Divide the students into two groups. Let a boy student and a girl student stand as models and the other students ask and answer about the different parts of the body. Group One: (One points to the boy student's neck and Group One students ask together.) What is it? Group Two: It's his neck. (One student from Group Two points to the girl student's nose and Group Two students ask together.) What is it? Group One: It's her nose. Go on practicing in this way several times. Step II Presentation a. Look and say The teacher touches her / his own body and presents the words of different parts of the body: shoulder, elbow, finger, knee, toe and stomach. b. Point and learn Point to the body parts that are near and say: "These are ____." And point to the body parts that are far and say: "Those are ____." Say the plural nouns with stresses. T: (Point to my own fingers.) What are these? These are elbows? Ss: No. Fingers. T: Yes. These are fingers. Ss: These are fingers. T: (Point to a student's fingers.) What are those? Those are fingers, too? Ss: Yes. T: Those are his fingers. Explain these and those in Chinese if necessary. Step III Practice a. Listen to the tape and repeat. b. Ask and answer. The teacher asks and answers with the whole class or several students about the words of the body parts. And then let the students ask and answer in pairs. A sample dialogue: S1: What is it? S2: It's stomach. What are these? S3: These are toes. c. Play Simon says. Some students stand in the front of the classroom. One of the others tells them to touch parts of their bodies, but if he or she says "Simon says" first. Step IV Presentation a. Draw and present Draw a big mouth and a little mouth on the blackboard and present big and little. T: (Point to the big mouth.) This is a big mouth. Big. Ss: Big. T: (Point to the little mouth.) This is a little mouth. Little. Ss: Little. In the same way, present long and short. b. Look and say. Compare other big and little objects, long and short objects and practice big, little, long and short. Step V Practice a. Listen to the tape and repeat Explain the plural form of foot is feet. b. Draw and say Let the students draw a cartoon picture and compare with other students' cartoons by using big, little, long and short. Step VI Presentation and practice a. Listen and touch. Let the students listen to the song and touch the body parts as they hear. b. Touch and say. Let several students touch their bodies. And let other students say the words. c. Listen and sing. Follow each line of the song, and touch the body parts at the same time. d. Practice singing the song in groups and show. Step VII Homework a. Finish the exercises in the activity book. b. Listen to the tape and repeat. c. Preview Lesson 19.
