The Lascaux Writing Contest Guidelines
The Lascaux Prizes in Creative Non-fiction and Short Fiction are presently open for submission. The Lascaux
Prizes in Flash Fiction and Poetry will reopen on October 1, 2020.
Prizes
Winner receives $1,000, a silver medal, and publication online in The Lascaux Review. The winner and all
finalists will be published in the annual print journal Lascaux 8. Contest participants can download the Lascaux
works for free.
Rules
Creative Non-fiction: Creative non-fiction may include memoirs, personal essays and literary
journalism-anything the author has witnessed, experienced or discovered. Submissions should be within a length of
10,000 words. Pieces should be written in a non-academic style. Submissions close on December 31, 2020.
Short Fiction: Submissions should be no more than 10,000 words. There are no restrictions on the style or
subject matter. Submissions close on February 28, 2021.
Flash Fiction: Writers may enter more than once, and as many as three stories per entry, all filed in one
document. Single story should be not more than 1,000 words. Because editors are working in different workplaces,
the Review is unable to accept submissions via postal mail. All topics are welcome. Submissions close on April 30,
2021.
Poetry: Poets may enter more than once, and as many as five poems may be submitted per entry. All are filed
in one document. There are no length restrictions. All styles are welcome. Submissions close on June 30, 2021.
Entry Fee
Entry fee is $15.All the fees are intended entirely as prize money and operating expenses. Editors, judges, and
other staff at The Lascaux Review are unpaid volunteers.

Sharks are amazing creatures. They are known as the deadliest hunters in the sea. Fortunately most are
not, but there are some kinds of sharks that can be extremely dangerous. Look at these short descriptions of four
kinds of sharks.
The Great White Shark
Great Whites are one of the most frightening creatures in the sea. They live in tropical and subtropical waters,
and they can grow up to 9 meters long. Most Great Whites are actually grey, blue or brown with a white belly, and
their powerful teeth are triangles with edges like saws.
The Whale Shark
Whale Sharks are the largest kind of shark in the world-up to 11 meters in length. They live in tropical waters
all around the world, but they are not dangerous. Whale Sharks are brown or grey with white or yellow stripes.
They often travel near the surface of the sea.
The Mako Shark
Mako Sharks are fierce predators. They come from the same family of sharks as the Great White and they are
especially fast-they can swim at speeds of up to 65 kilometers per hour. They are large bluish sharks found in the
Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. Mako Sharks can grow up to 3 meters long.
The Great Hammerhead Shark
The Great Hammerheads' most striking feature is its wide thick head which looks like a hammer. The average
size of a Great Hammerhead is approximately 3.5 meters, but can grow up to 6 meters long. These sharks average
over 500 pounds but can weigh as much as 1,000 pounds. Like most sharks the females are larger than the males.
They have several rows of teeth that have 24 to 37 teeth per row. The Great Hammerhead has a very keen sense of
smell, which helps find its prey.

City Information Sheet
The city has several services and events each year that may interest you and are listed below:
•The city has an Animal Control Office that enforces laws for dogs and cats running at large in the city. All

•Each family is allowed two two-day yard sales per calendar year. You don’t have to get a permit before you

Caleb Michaels lives a fairly regular life as a 16-year-old champion running back in this novel by Lauren
Shippen. However, once Caleb starts experiencing wild mood swings, his life becomes much stranger. Caleb finds
out he is an “Atypical”, a person with enhanced abilities. He can feel the emotions of everyone around him. Caleb's
life becomes even more complex when he meets Adam. As Caleb regularly sees his therapist(治疗专家), Dr Bright,
he learns more about himself, his feelings for Adam and his abilities in this science fiction novel.
