You know the standard explanations: keeping a moderate diet, engaging in regular exercise, etc. But what effect does your personality have on your longevity (长寿)?Do some kinds of personalities lead to longer lives? A new study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society looked at this question by examining the personality characteristics of 246 children of people who had lived to be at least 100. ‎ ‎ The study shows that those living the longest are more outgoing, more active and less neurotic (神经质的) than other people. Long-living women are also more likely ‎ to be sympathetic (有同情心的) and cooperative than women with a normal life span. These findings are in agreement with what you would expect from the evolutionary theory: those who like to make friends and help others can gather enough resources to make it through tough times. ‎ ‎ Interestingly, however, other characteristics that you might consider advantageous had no impact on whether study participants were likely to live longer. Those who were more self-disciplined, for instance, were no more likely to live to be very old. Also, being open to new ideas had no relationship to long life, which might explain all those bad-tempered old people who are fixed in their ways. ‎ ‎ Whether you can successfully change your personality as an adult is the subject of a longstanding psychological debate. But the new paper suggests that if you want long life, you should fight to be as outgoing as possible. ‎ ‎ Unfortunately, another recent study shows that your mother’s personality may also help determine your longevity. That study looked at nearly 28,000 Norwegian mothers and found that those moms who were more anxious, depressed and angry were more likely to feed their kids unhealthy diets. Patterns of childhood eating can be hard to break when we’re adults, which may mean that kids of depressed moms end up dying younger. ‎ ‎ Personality isn’t destiny (命运) , and everyone knows that individuals can learn to change. But both studies show that long life isn’t just a matter of your physical health but of your mental health. ‎ ‎21. The aim of the study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society is ______. ‎ ‎ A. to see whether people’s personality affects their life span ‎ B. to find out if one’s lifestyle has any effect on their health ‎ C. to investigate the role of exercise in living a long life ‎ D. to examine all the factors contributing to longevity ‎22. What does the author imply about outgoing and sympathetic people?‎ ‎ A. They have a good understanding of evolution. ‎ ‎ B. They are better at negotiating an agreement. ‎ ‎ C. They generally appear more resourceful. ‎ ‎ D. They are more likely to get over hardship. ‎ ‎23. What can we learn from the findings of the two new studies?‎ ‎ A. Anxiety and depression more often than not cut short one’s life span. ‎ ‎ B. Longevity results from a combination of mental and physical health. ‎ ‎ C. Personality plays a decisive role in how healthy one is. ‎ ‎ D. Health is in large part related to one’s lifestyle. ‎ ‎ ‎ B ‎ As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly sophisticated (先进的,尖端的), there are growing concerns that robots could become a threat (威胁). This danger can be avoided, according to computer science professor Stuart Russell, if we figure out how to turn human values into a programmable code.‎ ‎ Russell argues that as robots take on more complicated tasks, it’s necessary to translate our morals (道德) into AI language.‎ ‎ For example, if a robot does chores around the house, you wouldn’t want it to put the pet cat in the oven to make dinner for the hungry children. “You would want that robot preloaded with a good set of values,” said Russell.‎ ‎ Some robots are already programmed with basic human values. For example, mobile robots have been programmed to keep a comfortable distance from humans. Obviously there are cultural differences, but if you were talking to another person and they came up close in your personal space, you wouldn’t think that’s the kind of thing a properly brought-up person would do.‎ ‎ It will be possible to create more sophisticated moral machines, if only we can find a way to set out human values as clear rules.‎ ‎ Robots could also learn values from drawing patterns from large sets of data on human behavior. They are dangerous only if programmers are careless.‎ ‎ The biggest concern with robots going against human values is that human beings fail to do sufficient testing and they’ve produced a system that will break some kind of taboo(禁忌).‎ ‎ One simple check would be to program a robot to check the correct course of action ‎ with a human when faced with an unusual situation.‎ ‎ If the robot is unsure whether an animal is suitable for the microwave, it has the opportunity to stop, send out beeps (嘟嘟声), and ask for directions from a human. If we humans aren’t quite sure about a decision, we go and ask somebody else.‎ ‎ The most difficult step in programming values will be deciding exactly what we believe is moral, and how to create a set of ethical (道德伦理的) rules. But if we come up with an answer, robots could be good for humanity.‎ ‎24. How do robots learn human values?‎ ‎ A. By interacting with humans in everyday life situations.‎ ‎ B. By following the daily routines of civilized human beings.‎ ‎ C. By picking up patterns from massive data on human behavior.‎ ‎ D. By imitating the behavior of properly brought-up human beings.‎ ‎25. What will a well-programmed robot do when facing an unusual situation?‎ ‎ A. Keep a distance from possible dangers.‎ ‎ B. Stop to get advice from a human being.‎ ‎ C. Start its built-in alarm system at once.‎ ‎ D. Do enough testing before taking action.‎ ‎26. What is the most difficult to do when we turn human values into a programmable code?‎ ‎ A. Determine what is moral and ethical. ‎ ‎ B. Design some large-scale experiments.‎ ‎ C. Set rules for man-machine interaction.‎ ‎ D. Develop a more sophisticated program.‎ C ‎ Felicia's father Herminio, in Florida, has to rely on dialysis (透析) to keep him alive as he waits for a kidney donation(捐赠). The poor man is battling stage5 kidney disease, and has to have a transplant (移植).‎ ‎ Felicia noted that she and her father had always been close, even after she moved to Kansas when she was 13 years old. She added that the distance between them had ‎ become especially difficult because of his illness.‎ ‎ The waiting list could take months. Instead of letting her father wait for a long time, Felicia secretly went through the testing process to see if she could be a match for his organ donation. “It's so amazing to me that I can help save a life—and it's my dad's,” Felicia said. The fatherdaughter duo (二人组) are currently going through the final stages of tests to make sure that she can proceed (继续进行) with the organ donation.‎ ‎ While Felicia's donation will most likely save her father's life, the family have to face another problem. Herminio's insurance(保险) will cover the expenses of his surgery but not the additional costs for his medication and recovery. Felicia and her family created the GoFundMe page in hopes of raising $30,000 for the expenses not covered by Herminio's insurance. The page states that Herminio needs at least $8,000 worth of emergency(紧急情况) medications before the surgery. He will also require expensive medications after the surgery(外科手术). Meanwhile, Felicia, who is also a parent and doesn't have a high salary, will need money to travel, pay her bills and find childcare for her son while she recovers.‎ ‎ “I cannot wait to get through the rest of these tests to know for sure that I can do this and I can save him. I will be heartbroken if he's not going to get the transplant,” she said. “I’m going to be the one who's going to do it, and I'm going all the way— in 100 percent, full force.”‎ ‎27. What do you know about Herminio?‎ ‎ A. He lives together with his daughter.‎ ‎ B. He has divorced his wife.‎ ‎ C. He is suffering from kidney problems.‎ ‎ D. He is recovering from a serious disease.‎ ‎28. What did Felicia want to do?‎ ‎ A. To wait for an organ donation.‎ ‎ B. To donate a lifesaving kidney to her father.‎ ‎ C. To support her father financially.‎ ‎ D. To take care of her father in hospital.‎ ‎29. Felicia can be best described as________.‎ ‎ A. strong and brave B. selfless and determined ‎ C. rich and generous D. hardworking and creative ‎30. Which of the following might be the best title for the text?‎ ‎ A. A Poor Family B. An Expensive Surgery ‎ C. A Deadly Disease D. A Priceless Gift 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(注意:请将该题答案写在答题卡上。写在本试卷上无效。)‎ Secrets of Top Students ‎ A professor of education who has made some studies of top students said that top grades do not always go to the brightest students. 31 ‎ ‎ Top students master a few basic rules that others can also learn. Top students study anywhere or everywhere. A top student who is also a top athlete recites biology terms as he works out every day. Another student learns a new word every morning while brushing his teeth. Top students are also well organized. Top students immediately put the day’s notes in different folders (文件夹). 32 According to one professor, the student who turns in neat work is already on the way to scoring an A. In the classroom, it is equally important for students to speak up and ask questions. 33 As a student puts it, “Better grades come from better understanding.” Another technique is to do more than the homework. A student says that if her teacher gives five problems, she will undertake ten. In the student’s words, “Part of learning is practising. The more you practise, the more you learn.” ‎ ‎ 34 It showed that students who discussed homework and problems together, tried different approaches and explained their solutions to one another scored higher than those on their own.‎ ‎ Last but not least, all experts and top students agree that the most important “secret” lies in the contribution by parents. They set high standards for their ‎ children and hold them to those standards. 35 They impress the lessons of responsibility on their children, and the children deliver.‎ ‎ A. In other words, study time is always placed above fun.‎ ‎ B. The value of studying together was shown in an experiment. ‎ ‎ C. They are taught the importance of learning by their parents. ‎ ‎ D. This is perhaps the best way for a student to clarify any doubts.‎ ‎ E. In this way, they are available for review when nearing examination time.‎ ‎ F. According to him, top students know how to make the most of their abilities.‎ ‎ G. They encourage their children in their studies but do not do the work for them.‎ 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20个小题;每小题1分,满分20分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C 和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 ‎ ‎ Mama was calling to me.
