第一节 (共 15 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Which country can you travel to in 2020 that will allow you to go for longer, enjoy a higher standard, and save
more money? The following destinations offer accommodation, transportation, and food for less.
Kyrgyzstan, $25/day
Kyrgyzstan is the choice for most travelers interested in trying out Central Asia, and most well-suited to
travelers of all budgets. Food is cheap, so is getting around using the minibuses. You can find hostels and local home
stays for less than $10. Meals cost $4 – $8 per day.
Romania, $33/day
If you are planning a European trip that’s affordable and a little bit off the beaten path, Romania is perfect for
you. Unlike other popular places, many charming towns here remain unknown to most foreigners. You can also take
free walking tours in the numerous historical sites. Hostels run $10 – $15 per night, food is hearty and delicious, and
the public transportation is reliable and affordable. Meals cost $10 – $15 per day.
Arizona & Utah, $55/day
For an American Southwest road trip, you’ll spend an average of $110/day when you are alone. If you have just
one other person, you’d be able to cut the costs almost perfectly in half. If you have two other people along, take it
down to one third and so on. The more the better.
South Africa, $40/day
Any hostels in South Africa are in beautiful settings and each has a unique personality, and affordable too.
Food can get expensive. To save money, cook your own food. Grocery stores are plentiful and have reasonable prices.
By at least cooking your own breakfast, you can save a lot of money. The best (and possibly cheapest) way to get
around the country is to rent a car and share with 3 other people. Meals cost $12 – $15 per day.
1.What makes Romania different from the other places?
A.Nice hostels. B.Delicious food. C.Less-visited towns. D.Cheap transportation.
2.What may the author suggest for travelling in South Africa?
A.Cook your own breakfast. B.Find unique travel partners.
C.Stay in excellent hotels. D.Drive your own cars.
3.What feature do the four destinations share?

The other day, my parents stopped by and dropped off a birthday gift to me. After the visit I watched my parents
walking down my front steps toward their car. My father took my mother by the arm and slowly and carefully helped
her step down the small steps, which hit me really hard. It has been happening slowly over the years. Because my
own life has been going through so much change (my kids have grown up and moved out over these years), I had
somehow simply failed to notice just how much my own parents were aging.
As a child we see our dads as these big strong men who work hard, protect us, and just take care of things. We see
our moms as our caretakers who are always there to make sure our needs are attended to so we always know we are
loved. All through my growing up they looked the same to me. That is how they have always seemed to me. Now I
see a little gray haired mom who is fragile and breakable, and I see a gray haired father who walks a little slower
than he once did.
The thought made me break into tears. And I realize I need to spend more time with my parents. I need to make
sure I get their advice now on the things I should know for the future so I don't waste my chance to get it while they
are still both here with me. I need to ask them to tell me more stories about their own life and all the lessons they
have learned. Let's all make an effort to make more time for them and make sure they feel appreciated while we still
have them with us.
4.Why did the author refer to her parents' visit?
A.Her parents bought a special gift for her. B.She was longing for her parents' coming.
C.She overlooked her parents getting old. D.Her parents seldom came to her house.
5.What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A.The author has raised her kids on her own. B.The author hardly pays a visit to her parents.
C.The author has a poor relationship with her kids. D.The author felt guilty while watching her parents.

7.Which is the proper title for the passage?
A.Aging Is Really a Fact We Have to Accept B.Learn More from Parents While They Are Clear
C.Love Your Parents Before They Get Too Old D.Accompany Your Parents Before It's Too Late

The problem of robocalls has gotten so bad that many people now refuse to pick up calls from numbers they
don’t know. By next year, half of the calls we receive will be scams (欺诈). We are finally waking up to the severity
of the problem by supporting and developing a group of tools, apps and approaches intended to prevent scammers
from getting through. Unfortunately, it’s too little, too late. By the time these “solutions” (解决方案) become widely
available, scammers will have moved onto cleverer means. In the near future, it’s not just going to be the number you
see on your screen that will be in doubt. Soon you will also question whether the voice you’re hearing is actually
real.
That’s because there are a number of powerful voice manipulation (处理) and automation technologies that are
about to become widely available for anyone to use. At this year’s I/O Conference, a company showed a new voice
technology able to produce such a convincing human-sounding voice that it was able to speak to a receptionist and
book a reservation without detection.
These developments are likely to make our current problems with robocalls much worse. The reason that
robocalls are a headache has less to do with amount than precision. A decade of data breaches ( 数 据 侵 入 ) of
personal information has led to a situation where scammers can easily learn your mother’s name, and far more.
Armed with this knowledge, they’re able to carry out individually targeted campaigns to cheat people. This means,
for example, that a scammer could call you from what looks to be a familiar number and talk to you using a voice
that sounds exactly like your bank teller’s, tricking you into “confirming” your address, mother’s name, and card
number. Scammers follow money, so companies will be the worst hit. A lot of business is still done over the phone,
and much of it is based on trust and existing relationships. Voice manipulation technologies may weaken that
gradually.
We need to deal with the insecure nature of our telecom networks. Phone carriers and consumers need to work
together to find ways of determining and communicating what is real. That might mean either developing a uniform
way to mark videos and images, showing when and who they were made by, or abandoning phone calls altogether
and moving towards data-based communications — using apps like FaceTime or WhatsApp, which can be tied to
your identity.
Credibility is hard to earn but easy to lose, and the problem is only going to get harder from here on out.
38. How does the author feel about the solutions to the problem of robocalls?
A. Panicked. B. Confused.
C. Embarrassed. D. Disappointed.
39. Taking advantage of the new technologies, scammers can ______.
A. aim at victims precisely B. damage databases easily
C. start campaigns rapidly D. spread information widely
40. What does the passage imply?
A. Honesty is the best policy. B. Technologies can be double-edged.
C. There are more solutions than problems. D. Credibility holds the key to development.
41. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. Where the Problem of Robocalls Is Rooted B. Who Is to Blame for the Problem of Robocalls
C. Why Robocalls Are About to Get More Dangerous D. How Robocalls Are Affecting the World of Technology
D
By the end of the century, if not sooner, the world’s oceans will be bluer and greener thanks to a warming climate,
according to a new study.
At the heart of the phenomenon lie tiny marine microorganisms (海洋微生物) called phytoplankton. Because of
the way light reflects off the organisms, these phytoplankton create colourful patterns at the ocean surface. Ocean
colour varies from green to blue, depending on the type and concentration of phytoplankton. Climate change will
fuel the growth of phytoplankton in some areas, while reducing it in other spots, leading to changes in the ocean’s
appearance.
Phytoplankton live at the ocean surface, where they pull carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) into the ocean while giving
off oxygen. When these organisms die, they bury carbon in the deep ocean, an important process that helps to
regulate the global climate. But phytoplankton are vulnerable to the ocean’s warming trend. Warming changes key
characteristics of the ocean and can affect phytoplankton growth, since they need not only sunlight and carbon
dioxide to grow, but also nutrients.
Stephanie Dutkiewicz, a scientist in MIT’s Center for Global Change Science, built a climate model that
projects changes to the oceans throughout the century. In a world that warms up by 3°C, it found that multiple
changes to the colour of the oceans would occur. The model projects that currently blue areas with little
phytoplankton could become even bluer. But in some waters, such as those of the Arctic, a warming will make
conditions riper for phytoplankton, and these areas will turn greener. “Not only are the quantities of phytoplankton in
the ocean changing”, she said, “but the type of phytoplankton is changing.”
And why does that matter? Phytoplankton are the base of the food web. If certain kinds begin to disappear from
the ocean. Dutkiewicz said, “it will change the type of fish that will be able to survive. ” Those kinds of changes
could affect the food chain.

Whatever colour changes the ocean experiences in the coming decades will probably be too gradual and
unnoticeable, but they could mean significant changes. “It’ll be a while before we can statistically show that the
changes are happening because of climate change.” Dutkiewicz said, “but the change in the colour of the ocean will
be one of the early warning signals that we really have changed our planet.”
42. What are the first two paragraphs mainly about?
A. The various patterns at the ocean surface.
B. The cause of the changes in ocean colour.
C. The way light reflects off marine organisms.
D. The efforts to fuel the growth of phytoplankton.
43. What does the underlined word “vulnerable” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Sensitive. B. Beneficial. C. Significant. D. Unnoticeable.
44. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Phytoplankton play a declining role in the marine ecosystem.
B. Dutkiewicz’s model aims to project phytoplankton changes.
C. Phytoplankton have been used to control global climate.
D. Oceans with more phytoplankton may appear greener.
45. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To assess the consequences of ocean colour changes.
B. To analyse the composition of the ocean food chain.
C. To explain the effects of climate change on oceans.
D. To introduce a new method to study phytoplankton.

第二节 读后续写(满分 25 分)

It was an Art lesson. Rachel sat at the desk watching her classmates busy preparing the water jars and paints.
She understood why Mrs. Weston asked her to sit down and got Lisa to fetch everything for her. It was always a
disaster when Rachel tried to do Art!
Rachel sighed and reached out to dip her brush in some black paint and—oh, no! She knocked over the jar. The
water spread across the desk and drowned the paper. Lisa called Mrs. Weston to see what Rachel had done. Rachel
went red in the face. She jumped to her feet to get a cloth. Her chair fell over backwards. She turned round and her
paint brush caught Lisa across the face, giving her a black moustache. Lisa was so surprised that she fell back against
a wire book stand. It came crashing down and the books went all over the floor.
How clumsy! Rachel thought as she went home on the bus. The bus stopped outside her house. She jumped up
and her elbow (肘部) knocked a woman’s hat right over her eyes. Oh, no! Rachel said sorry, got off and ran indoors.

There were beautiful things everywhere—pretty china figures and delicate vases. Rachel stood very still, afraid of
knocking something over. Mrs. Willow handed Rachel a small brown bottle. Rachel couldn’t wait to get away,
feeling any minute there would be a disaster. She thanked her and turned to the door when something brushed

With a smile Mrs. Willow comforted her saying it had been broken before. Rachel sighed and stared at her. “I did,
when I was young. You couldn’t have been as clumsy as I was.” Mrs. Willow said, her sharp blue eyes shining.
“Keep telling yourself you are a swan and it will work.” Rachel doubtfully said that several times. After they cleared

was a kind of magic. Rachel smiled.

W: OK, I guess you are right. It’s better we see as many sites as possible.

W: I followed a few Internet influencers on Sina Weibo and Li Ziqi is one of them. She has just uploaded another
video. Would you like to take a look?
M: Internet influencers? You mean those pretty young ladies who are often trying to sell something at the end of the
video? Honestly, I’m not that interested.
W: Come on, I know the phrase “Internet influencer” sometimes has a negative meaning, but I believe you will
change your mind after watching her videos and know her story.
M: OK, tell me more about her.
W: She was born in 1990 and blew up in 2017 and gained international attraction in 2019. Up to now she has had
over 7 million followers on YouTube and more than 25 million on Sina Weibo.

M: Wow, that’s quite something. She must have done something extraordinary.
W: You bet. She is known for creating food and handicraft preparation videos in her hometown of rural Sichuan. She
strictly follows the traditional steps and procedures in creating, often from basic ingredients and with tools using
traditional Chinese techniques. Besides, she performs the work of a farmer with the grace of a fairy.
M: Sounds interesting. So what is her latest video about?
W: It’s called Turning a Soybean Seed into a Drop of Soy Sauce.
M: I can’t wait to see it.

W: Oh, not again. It’s already 9: 00 in the morning. How could you still be asleep? Don’t you see the rubbish needs
taking out, the flowers need watering and the dog...
M: I’m always so tired after working all week. I just need to get some shut-eye.
W: But you used to go jogging in the park during weekends and you told me exercise can help ease tiredness, and
that sleeping too much is not a healthy lifestyle.
M: I know. That makes sense. Maybe I need a change.
W: Good. Why don’t you join me in the bakery class every Sunday? I’ve been taking it for two months and it’s really
useful.
M: When will we leave home for that class?
W: It starts at 10: 00 so I always leave home at 9: 30.
M: 9: 30? You mean you were not home at that time? How come I didn’t know that?
W: Yes. Because you are always sleeping and I come back home before you wake up.
M: Emm, 9: 30? I think I will pass. Honey, I’m a little hungry and when you come back, can you make an apple pie
for me for lunch? You made one last week and I wondered where you got the recipe. Now I’ve got the answer. By
the way, you’re gonna be late for the bakery class.

M: Alice, as a new host, the first rule I need you to know is that no mobile phones are allowed in the studio. We can’t
have them ringing when we’re broadcasting. I’m afraid you have to keep it switched off the whole day.
W: But I’m expecting an important call from my father and how can I check the latest football scores and I want to
send a text to Dan and...
M: Alice, are you OK? You’re sweating and I think you’ve got NOMOPHOBIA!
W: What is that? Oh, I’ll look it up on my phone.
M: Sorry, no phones, Alice. But I can tell you that nomophobia is the fear of not having or not being able to use your
mobile phone. I mean you’ve got smart phone addiction.
W: I guess you are right. I’m feeling quite anxious even when I am at the cinema, when my phone has to be switched
off. What can I do?
M: Relax, it’s no big deal. You can start doing small things every day in order to break the habit. I think the first
thing you can do is to turn off your phone before your bedtime. Nomophobia never sleeps and neither will you.
W: Yeah, no wonder I always feel tired. But what should I do during day time?
M: Instead of holding it in your hand and checking it every few minutes, the next thing is to set a certain time to
check your phone, which is also helpful for you to concentrate on your work. And last, try to spend real time with
your family and friends rather than connecting with them over social media.
W: Your suggestions are really helpful. I feel much better now.
M: Good, switch off your phone and take a deep breath. Let’s finish today’s broadcast and enjoy the time without
being distracted by your phone.
