I had to ride the bus whenever I came home. Though the bus stopped about two miles from home,Dad never met me,even in severe weather. If I grumbled,he'd say in his loudest fathervoice,"That's what your legs are for!"‎ The walk didn't bother me as much as the fear of walking alone along the highway and country roads. I also felt less than valued that my father didn't seem concerned about my safety. But that feeling was canceled one spring evening.‎ It had been a particularly difficult week at college after long hours in labs. I longed for home. When the bus reached the stop,I stepped off and dragged my suitcase to begin the long journey home.‎ Once I had turned off the highway to start the last lap of my journey,I always had a sense of relief to see the hedges(树篱) because it meant that I was almost home. On that particular evening, the hedges had just come into view when I saw something gray moving along the top of the hedges, moving toward the house. Upon closer observation,I realized it was the top of my father's head. Then I knew, each time I'd come home,he had stood behind the hedges, watching, until he knew I had arrived safely. I swallowed hard against the tears. He did care, after all.‎ On later visits, that spot of gray became my watchtower. Upon reaching home,I would find my father sitting innocently in his chair."So,my son,it's you!" he'd say,his face pretended surprise.‎ I replied,"Yes,Dad,it's me. So he created a photo project hoping to bring more attention to the loss of natural habitat in Cambodia. He records the common name of each creature, its scientific name and identifying qualities, whether or not the species is endangered and hopes to educate Cambodians about the importance of wildlife protection.‎ ‎“The biggest issue is damage to habitat and hunting. Besides that, it is due to demand from the rich who desire wild meat and who consider wild meat chemical-free,” he said.‎ ‎“Hunting is at the root of Cambodian culture,” he told to the VOA. But he notes that centuries ago, there were more animals and fewer people. Educating Cambodians about the need for saving natural resources is very important to Suy Senglim.‎ Chhit Sam Ath is executive director of the World Wildlife Fund, or WWF office in Cambodia. Flora and Fauna International noted almost 60 percent of the country was forested in 2009. But it fell to 48 percent by 2014.‎ Suy Senglim is now working on a book on 100 bird species from among the 400 species he has photographed. He hopes to publish the book in early 2018. Many single people say that France’s capital is one of the most difficult places to meet people. The complaints(抱怨) of this lonely group have inspired a new phenomenon known as “supermarket dating.” At Galerie Lafayette Gourmet, singles can shop for more than just the items on their grocery list. They can look for someone who has blue eyes, brown hair, and is 1.8 meters tall, or whatever may be on their romantic shopping list. At this Paris location, single people of all ages can schedule their shopping for Thursday nights between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. When they walk through the door, they pick up a purple basket to advise that they are looking for love. They try to arrive early because the baskets disappear quickly, and then they have to wait in line for their turn to wander the store aisles(过道) . With purple baskets in hand, shoppers can consider their romantic options while ‎ they pick out their groceries. When they are ready to pay, they can go to the checkout line for singles who want to chat.‎ Most of the people who look for love in the supermarket are skeptical of Internet dating. They know that it is easy to embellish(美化) one’s appearance or to lie about one’s age over the Internet. The supermarket, on the other hand, is considered a safe and casual environment in which to meet a potential match. In addition, what one finds in another’s grocery basket can say a thing or two about that person’s character or intentions. Buying pet food can be a man’s way of showing a potential match that he has a sensitive side. Women who fill their baskets with low-fat food show their healthy style of living. These days it’s possible to find much more than food at a grocery store. 32. What do many single people in Pairs complain about?‎ A. The difficulty in meeting people. B. The idea of supermarket dating. C. The items on their grocery list. D. The inconvenience in shopping.‎ ‎33. Which of the following can be inferred but is not clearly stated in the second paragraph?‎ A. The dating supermarket is located in Paris. B. The dating supermarket is open only on Thursday evenings. C. People looking for love must get a basket of a particular color D. The dating supermarket has very good business.‎ ‎34. How do love shoppers meet one another?‎ A. They schedule their meeting in advance. B. They go through a special checkout. C. They pick out their groceries with great care. ‎ D. They dial the phone numbers on their shopping items.‎ ‎35.Why do the people prefer the supermarket dating to Internet dating?‎ A. The supermarket dating is more convenient. ‎ B. Husbands lie, friends lie, wives lie, and believe it or not, your mother might lie. A recent study showed that 91% of all people lie on a regular basis, and people tell at least 13 major lies a week.‎ ‎ Dr Robert G Newby, a professor of sociology, believes that men are more likely to tell lies than women. “Men are more concerned about how they present themselves in public, the impression they make on people and things like that,” he says.“And they want to make sure that their presentation of self is one that makes them look good. 37    ” Women, on the other hand, Dr Newby believes, are more private people and their relationship tends to be more interpersonal, as opposed to having to put on a public face. Women are more easily hurt and they are not as likely to try to cheat like men. ‎ ‎ Psychotherapist Vesta Callender also agrees that men and women do lie differently. “ 38     They plan better,” Callender notes. “They create a history around the lie, and they try to project into the future what might happen if the lie is detected. With a woman, a lie has a beginning, a middle and an end.” Callender believes that men tend to lie for the moment or to get out of a situation. 39     Dr Elmore stresses that while it is true that most people lie from time to time, one should be truthful. “ 40    Everything that is true does not need to be said, but everything said needs to be true,” he says.‎ ‎ A.Be truthful at any cost.‎ ‎ B.Men also lie to each other.‎ ‎ C.Everyone lies from time to time.‎ ‎ D.Women are much more careful in their lies.‎ ‎ E.Men think less about how the lie can be detected.‎ ‎ F.He lies about almost everything, even when he doesn’t have to.‎ ‎ G.Men are more likely to step outside of their relationships than women.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) ‎ ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。‎ The best example of universally understood body language may be the smile.A smile can open doors and tear down walls among 41 .‎ I have organized and reorganized an 42 with the dentist for months.I also 43 it twice and called the day before to 44 all the paperwork would be ready for the x-rays.‎ Then I arrived. It wasn't 45 at all.The lady there even had no 46 what I was talking about.I 47 felt my blood boil.I was getting so 48 .I didn’t yell at her but I may as well have because the 49 I was talking to her was not nice.I spoke down to her like she was a child and incapable. It was not a good moment. The whole time she smiled and was 50 to me.‎ Only when everything was finally 51 was I nice.I sat down in the waiting area and 52 it all.How can I make it better?
