To warn visitors to stay away from Siem Reap. D. To offer advice about safe night enjoyment in Siem Reap. 22. Which of the following is correct? A. Call 012 630 399 in case of any theft. B. Hold your belongings close to your back. C. Bargain over the fees before getting on any transport. D. Walk in the side street and call the police, if you’re lost. 23. Where is the text probably from? A. A pocket guide. B. A story app. C. A news report. D. A commercial ad. B Globally, forests are being cleared for development at a horrifying rate. Seeing the destruction of his native land, Omar Tello wanted to take on a mission of a lifetime. 40 years ago, Omar Tello bought a patch of land near Puyo city in Ecuador. He gave up his job as an accountant to work full time on this land, creating a forest rehabilitation (修复) project. “People thought I was mad, but I’ve watched this whole paradise disappear, to the point where seeing a wild animal alive and free is a luxury... So I said to myself, I have to do something to save the species,” Omar explains. Across Ecuador, deforestation has been increasing. In 2008, scientists warned that Ecuador had the highest deforestation rate in South America. Omar Tello’s project, Jardin Botanico Las Orquidias, focuses on planning, implementing and evaluating strategies, guidelines and actions to consolidate a culture of respect for the natural environment, contributing to the protection of the environment through scientific research for the Amazonian flora and fauna (动植物). Over these 40 years, Omar has gleaned (四处搜集) rare seeds and cuttings from the Amazon basin and repopulated these species within his project. The wildlife has slowly been attracted into the area. Snakes, birds, insects, bees and even the endangered “glass frog”, which was thought to be on the brink of extinction, have been spotted in his forest. The rescue center of the Amazonian flora and fauna is now a benchmark for research on ecosystem restoration. Omar Tello has also become recognized as an expert in the field of long-term forest restoration. His work now is to work with educational institutions, community centers and local farmers to give other landowners the power to do the same as him. The wife of Omar states that “(although people) come from far away to see and learn about the project, people around Puyo are not that interested. They don’t respect what Omar has done. No one from local government or authorities has shown any interest. 24. What does the underlined word “consolidate” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Contradict. B. Strengthen. C. Boycott. D. Adore. 25. What can we infer from the text? A. Omar hopes to do research on ecosystem restoration in the long term. B. The endangered species reappear in Amazon forest because of Omar’s project. C. Omar is considering buying land and quitting his job for the conservation project. D. Despite some setbacks, Omar longs to work wholeheartedly for rainforest restoration. 26. What may best describe the personalities of Omar Tello? A. Selfless & adaptable B. Generous & optimistic C. Ambitious & capable D. Reliable & independent 27. What can we learn from Omar Tello’s story? A. It pays to try new things. B. Nothing seek, nothing find. C. Many hands make light work. D. He who laughs last laughs best. 高三英语试卷 第 5 页 共 21 页 C A competition making up Versailles literature was launched on Sina Weibo recently. So what is Versailles literature? Actually, the term has nothing to do with the French palace nor with literature. It came from The Rose of Versailles, a Japanese manga series about aristocratic(贵族化的)life at the palace of Versailles in France in the late 18th century, and was coined by a Chinese influencer earlier this year. Known as humblebragging, it is a boast (吹牛)disguised as a complaint. “I have too many houses. How can I decide which one to decorate?” and “I thought I lost weight this morning. So disappointed when I realized it was because I took off the huge diamond ring my boyfriend gave me last night” are some examples of Versailles literature. The intention is to show off --- usually things of materialistic values, yet one ought to pretend that’s not the point. As the 19th century English author Jane Austen famously wrote, “Nothing is more deceitful(欺诈的)than the appearance of humility(谦逊).” The psychology behind humblebragging is to be recognized for one’s successes and be liked by others at the same time, according to scholars. In her article titled Why do people hate humblebragging? published in Psychology Today, psychologist Dr. Susan Krauss Whitbourne at the University of Massachusetts Amherst noted that humblebragging is a “strategy in pursuit of respect” because it draws attention to one’s accomplishments in a circuitous way. However, studies on social media users show that humblebragging as a self-promotion strategy does not work. In the essay Humblebragging: A distinct and ineffective self-presentation strategy, the University of North Carolina researcher Ovul Sezer and Harvard University scholars Francesca Gino and Michael Norton concluded from their research that humblebraggers are perceived more negatively than straight braggers due to the former’s insincerity. “The critical factor differentiating the two groups of people is sincerity. People don’t like braggers, but they at least see them as more sincere than humblebraggers,” said Francesca Gino. So, how can we annoy humblebraggers back? “Just pretend you don’t get whatever it is they try to show off,” a netizen advised. “And respond with genuine sympathy for their complaints.” 28. Which of the following statements is typical of “Versailles literature”? A. You know who my father is? My father is Li Gang. B. Got five offers to date. I’m at a loss which to choose. C. It’s a headache how to make my son tidy up his room regularly. D. I’m fed up with living in the countryside with no shopping malls around. 29. What is the psychology behind humblebragging? A. To win others’ sympathy. B. To earn others’ admiration. C. To show his/her sincerity. D. To mask his/her complaint. 30. What does the underlined world “circuitous” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Roundabout. B. Straightforward. C. Ambiguous. D. Double-edged. 31. What can’t be inferred from the passage? A. Braggers are relatively more sincere than humblebraggers. B. Humblebragging is an artificial appearance of being humble. C. To respond with real sympathy will discourage humblebraggers. D. If you want to be perceived positively, avoid using Versailles literature. D 高三英语试卷 第 6 页 共 21 页 People with genetic syndromes(综合症) sometimes have telltale (泄露秘密的) facial features, but using them to make a quick and cheap diagnosis can be tricky given there are hundreds of possible conditions they may have. A new neural network that analyzes photographs of faces can help doctors narrow down the possibilities. Yaron Gurovich at biotechnology firm FDNA in Boston and his team built a neural network to look at the gestalt --- or overall impression --- of faces and return a list of the 10 genetic syndromes a person is most likely to have. They trained the neural network, called DeepGestalt, on 17,000 images correctly labelled to match more than 200 genetic syndromes. The team then asked the AI to identify potential genetic disorders from a further 502 photos of people with such conditions. It included the correct answer 91 per cent of the time. Gurovich and his team also tested the neural network’s ability to distinguish between the different genetic mutations (变异) that can lead to the same syndrome. They used photographs of people with Noonan syndrome, which can result from mutations in any one of five genes. DeepGestalt correctly identified the genetic source of the physical appearance 64 per cent of the time. It’s clearly not perfect, but it’s still much better than humans are at trying to do this. As the system makes its assessments, the facial regions that were most helpful in the determination are highlighted and made available for doctors to view. This helps them to understand the relationships between genetic make-up and physical appearance. The fact that the diagnosis is based on a simple photograph raises questions about privacy. If faces can reveal details about genetics, then employers and insurance providers could, in principle, secretly use such techniques to discriminate against people who have a high probability of having certain disorders. However, Gurovich says the tool will only be available for use by clinicians(临床医生). Clinically, this technology can help narrow down the search space of diagnosis and then confirm through checking genetic markers. Besides, it could perhaps add means of finding other people with the disease and, in turn, help find new treatments or cures. 32. What’s the best title of this text? A. Tricky facial features B. Faces let AI spot genetic disorders C. Facial features give you away to doctors D. DeepGestalt: a magic cure for genetic syndromes 33. What can we know about DeepGestalt? A. It can be trained to correctly label the images of people. B. It can correctly identify genetic mutations 91% of the time. C. It was built to look at faces and identify genetic disorders. D. It is much better than humans at trying to identify physical appearance. 34. Why are certain facial regions highlighted in the assessment process? A. To help confirm the diagnosis. B. To make the system more understandable. C. To help the system quickly recognize people. D. To help identify a condition and make a diagnosis. 35. What’s the author’s attitude towards the technology? A. Positive. B. Neutral. C. Indifferent. D. Critical. 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Should you listen to music when you work? Some will say they love it, claiming that it improves their performance; others will say they cannot work effectively with music playing in the background. (36) 高三英语试卷 第 7 页 共 21 页 __________ It just depends on what sort of work you’re doing. In a recent study, we brought participants into our lab with a variety of tasks. They included an easy task — searching through word lists and crossing out words containing the letter “a” and a more difficult task — memorizing word pairs and recalling the partner to each word. Some participants completed all of the tasks in silence, whereas others completed the tasks with instrumental music that was either loud or soft, and either simple or complex, the latter meaning music with more instrumental tracks. (37) __________ We found that participants who listened to simple music or no music performed about the same on the easy task. (38) __________ Contrarily, participants performed worse on the more difficult task when they listened to any music, regardless of complexity or volume, compared to those who didn’t listen to any music. (39) __________ Not surprisingly, we typically need to use fewer of our mental resources when we perform easy tasks, whereas demanding tasks require more brainpower. However, because we might be less engaged during easier tasks, there’s a greater risk of drifting off to sleep. Music might give us the extra boost we need to get refreshed. (40) __________ Listening to music can become overkill (过 犹不 及 ). So we have to strike a balance between the type of music and the type of task. A. What should we make of these findings? B. Several key findings emerged from our study. C. However, difficult tasks already demand a lot of our mental resources. D. Our research has found that the effects of work may depend on our personalities. E. We want to develop a more comprehensive framework that could be applied broader. F. However, participants who listened to complex music performed best on the easy task. G. Interestingly enough, our research has found that both of these perspectives can be true. 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节 (共 15 小题; 每小题 1 分,满分 15 分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Austin Perine looks like a superhero, with his cape(披风) flapping against his blue shirt. English reading really wasn’t that funny as far as I knew. It was early May and I was facing a class of sixteen kids. Though I had almost three years of teaching, this particular sixth grade class had pushed me to the limits of my patience far too many times, and I couldn’t wait to wave goodbye to them for the summer. I had kept away from the ideal of my first year of teaching. That first year I’d covered up the small hole in the window with an inspirational poster. I’d decorated the walls with pictures of famous universities. I told the kids daily that they always had something worth struggling for. Together we would work hard and make something of their lives. The problem, of course, was that my ideals kept being defeated by reality. Not just the reality of troubled families. I was also faced with the basic reality of the twelve- and thirteen-year-old mind. The universal mind, “You can’t make me!” And now I was faced with a giggle when I should have had only full attention. Walking over to the young peacebreaker, I asked for the note she had in her hands. Frozen, she refused to give it to me. I waited, all attention in the room on the quiet battle between teacher and student. When she finally handed it over, saying, “Okay, but I didn’t draw it,” which showed this wasn’t just an ordinary note being passed. After getting the class going on an English reading test, I finally had a chance to look through it. It was a hand-drawn picture of me, eyes monitoring widely, teeth blackened, and the words “I’m stupid” coming out of my mouth. There was no doubt about who it was supposed to be. I managed to fold up the picture calmly. My mind, however, was working angrily and wanting to criticize some students on the scene. I figured I knew the two most likely candidates for drawing the picture. Maybe it was high time that I did it! 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 高三英语试卷 第 10 页 共 21 页 Thankfully, calmness returned to my mind.______________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ Looking over the notes later, I realized I was too strict with them. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________ 江苏省、、姜堰中学、 2021 年 4 月英语参考答案 第一部分 听力 (共 20 小题,满分 30 分) 1-5 BCBAB 6-10 CABCB 11-15 ACBCB 16-20 AACAA 第二部分 阅读(共两节,20 小题,满分 50 分) 21-23 DCA 24-27 BDCB 28-31 BBAD 32-35 BCDA 36-40 GBFAC 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节 完形填空(共 15 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 15 分) 41-45 ADCDB 46-50 BCDBA 51-55 CBACB 第二节 语法填空(共 10 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分) 56. an 57. packaged 58. convenience 59. videos 60. influential 61. whose 62. has been exported 63. that 64. At the school gate you’ll find a beautiful fountain in front of you. Then turn right and you will see an art gallery. Choose the main road and go straight forward. Turn left at the corner of the science building and go ahead until you see the lecture hall at your right hand. You can’t miss it. It is very important to be punctual for the competition. Whoever is late won’t be allowed to enter. Please switch off your cellphones so as not to disturb others. And it’s good manners to wait for your turn quietly and not to litter around. 高三英语试卷 第 11 页 共 21 页 Wish you good luck! 第二节(满分 25 分) Thankfully, calmness returned to my mind. Suppressing my pride, I showed them the picture. The whole class was silent as I told them how hurtful this was for a teacher. Struggling to control my emotion, I demanded there must be a reason behind for such a picture and that now was their chance to tell me anything they needed to tell me. Asking them to get out of paper and write silently, I sniffled in the back of the classroom. Looking over the notes later, I realized I was too strict with them. Where I thought I was driving them to success, I was actually driving them away. After class, the girl walked up, handing me a card embarrassedly. One side of the card was sincere regret for the ugly joke while the other side the appeal for forgiveness. I was deeply moved. Meanwhile, a great sense of guilt arose for being too harsh. After all, students appreciate being appreciated, for teachers’ encouragement is their best motivating force. 录音稿 (Text 1) M: Excuse me, can we leave our backpack and suitcase here? W: OK. And I drink lots of water. It’s better than juice. W: I don’t like salad very much, and I don’t like water. And I think tea and coffee taste horrible. I prefer lemonade. And I love sweets too. But I don’t like ice cream very much. It brings a pain in my teeth. (Text 8) M: Hi, Maggie. I haven’t seen you for a long time. Did you do anything nice over the summer? W: Bruce and I went on an amazing vacation to Malta, which is a small island in the Mediterranean. M: Sounds great! W: Our hotel was only a short distance from the beach. The beach itself, which was small, was not good enough for swimming. However, the boats at the harbor were brightly painted and they were really beautiful. The home-cooked food was fresh and absolutely delicious. M: You’re making me hungry! W: We also explored the whole island, which was full of honey-colored buildings. The capital city, Valletta, has a lot of beautiful churches. We got lost a couple of times, but the friendly locals helped us. M: Mmm … that was nice! I think I’ll go there next summer. W: Well, if you do, you must visit the small island of Gozo. (Text 9) W: Max, I want to buy Robert a pet for his birthday. But you know, our brother likes neither cats nor dogs. What do you think I should do? M: His favorite is birds. How about buying a parrot for him? W: I’m afraid it’s not good. Mum hates keeping birds because they make a lot of noise. M: Robert is also interested in little mice. What about buying him a mouse? W: No, it’s impossible. Don’t you know that our sister Cathy has just got a pet cat? M: Then why don’t you buy him a rabbit? W: But I think rabbits are smelly. What about a goldfish? They’re very beautiful and easy to look after. M: No, boys don’t usually love goldfish. I suggest you buy him a snake. It’s very unusual. I’m fond of that. W: No, I don’t think it’s a good idea. You know, I’m terribly afraid of snakes. M: I’ve got a good idea. Let’s ask him and find out what he really likes and then we can go to the market to get one for him. W: That sounds OK. (Text 10) 高三英语试卷 第 13 页 共 21 页 W: Welcome to Student Life! Today we’re going to talk about setting up a project of student jobs in your school. Having students do different jobs around the school is a great way to prepare them for life in the real world. It encourages them to be responsible and also helps them learn new tasks and gain experience. However, it’s important to get students excited about the project, so the first thing you should do is let students know this project. Get the headmaster to make an announcement explaining the project. OK? Then decide on the jobs you want and write out the descriptions of the skills and responsibilities needed for each position. Some typical jobs are Classroom Assistants, Recycling Officers and Computer Assistants. Next, ask students to apply for the jobs. Students should be encouraged to write letters of application for the job they are interested in. This is a great way to practice letter writing skills! And don’t forget, you should make sure that students are guided by a teacher so that they take their responsibilities seriously. A committee then reviews all the applications and gives jobs to the most suitable applicants. Finally, it’s important to get opinions from the students about the project, to find out which jobs are successful and which don’t go so well. 定位到第三段“psychology behind humblebragging is to be recognized for one's successes and be liked by others”可知选 B. earn one's admiration 赢 得他人的喜爱。 第 30 题 A 词义猜测题。定位到第三段最后,其实从 humblebragging 的构词就能看 出这是以自谦的方式来吹牛逼,是一种绕弯的方式,因为这种策略“draw attention to one's accomplishment in a circuitous way” 所 以 选 A. roundabout 迂 回 的 。 B. straightforward 直接的。C. ambiguous 模棱两可的,理解凡学的人应该知道凡学不是 模糊的,是有明确目的的,凡学只是绕着弯炫耀,不选 C。D. double-edged 也有模 棱两可的意思,还有双刃剑的(有利有弊的)意思。 第 31 题 D 理解推测题。注意题目问的是不能 can't be inferred,定位到第四段 “humblebraggers are perceived more negatively than straight braggers due to former's insincerity.”可知 A 选项正确。第二段“nothing is more deceitful than the appearance of humility”对应 B 选项的“artificial appearance of being humble”。最后一段“annoy humblebraggers back … respond with genuine sympathy for their complaints”可知 C 正 确。 第 33 题 C 细 节 理 解 题 从 第 一 段 开 始 分 析 “A neural network that analyzes photographs of faces can help doctors narrow down the possibilities”第三段“trained the neural network, called DeepGestalt, on images correctly labelled to match genetic syndromes”可知 C 选项正确。 第 34 题 D 细节理解题。定位到第五段“…assessments, the facial regions that were most helpful in the determination are highlighted and made available for doctors to review”可知 D 选项正确。 第 35 题 A 推断态度题。文章先是介绍这一种科技,虽然最后一段开头说“raise questions about privacy”但是作者并没有过多的讲不好的一面,接下去说“However, the tool will be only available .. clinicians”说明“只用于医学临床使用”,以此打消人们 的担心。最后又讲“help narrow down…help find new treatments…” 故选 A。 第 40 题 C 结合后文,说的是听音乐会导致过犹不及,那么肯定在讨论复杂任务 不适合听音乐,因为复杂任务本身就需要精神力消耗。故选 C。 03 完形填空答案: 41-45 ADCDB 46-50 BCDBA 51-55 CBACB Suppressing my pride, I showed them the picture. Where I thought I was driving them to success. I was actually driving them away. After class, the girl walked up, handing me a card embarrassedly. One side of the card was sincere regret for the ugly joke while the other side the appeal for forgiveness. I was deeply moved. 高三英语试卷 第 21 页 共 21 页 Meanwhile, a great sense of guilt arose for being too harsh.
