After we left our hotel, we stepped out into a sandstorm that morning. Luckily, many of our group were well-prepared with facemasks and caps. I, on the other hand, was not as equipped. I should have learned about the conditions there better. This was, admittedly, the low-point of the trip, but reparation(补偿) was made that evening with a trip to an amazing cultural show, fittingly called “Silk Road”. This was a more interesting take on the Silk Road’s history, using dance and song to show the vivid cultural traditions and artistic legacies(遗产) of Dunhuang and the Silk Road. It was a fully amusing evening. The next day’s visit to the Mogao Caves was certainly the highlight of the trip. From the outside, they look perfectly ordinary. But upon entering the dry, cool caves, it’s as though you’ve been taken to another world: it’s a great place of ancient artwork with 45,000 square metres of murals and statues, making it the world’s largest collection of Buddhist art. Many of the original pink-coloured paints have turned black. Our guide said, “The painters spent much of their lives painting in the near-dark, guided only by rays of natural light and dim oil lamps, and as such, most went blind.” Out of the darkness of the caves, we stepped into the blinding light of the Gobi, with a view of the Yueyaquan, nestled in the desert bowl, for an afternoon of sand-boarding and camel rides --- Silk Road style. Thankfully, the journey back was a more modern mode of transportation, and we were all aboard a sleepover train back to Lanzhou, settling into our comfortable bunk beds within their purple and gold Apsara-motif cabins, and gently rocked to sleep. 24. What do we know about the author before the trip? A. She had done preparations carefully. B. She didn’t really look forward to the trip. C. She hadn’t expected to experience a sandstorm. D. She had learned very well about Dunhuang. 25. What did the author most probably think of the show? A. It was the low-point of the whole trip. B. It failed to tell much about Dunhuang. C. It ignored some cultural traditions of Dunhuang. D. It introduced the Silk Road in an entertaining way. 26. What can we learn from the guide’s words? A. The Mogao Caves’ artwork is representative of Buddhist art. B. Creating the Mogao Caves’ artwork was very challenging. C. The ancient artwork at the Mogao Caves was famous. D. The Mogao Caves’ artwork needed protection. 27. How did the group end their trip? A. They enjoyed sand-boarding and camel rides. B. They experienced the “Silk Road” lifestyle. C. They spent a night camping out. D. They visited the Mogao Caves. C According to a survey, the waste of food on the dining table occupies 10% of the total grain output. Last week Meituan co-published a proposal with a number of business organizations, calling on restaurants to stop food waste and help develop new eating habits for customers. “Restaurants should use official accounts on social media and live-streaming to promote and advocate food-saving actions,” the proposal said. Meituan and the organizations are advocating that merchants offer guidance for consumers, including reminding them during the ordering process about the taste of the ingredients, portion sizes and other information about the dishes, to help them avoid food waste due to misleading information. Catering associations in more than 18 provinces have also joined the campaign to remove food waste. The Wuhan Catering Association proposed an “N-1” ordering code for restaurants in which a group of 10 diners would only order enough for nine people. More food is only brought to the table if required. It has inspired people to rethink their relationship with food and waste. On Friday, the China Cuisine Association announced that it had teamed up with Ele. me, a food delivery platform, to launch a “half-dish plan", encouraging restaurants to provide customers with the option to order smaller portions. Besides, customers are encouraged to take their leftovers home. To reduce food waste on social media platforms, some popular video platforms have stepped up content reviews of food-related live streams and implemented regulation of online eating shows. Now, if users search certain keywords, such as “eating show" or “competitive eaters", a cautionary message pops up to remind them to cherish food and keep a reasonable diet. 28. What is the purpose of the proposal mentioned in the passage? A. To monitor food sales on social media and live-streaming. B. To expand the business and competitive ability of Meituan. C. To encourage restaurants to take measures to reduce food waste. D. To promote cooperation between Meituan and other organizations. 29. How is Paragraph 3 developed? A. By doing a survey. B. By offering analysis. C. By making comparisons. D. By giving an example. 30. What is the suggestion for consumers in the passage? A. Purchasing their favorite food. B. Buying proper amounts of food. C. Following some competitive eaters. D. Leaving their leftovers in the restaurant. 31. What does the underlined phrase “pops up” in the last paragraph mean? A. Appears unexpectedly. B. Spreads widely. C. Moves quickly. D. Fades slowly. D The Japanese government, citizens and groups are debating what to do with radioactive water from the disabled nuclear power plant near Fukushinma. An earthquake on March 11, 2011 caused severe damage to three of the six nuclear reactors at the Fukushinma Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Since then, Japanese officials have been trying to contain and clear up the damage. The Associated Press recently observed the decontamination(净化) process taking place there. Officials are trying to decide what to do with 1.2 million tons of radioactive water being stored at Fukushinma. The nuclear center is operated by the Tokyo Electric Power Co. , or TEPCO. The company says it needs to free up space as work on the damaged reactors reaches an important point. Many people expect TEPCO to slowly release the water into the ocean near the nuclear center. The government has already approved the plan. However, it is not clear when the company will carry out the plan. Local people oppose it because that could hurt the fishing industry. Sales of fish caught off the coast near Fukushinma are half what they were before the nuclear disaster. Fish caught in the area have been approved for sale after radioactivity testing by health officials. TEPCO Chief Decommissioning Officer Akira Ono said the water must be removed. He says crews need the space currently occupied by the water tanks. In their place, workers will set up structures to hold melted reactor wreckage(反应堆残骸). People wear protective clothing and head coverings to work in the most radioactive areas around the nuclear center. But underground conditions remain dangerous and radioactive water is leaking from the melted reactors and mixing with groundwater. This water is being pumped into containers to keep it from flowing into the sea. The polluted water from underground is processed and filtered to remove dangerous radioactive elements. Tritium(氚) is the only radioactive material that remains. Japan's industry ministry and nuclear officials say tritium is not harmful in small amounts. However, although officials try to ease public fear, there are worries that fish might be affected if the water is released into the sea. 32. What do we know from the text? A. The Fukushinma disaster was caused by humans. B. Tons of radioactive water has been leaked into the ocean. C. Melted reactor wreckage will take up most of the region. D. Japan is struggling with the clean-up of radioactive pollution. 33. What does the underlined word "it” in Paragraph 3 refer to? A. Making room for the damaged reactors. B. Releasing the water into the nearby ocean. C. Filtering the water near the nuclear center. D. Storing the radioactive water in the nuclear center. 34. What does the text say about the material tritium from the fifth paragraph? A. It can be found in the polluted water. B. It has aroused great panic among residents. C. It does no harm to fish. D. It exists in a solid form. 35. What does the text imply? A. The groundwater has been severely polluted in Fukushinma. B. People in Fukushinma used to earn their living by fishing. C. It is hard for the authorities to earn the public's trust. D. It is unclear when TEPCO will remove the radioactive water. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。 How to Realize Your True Potential Every human being, regardless of race, sex, or any other characteristic, has the incredible capacity to realize their potential. 36 , there are several steps you can make on your path to this realization.
