She can kick you in the pants and wipe your hard drive cleaner than a dog’s dinner plate.‎ ‎“I’ll just shoot you from behind,” I say, carrying my TV camera. It’s almost time for the 6:00 p.m. kickboxing class, and Gigabyte is the only woman learner there. She’s also something of a ‎ virus-writing genius, having started programming at age six. “I figured out how to write a few lines of code on my uncle’s Commodore 64,” says Gigabyte, who has just recently celebrated her 18th birthday. At age fourteen, she wrote her first computer worm, which took over the shutdown screens of infected users. Two years later, she wrote another powerful virus that damages MP3 files. And recently she has become the second person to write a virus in C# (pronounced “C sharp”). Her so-called “Sharpei” worm, which comes in an email attachment, infects certain files in computers. ‎ ‎ “Virus writing is so aggressive, and most reasonable people consider it an act of vandalism(蓄意破坏), or at least potential vandalism,” I say. “That’s not my problem. The users are running the virus. They are the ones clicking on it,” she says.‎ ‎“So you really think the people who execute(运行) these programs are responsible for the damage that your viruses do?” I ask. “Actually,” she says, “I think many people should have to have some sort of license to get on the Internet.” Gigabyte is quick to remind visitors that she never releases her viruses into the wild. Instead, she sends them to antivirus companies, hoping for the kind of affirmation(确认) that only comes with “high-risk”. But she also has posted her viruses on her homepage, meaning anyone else could release them. “That’s not my problem,” she says. “When people make guns, can you blame them when somebody kills somebody else with the guns? I only write them; I don’t release them. I do want to work with computers for a living, but not with an antivirus company.” ‎ ‎21. How old was Gigabyte when she wrote her first computer virus?‎ A. 6. B. 14. C. 16. D. 18.‎ ‎22. How does Gigabyte’s Sharpei worm spread from one computer to another?‎ A. It comes in an email attachment. B. It takes over the shutdown screens.‎ C. It spreads via MP3 files. D. It wipes hard drive cleaner.‎ ‎23. What is the author’s attitude to virus writing?‎ A. Supportive. B. Negative. C. Defensive. D. Positive.‎ B On a hot August morning, in a classroom overlooking New York’s Hudson River, a teacher guides a group of 3-year-olds completely in Chinese. This is just a language summer camp run by the primary school Bilingual Buds, which offers a year-round course in Chinese as well as Spanish for kids as young as 2. ‎ A lot of research now shows the regular, high-level use of more than one language may actually improve early brain development. Knowing two or more languages can improve the ability to focus, decide and deal with information better. These important skills are grouped together, known in brain terms as “executive function”. The research suggests they develop ahead of time in bilingual children, and are already evident in kids as young as 3 or 4. Bilingual education, common in many countries, is a growing trend across the United States, with 440 elementary schools offering the study in Spanish, Chinese and French. ‎ But Tamar Gollan, a professor at the University‎ of ‎California, has found a vocabulary gap between children who speak only one language and those who grow up with more. On average, the more language spoken, the smaller the vocabulary in each one. Gollan’s research suggests that while that gap narrows as children grow, it does not disappear completely. Gollan says, “Vocabulary tests help us find that bilinguals have the disadvantage, where you know the word but you just can’t get it out.”‎ In fact some of the values of bilingualism can’t be measured at all, of course. To speak more than one language is to open the mind to more than one culture or way of life. ‎ Bilinguals also appear to be better at learning other new languages. Clarisse spent her early childhood in Switzerland speaking French. At 6, she learned English. Later she learned Spanish, German, and, during three years living in Tokyo, Japanese. Now she has easily mastered several languages. ‎ ‎24. Why should children learn more than one language according to Paragraph 2?‎ A. Because it can do good to children’s brain development.‎ B. Because it’s part of a language summer camp.‎ C. Because it is common in many countries.‎ D. Because it is popular with children.‎ ‎25. The underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 probably refers to _________.‎ A. many countries B. bilingual children ‎ C. these important skills D. two or more languages ‎ ‎26. According to Tamar Gollan, __________.‎ A. knowing two or more languages can improve children’s skills B. the more languages children know, the better they will be C. children had better not take vocabulary tests D. bilingual education is not always good to children ‎27. From the passage we can learn_________.‎ A. Clarisse likes French best instead of Japanese B. bilingual education is mainly loved by children C. bilinguals can have a disadvantage in learning other new languages D. knowing more languages can help children learn more about foreign cultures ‎ C Instagram is a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your life with friends and family. Take a picture or video, choose a filter to transform its look and feel and then post it to Instagram — it’s that easy. You can even share to Facebook, Twitter and more. It’s a new way to see the world. So ‎ many photos of food are contained on Instagram — now a pop-up diner in London is taking advantage of this new trend by letting people settle the bill for their meals simply by uploading photos of their dishes to social networks.‎ I always thought people’s taking pictures of their food was kind of silly, but at this new pop-up restaurant in the UK, I’d probably do it too. “The Picture House” is the world’s first pay-by-photo restaurant — you order, click a photo of the food, share on Instagram and eat for free!‎ The restaurant belongs to frozen food giant Birds Eye, who came up with the idea to cash in on people’s addiction with photographing food and sharing the pictures online. They conducted a survey and found out that more than half of the British population regularly took pictures of their meals. So they realized it was a better way to advertise their new dining range.‎ The pop-up diner was open in Soho, London for three days in May, and is now moving to other major UK cities. They serve two-course meals that customers don’t have to pay for, if they photo and Instagram it.‎ The restaurant is a part of Birds Eye’s “Food for Life” campaign, a new marketing project that aims at changing the way people look at frozen food. “Taking photos of food enables people to show off and to share their mealtime moments — from the everyday to the special,” said marketing director Margaret Jobling.‎ The reaction to The Picture House has been great so far. And the pay-by picture concept has proven to be an effective way. Alternative payment methods are actually gaining popularity among a lot of businesses. Last year in a cafe in Germany customers pay by how much time they spend there, not by what they eat.‎ ‎28. Instagram probably is _______.‎ A. a restaurant free of charge B. a program used to share photos C. a campaign of “Food for Life” D. a new marketing project ‎29. What’s the author’s attitude to this new trend?‎ A. Confused. B. Unconcerned. C. Interested. D. Opposed.‎ ‎30. “The Picture House” encourages sharing photos of its food to ________.‎ A. raise the price of frozen food B. create a new social media trend C. attract more customers D. reward the regular customers ‎31. Which of the following can serve as the best title for the passage?‎ A. The Pop-up Diner B. Pay by Picture C. No Need to Pay D. Food for Life D ‎ Anger often makes us uncomfortable. When you find your anger too uncomfortable to process, please let it go. But remember to create a healthy anger in your children is to practice creating a healthy anger in yourself. Once you're better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy ‎ way, you'll be able to model a good style of anger for your kids.‎ ‎ Some kids deal with anger by creating a “false self”: a child who is perfect for their parents. People who have developed a false self are often passive aggressive and seem shallow because they've hid away all the feelings with depth and character.‎ ‎ How do we keep kids from creating false selves? We need to raise them in an environment where it's safe to express feelings. Once you feel more comfortable with your own anger, you can teach your children why anger is a helpful emotion. When your kid expresses anger, help them examine what it is that has made them angry. Why did it make them angry? How did it do that? Then, you can teach them that while emotions are never wrong and are always valid, our expressions of our emotions are within our control.‎ People who are afraid of their own anger will never learn how to listen to what their anger is trying to tell them. Instead of teaching our kids that their anger is wrong, that "happy families" are never angry, or that all feelings of anger lead to violence and fear, we can teach our children that anger is OK. Anger is natural, it is normal, and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.‎ ‎32. What is the main idea of the first paragraph?‎ A. Anger makes us uncomfortable.‎ B. Anger is difficult to deal with.‎ C. Parents often lose their temper at home.‎ D. Parents should model a good anger style.‎ ‎33. What would a child be like if he developed a “false self”?‎ A. Polite and optimistic. B. Perfect and helpful.‎ C. Negative and indirect. D. Rude and dishonest.‎ ‎34. What's the main purpose of the last 2 paragraphs?‎ A. To give tips to create healthier anger.‎ B. To suggest ways to avoid anger.‎ C. To show the harm anger does to kids.‎ D. To stress the importance of expressing anger.‎ ‎35. In which part of a website can we read the passage?‎ A. Food& Recipes B. Psychology & Health C. Life &Entertainment D. School & Society 第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Usually summer break provides teens with an opportunity to get away from the boring life of going to school, to visit friends and have fun with them, and to make a little extra money. The summer job market for teens can be highly competitive. Half-heartedly (不认真地)looking for a ‎ job is the quickest way to get turned down over and over. 36 ‎ ‎ 37 Look at the skills required for each. Then compare these skills with those you already have. The closer the match, the more likely you will enjoy your summer job while building a good reference for future jobs. ‎ Understanding why you want to work will also help you determine where to apply. Do you want to earn extra money for something special, or do you need the job to make ends meet? 38 These are just a few of the questions you need to answer before starting your job search.‎ When you’re searching for a summer job, look for help beyond the wanted signs. 39 And even if a business doesn’t have a sign or advertisement indicating that they are looking for help, stop by and ask a manager. You might fill in an application anyway, which could lead to a position in the future.‎ ‎ 40 Ice cream shops, restaurants, grocery stores and movie theaters commonly hire students. You might take a job that has less desirable hours or that you don’t necessarily enjoy. However, summer jobs don’t last forever. You can still build your skills and experience while making money.‎ A. Here are some tips on finding summer jobs. ‎ B. Take time to think about the types of jobs that are suitable for you.‎ C. Be flexible and creative when you’re looking for a summer job.‎ D. If you are poor in math, you probably would lose your job.‎ E. Let your family, neighbors and teachers know that you’re looking for a job.‎ F.
