I’m starting to feel uncomfortable in this
seat.
4.Why is the man looking in the drawer ?

B. He needs a pen.
C. He wants some gloves.
W: Dad, what are you looking for in the

W: There are about ten on the computer
table.

the front door bell. I dried myself quickly and ran

parcel(包裹) and they’ll try again in the morning.
W: Oh no. That’s my dress. I want to wear it tonight.
I’m going out with my friend.
M: Sorry, dear. These people always seem to come
at the wrong time. It’s never in the middle of the
afternoon when I’m doing nothing.
W: I’m really annoyed. They could have left it with a
neighbor.

be responsible for leading market research, with a
goal of increasing our profit by 100% to 100 million
per year.
M: Hi Jon! Everyone, I actually know Jon already. We
used to go to school together, and we used to run into
each other sometimes. I have heard a lot about him,
and I am sure he will help us reach this goal.
W: Thanks for the kind words. Now, for the second
important matter of today, please remember to
remove or throw out your food from the fridge every
Friday. The old food in there has been an issue ever
since I joined this company a year ago, and I think it
is finally time to deal with it.

W: Oh no, my legs are so painful! I need to stop now.
M: Come on now! You told me you’ll never make the soccer
team unless you can run five kilometers. Still one more to
go!
W: No more for me! And about that… I changed my mind. I
don’t think soccer is right for me. It’s not the running… It’s
just that playing on a team is too much pressure.
M: So, is that why you quit volleyball last year? But you
said you definitely still wanted to do a school sport. You’re
competitive by nature.
W: Yeah. That’s why I’m going to try out for the swimming
team. Plus, it’s not as hard on my legs if I’m in the water.
M: I guess I can see that…but I don’t know why you’re so
worried about playing a team sport.
W: I just prefer to focus on what I’m doing. If I mess up, it’s
my own problem and doesn’t affect anyone else.
14.When did the man stop calling his friends?

17.Why did the woman join her new company ?
A. The salary is great.
B. The people are nice.
C. The location is convenient.
W: Ever since the 2010s, people have stopped calling their friends. Now,
people use text messages for 90% of communication.
M: I used to call my friends all the time. But phones got really advanced in
2015, and I have only texted since then.
W: But, what’s less convenient is how some people send voice
messages now. You never know what they’re going to say, and what if you
set the volume too loud. It can lead to some very awkward situations.
M: Exactly. Yesterday, I was in the main office of SDS Limited when Acme
Corporation called.
W: Why is that so bad?
M: Because they called me to arrange a job interview! Imagine if I
accidentally put the phone on speaker mode.
W: Ha-ha! When are you going to tell SDS you’re looking for a new job?
M: When I get one, obviously. Well, how’s your life at Dynamic Tech, by the
way?
W: Great. I’m thankful for the recommendation you gave me.
M: No problem. The company has great people.
W: To be honest, the pay is much higher than what I got before. That’s
what interested me the most. But yes, the people are really nice.
M: They’re at such a convenient location too!
18.Why did the speaker want to build a
house ?
A. To save money. B. To learn new skills.
C. To give it to his children.
19. What should you learn about before
construction ?
A. Computer science.
B. Building laws. C. Mathematics.
20. What does the speaker want to explain
in the talk?
A. People should build houses.
B. People should learn many skills.
C. People should challenge themselves.
M: For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to build a house in the
woods. You might ask why I want to build my own house rather than buy
one. Many who build houses say it’s to pass it on to future generations, but
my kids would never live outside the city. The truth is, gaining
the ability to finish such a complex project is its own reward.
Before you even begin planning, you have to become an expert
in local building rules. But, once you start construction, the first
thing you need to learn is how to measure wood correctly. You
can’t do any of this without basic mathematics. But I already
know this because I’m interested in computer science. Once
plans were drawn, I had to dig the foundation and cut the wood.
This was truly great exercise — an added benefit of the whole
project. Then came the complicated part of putting it all
together. It took me two years to have a complete house I could
live in. I know that doing something like this is not for everyone.
It takes significant effort, years of hard work, and focus to keep
going even when you’re frustrated. But, like many things in life,
the hardest path is the most worthwhile.
Practice makes perfect!
