For most people, graduation is an exciting day,but my
graduation day was not.
I remember that weekend two years ago.My parents and
many friends came to 1 the celebration. But just like
everyone else in my class,I had watched the economy turn
from bad to worse in my senior year.Almost all of us graduates
had degrees,but very uncertain 2 .
The weeks ahead weren't 3 .I knew my small
university town couldn't offer me any opportunities, 4 I
packed up my car and drove to Southern California to find
work. But what I thought would take a week dragged into two,
and then four, and 100 job applications later,I found myself
in the exact same 5 as I was before.
You know that feeling when you wake up in 6 ?That
feeling became a constant in my life.
Days felt like weeks, weeks like months, and those many
months felt like everlasting 7 .And the most annoying part
was no matter how much I tried,I just couldn't seem to make
any progress.
8 what did I do to keep my good sense?I decided to
write.Something about putting words on a page made 9
seem a little clearer—a little brighter.Something about writing
gave me hope.
And if you want something badly enough, sometimes a little
hope is all you 10 !I put my dissatisfaction into a
children's book.Beyond the River was the story of a little fish,
who 11 to give up his dream.
And then one day, 12 any sort of writing degree or
contacts in the writing world—just a lot of hard work and
determination—I was offered a publishing contract(合同) for
my first book!
After that, things slowly began to fall into place.I was offered
a second book deal.Then, 13 months later,I got an
interview with the Walt Disney Company and was hired(雇用)
shortly after.
Don't give up.Even if things look 14 now,don't give
up.If you work hard, things will always get better.Often times
our dreams lie in wait just a little further upstream…all we need
is the 15 to push beyond the river.

Many people know that rubbish is a big problem on planet
Earth. What many people don't know is that junk has become a
problem in outer space too.
According to BBC News, there are more than 22‚000
pieces of space junk floating around the earth. And these are just
the things that we can see from the surface of the earth by
telescopes(望远镜).There are also millions of smaller pieces of
junk that we can't see.
Objects, like bits of old space rockets or satellites, move
around the planet at very high speeds,so fast that even a very
small piece can break important satellites or become dangerous to
astronauts. If the tiniest piece of junk crashed into a spaceship,it
could damage the vehicle.
To make things worse, when two objects in space crash,
they break into many smaller pieces. For example, when a US
satellite hit an old Russian rocket in 2009,it broke into more than
2‚000 pieces, increasing the amount of space junk.
To reduce additional space junk, countries have agreed that
all new space tools can only stay in space for 25 years at most. Each
tool must be built to fall safely into the earth's atmosphere after that
time.In the upper parts of the atmosphere,it will burn up.
Many scientists are also suggesting different ways to clean up
space junk.In England scientists are testing a metal net that can be
fired into space junk. The net catches the junk and then pulls it into
the earth's atmosphere to burn up.
The Germans are building robots that can collect pieces of
space junk and bring them back to Earth to be safely destroyed.
“The problem is becoming more challenging because we're
sending more objects into space to help people use their mobile
phones and computers,”says Marco Castronuovo,an Italian
space researcher.
“The time to act is now.The longer we leave the problem,
the bigger it will become,” he says.

We all need a healthy environment, but we make waste every
day and it is bad for our environment. Here are some ideas for us to
live in a green life.
Remember these three words:reduce, reuse and recycle.
Reduce means “use less”.Don't waste things. This saves money
and reduces pollution. Before we buy something new, think if it is
really necessary or that maybe the old one is just as good!
Reuse means “use again”.Use things for a long time if
possible. We should take care of them so that they will last, and
we should repair them if they are broken instead of throwing them
away and buying new ones.
Recycle means “change something into something
else”.Although it takes energy to do so,it's better than throwing
things away or burning them.Find out what can be recycled in
your neighborhood and take part in recycling programs.

请以“Saying No to Plastics”为题,写一
Saying No to Plastics
As we know, plastics, which have seriously polluted our
world,can be seen everywhere.
Actually,I use plastics too much in my daily life. Now I have
come to realize that it's a terribly bad habit.I'm supposed to reduce
the use of plastics and everyone can do this. For example,we
should use a cloth bag or a basket instead while shopping.More
importantly, even if we need to use plastic bags,we should
recycle and make full use of them.
All in all,we should reduce the use of plastics so that we
can hopefully protect the earth and make it greener.Do you
think I am right?
