(2021·威海高考模拟)When people think about British music, for the most part they
think about the 60s or 70s with the likes of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones or
more modern artists like Adele or Ed Sheeran. However, stuck between these two
ages was, in my opinion, British music's best period. The 90s were an optimistic time
for Britain and indeed Europe, with the economy recovering from the lows of the 80s
and the Cold War ending.
One of the defining features of the 90s music was the birth of “Britpop”. This was a
style of pop music that aimed to promote “Britishness” and monly featured electric
guitars, drums and male singers. Britpop was the style used by world-famous bands
such as Oasis, Blur, Pulp and Suede who became known as “The Big Four ”. The
summer of 1995 was dominated by the“Battle of Britpop”which was between Blur
and Oasis for the number one spot. Eventually, Blur won the battle and Oasis settled
for second best.
However, the 90s weren't only for the boys, with major female groups also finding
fame, the most well-known of which were “The Spice Girls” who were extremely
popular in Britain and around the world. Once again they promoted “Britishness”
and had catchy melodies and lyrics, but they also started the “ Girl Power ”
movement which helped empower girls and women worldwide. It isn't too far to

assume that without their music, many female singers and artists who we love today
would not have had the confidence to pursue their dream.
British music may have had many great times, however, the 90s are often overlooked.
Although I was not alive to enjoy the music properly, the 90s had a huge impact on
British culture that can be felt today and I feel that the decade should get the
recognition it deserves!

(2021·某某临考强化)A half century ago, vegetarian (avoiding flesh foods) and vegan
(consuming no animal products) diets were viewed with concern by some
professionals. Charlie Wilson, a knowledgeable dietitian once wrote in his book,
“Even if it's tasty and green, plant-based food should be the last option for the love
of our body.”In decades since, these have been the focus of vast amounts of research.
Today, a dietary shift in the direction of plant foods is regarded as a very positive step
by nutritional scientists and by a growing number of the general public.
Actually, the shift is pletely good news for our body. Two areas of well-designed
research centred on health conscious individuals with different dietary patterns, all of
whom were in good physical condition at the beginning of the study and who were
followed for many years, are shown in the chart below.

favourable outes. Plants provide all the protein, minerals, and essential fats that fuel
our brain. The plant world gives us every nutrient we need apart from vitamin B12,
which always originates from bacteria in anyone's diet.
Going plant-based can be both frugal and delicious. Whether you choose meat
-free Mondays or are entirely plant-based all week, you can save some serious cash.
Also, one needs to explore new sections of the supermarket, learn a few kitchen skills
and seek out different restaurants. Because vegan food preparation is a peak interest
for many chefs and very tasty plant-based protein sources have been developed,
making a change might be an inviting adventure. Yet, for most people, especially
those meat-lovers, it's a tough transformation. So knowing how to change yourself
to the new situation in advance is of great help.

(2020 · 某 某 省 第 一 次 模 拟 )Organic food is very popular. It is also expensive. Some
organic food costs twice as much as non-organic food, but new parents and pet
owners are willing to pay up to 200% more for organic food. However, there are
people who think it is a waste of money.
There is one main difference between organic and non-organic food. Organic farms
do not use agricultural chemicals, such as pesticides ( 杀 虫 剂 ). In many countries
organic foods have special labels. These guarantee that the products are natural.
Some people think organic means locally grown. Originally this was true. Over time
organic farming became more difficult. The demand for organic food grew larger

than the supply. Small panies had to sell out to large panies. There weren't enough
organic ingredients (原料), such as grain and cattle. This made it difficult for many
organic panies to stay in business. Today, many large panies have an organic line of
products.
Is organic food more nutritious? This is part of the debate. Many farmers and
consumers believe it is. They think agricultural chemicals cause health problems such
as cancer. Many health professionals disagree. Few studies prove that organic foods
prevent health problems. Health specialists worry more about bacteria (细菌), such as
E. coli and salmonellA. These can get into contact with organic and non-organic
food. Doctors remend washing produce very carefully. Handling meat carefully is
important too.
Most people agree that naturally grown food tastes better. Is tastier food worth the
extra money? This is a matter of opinion. Whether it is healthier or not may require
more research. However, organic consumers argue that it is better to be safe than
sorry.

(2021·某某第一次诊断性检测)The Slow Food Movement started in Rome, Italy in 1986.
When a new McDonald's was opening near a beautiful historic place, some people
stood outside the restaurant and shouted, “We do not want fast food, we want slow
food!”
16One day Carlo Petrini went to a restaurant to eat a traditional meal. But the food
didn't taste the same as he remembered. He learned that the peppers were shipped
from abroad because the prices were low. This deeply concerned Carlo.
Carlo wanted people to care about where their foods came from and how their
foods made their culture special. So he started a group to encourage this ideA. It
soon became the Slow Food Movement. 17
First, what is good food? Good food is fresh. The vegetables are eaten close to the
place where they are grown. The fish hasn't been sitting for days before it is eaten.
Good food is seasonable. 18 Good food satisfies the senses. It should look good,
smell good and taste good. And finally, good food is cultural food. Each country has

special foods that make it different.
Second, food should be clean. Today, there are great concerns about the way
people grow and produce food. Farmers use chemicals to kill insects and feed
plants. But the chemicals can also harm the natural environment around farms. 19
Clean food means food that does not harm our bodies or the environment.
And third, food should be fair. 20 All people should be able to purchase healthy food.
The people who grow and make food should be paid fairly for their work. They
should work in safe, healthy conditions.
A.Food should not cost too much money.
B.Its goal is to have good, clean, fair food for all people.
C.Over time, they can cause health problems in people too.
D.That was how the Slow Food Movement came into being.
E.It should be grown at the best time of the year for that food.
F.Today the Slow Food Movement has already expanded out of Italy.
