The building next door was only a few feet away from mine. There was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met, yet I could see her seated by her window each afternoon, sewing or reading. After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear through the dirty window .I would say to myself, “I wonder why that woman doesn’t wash her window .It really looks terrible.”One bright morning I decided to clean my flat, including washing the window on the inside. Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible. Her window was clean! Then it dawned on me. I had been criticizing(批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers through my own dirty window. That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the dirty window of my heart, through my own shortcomings?  Since then, whenever I wanted to judge(评判) someone, I asked myself first ,“Am I looking at him through my own dirty window?” Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world about me more clearly.56. The writer couldn’t see everything clearly through the window because_____. A. the woman’s window was dirty     B. the writer’s window was dirtyC. the woman lived nearby         D. the writer was near-sighted57. “It dawned on me” probably means “______”. A. I began to understand it         B. it cheered me upC. I knew it grew light           D. it began to get dark58. It’s clear that________.A. the writer often washed the window  B. they lived in a small townC. they both worked as cleaners     D. the writer had never met the woman before 59. From the passage, we can learn_________.A. one shouldn’t criticize others very often B. one should often make his windows cleanC. one must judge himself before he judges othersD. one must look at others through his dirty windowBThe following are four books that will help you change your mind and change your life.1) You Can Heal Your Life, Louise Hay: A groundbreaking book when it was released in 1982. It is still the book that I turn to when I have physical unrest that requires deeper understanding. Louise Hay is the pioneer in looking at the connection between the physical unrest that we have in our body and the emotional connection. At the time that she wrote the book many people scoffed(嘲笑) at this idea, but it is now widely accepted and millions of people refer to it on a daily basis.2) The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz: Maintaining a sense of reliability and faith is developed through understanding to The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz written in 1997. We are faced with rules and regulations; don’t do this, don’t do that, watch what you are doing, be kind, loyal, faithful etc. The four agreements represent a simple system of maintaining your own inner authority while practicing being a true person with other people.3) Slowing Down to the Speed of Life, Richard Carlson and Joseph Bailey: This is a new one in my “bedside collection” and one that has made the biggest impact on me lately. Written in 1997, it is even more relevant today than it was when it was written. The idea of “slowing down” to get there faster was extremely hard for me to understand. As a human species we seem to enjoy moving fast and expecting quick results, especially from ourselves. I should be successful now, I should be slim now, get me to my destination now—in contrast to “in the fullness of time” when I am ready.4) The Game of Life and How to Play It, Florence Scovel-Shinn: A classic book that was first published in 1925 and remains one of my favorite books of all time. Scovel-Shinn understood the power of our words to express either our deepest desires or our most horrible nightmares. So where does this leave you? The way I see it is if you want to ‘Heal Your Life” then you had better learn how to play “The Game of Life” by learning how to “Slow Down to the Speed of Life” and keep the “Four Agreements”. The solution may not be easy to do but it is simple. In fact, most solutions are pretty simple, and it is us humans that want to complicate it.60. According to the author, people who are lacking in personal freedom should read______.A. You Can Heal Your Life     B. The Four AgreementsC. Slowing Down to the Speed of Life  D. The Game of Life and How to Play It61. Which of the following books did the author read most recently?A. Slowing Down to the Speed of Life   B. The Four AgreementsC. You Can Heal Your Life    D. The Game of Life and How to Play It62. In which part of a magazine would you probably find this passage?A. Arts & Entertainment       B. Reference & EducationC. Book Reviews         D. Self Improvement63. In the author’s opinion, the four books _______.A. represent four stages of life    B. represent four attitudes      C. tell us four interesting stories   D. offer four ways to change our life and mindCSpring is coming, and it is time for those about to graduate to look for jobs. Competition is tough, so job seekers must carefully consider their personal choices. Whatever we are wearing, our family and friends may accept us, but the workplace may not. A high school newspaper editor said it is unfair for companies to discourage visible tattoos(纹身), nose rings, or certain dress styles. It is  true you can't judge a book by its cover, yet people do “cover” themselves in order to convey certain messages. What we wear, including tattoos and nose rings, is an expression of who we are. Just as people convey messages about themselves with their appearances, so do companies. Dress standards exist in the business world for a number of reasons, but the main concern is often about what customers accept.    Others may say how to dress is a matter of personal freedom, but for businesses it is more about whether to make or lose money. Most employers do care about the personal appearances of their employees, because those people represent the companies to their customer. As a hiring manager I am paid to choose the people who would make the best impression on our customers. There are plenty of well-qualified candidates, so it is not wrong to reject someone who might disappoint my customers. Even though I am open-minded, I can't expect all our customers are. There is nobody to blame but yourself if your set of choices does not match that of your preferred employer. No company should have to change to satisfy a candidate simply because he or she is unwilling to respect its standards, as long as its standards are legal.64.Which of the following is the newspaper editor's opinion according to Paragraph 2?A.People's appearances carry messages about themselves.B.Customers' choices influence dress standards in companies.C.Candidates with tattoos or nose rings should be fairly treated.D.Strange dress styles should not be encouraged in the workplace.65.What can be inferred from the text?   A.Candidates have to wear what companies prefer for an interview.B.What to wear is not a matt er of personal choice for companies.C.Companies sometimes have to change to respect their candidates. D.Hiring managers make the best impression on their candidates.66.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?                        A.Employees Matter     B.Personal Choices MatterC.Appearances Matter     D.Hiring Managers Matter67.The author's attitude towards strange dress styles in the workplace may best be described as________.                                                     A. enthusiastic         B. negative   C. positive          D. sympatheticDDrunken driving——sometimes called America's socially accepted form of murder——has become a national epidemic. Every hour of every day about three Americans on average are killed by drunken drivers, adding up to an incredible 250,000 over the past decade.A drunken driver is usually defined as one with a 0.10 blood alcohol content or roughly three beers, glasses of wine or shots of whisky drunk  within two hours. Heavy drinking used to be an acceptable  part of the American manly image and judges were lenient(宽大的) in most courts, but the drunken slaughter has recently caused so many well-publicized tragedies, especially involving young children, that public opinion is no longer so tolerant. Twenty states have raised the legal drinking age to 21. After New Jersey lowered it to 18, the number of people killed by 18-20-year-old drivers more than doubled, so the state recently upped it back to 21. Reformers, however, fear raising the drinking age will have little effect unless accompanied by educational programs to help young people to develop “responsible attitudes” about drinking and teach them to resist peer pressure to drink. Though new laws have led to increased arrests and tests and, in many areas already, to a marked decline in fatalities(灾祸), some states are also penalizing bars for serving customers too many drinks. A tavern(酒馆) in Massachusetts was fined for serving six or more double brandies (白兰地酒) to a customer who “obviously intoxicated(喝醉的)” and later drove off the road, killing a nine-year-old boy. As the fatalities continue to occur daily in every state, some Americans are even beginning to speak well of the 13 years of national prohibition of alcohol that began in 1919, what President Hoover called the “noble experiment.” They forgot that legal prohibition didn't stop drinking, but encouraged political corruption and organized crime. As with the booming drug trade generally, there is no easy solution.68. Drunken driving had become a major problem in America because ___.A. most Americans are heavy drinkers.  B. Americans are now less shocked by road accidents.C. accidents attract so much publicity.     D. drinking is a socially accepted habit in America.69.Why has public opinion regarding drunken driving changed?A. Because detailed statistics are now available.B. Because the news media have highlighted the problem.C. Because judges are giving more severe sentences.D. Because drivers are more conscious of their image.70. Laws recently introduced in some states have ___________.A. reduced the number of convictions.                      B. resulted in fewer serious accidents.C. prevented bars from serving drunken customers. D. specified the amount drivers can drink.71.Why is the problem of drinking and driving difficult to solve?A. Because alcohol is easily obtained.     B. Because drinking is linked to organized crime.C. Because legal prohibition has already failed.D. Because legislation alone is not sufficient.EAre healthy people happier than seriously ill ones? Not necessarily. In a study described in The Journal of experimental Psychology, a group of people with end-stage kidney(肾)failure were provided with electronic devices that required them to record their moods at various times throughout the day. For comparison, a group of healthy volunteers used the same devices. When researchers had studied the results, they found that the levels of happiness were about the same for the two groups. The researchers, led by Dr. Jason Riis of Princeton when he was a graduate student at the University of Michigan, also found that the healthy people greatly overestimated (高估)how unhappy the sick ones would be. And the sick  people overestimated how happy healthy ones would be.   For the study, 49 kidney disease patients who were undergoing dialysis(透析)sections three times a week were given personal digital assistants, as 49 healthy volunteers were matched to the patients by age, race, education and sex. When the devices beeped, the subjects were asked to rate their mood on a 5-point scale, with 2 defined as “very pleasant” and minus 2 defined as “very unpleasant”. On average, the kidney patients rated their mood as 0.70, while the healthy subjects rated it as 0.83. The participants were also asked to describe other emotions they might be feeling, including joy and anxiety, and to describe their levels of physical comfort. And sometimes they were asked, “How do you feel about your life as a whole?”A better understanding of how well people are able to adapt to poor health, the researchers said, could help doctors and patients make wiser choices about their medical care. Earlier studies have also found that seriously ill patients described themselves as being happy. But these patients were not given a chance to answer questions about their mood privately and repeatedly over a period of time, Dr. Riis said, and so it was unclear how accurate their responses were.72. What can be learnt from the study?A. the electronic devices used are digital assistants for dialysisB. the levels of happiness are little affected by health conditions C. all the subjects are of the same age, race, sex and educationD. both patients and healthy people overestimate their own happiness 73. In the research, the subjects’ ratings of their mood levels were ______ on average.A. vague     B. negative    C. positive   D. neutral74. One of Dr. Riis’ concerns about the result of the research was whether ______.A. it reflected what the patients really thought  B. it revealed the patients’ privacy    C. the questions for the patients were repeated  D. the assignment for all subjects was accurate75. The research was done in order to______.A. help patients adapt to poor health    B. learn patients’ average level of happinessC. find the distinction between the healthy and unhealthy people  D. define the extent to which health condition affects happiness第Ⅱ卷(非选择题,共35分)第四部分  写作(共两节,满分35分)第一节 任务型读写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词。How do you enter a room full of strangers? Do you walk right in full of confidence? Or do you try to slip in without being noticed? The way you go into new situations shows your level of self-confidence. In life, we admire those who do their tasks confidently. We prefer people who appear to know what they're doing. But where does that confidence begin?Developing self-confidence starts very early. It's parents' role to get kids on the right track toward becoming confident people. To help that process, parents should always offer more praise than criticism (批评). That can be done by focusing on the child's strengths. Parents should encourage their children to try new things and take risks. When children make mistakes, their parents should still let them know that they are loved. Children whose parents do these things will likely develop into confident adults. But self-confidence still doesn't come easily. So what's the solution? With most things in life, practice makes perfect, and that is true of confidence skills. The more you practice them, the easier they will become.Always hold your head high and look people in the eye. Answer questions clearly and confidently. The way you walk shows others how confident you are. Focus on the things that you do well, and look for opportunities to use those abilities.Keep an item in clear view that reminds you of a recent success. It could be a good test score or a prize from a contest. Remind yourself that one success often leads to the next.Prepare thoroughly for every project. You'll approach the task more confidently knowing that you're ready. All humans fail at times, and you will too. But don't allow mistakes to trouble you. Learning from mistakes helps you face the same situation later without fear.Even with practice, you will never be perfect. But you can learn to love and accept yourself and live your life with confidence.Title: (76) ________ Self-confidenceThe parent's role (77) ________ more than blame them.
