I kept comforting her.”‎ The ambulance rushed her to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. The driver of the truck remained at the scene, policemen said. It was found by farmer James Bristle and his neighbor Trent Satterthwaite, who were reportedly digging in the field. At first, they couldn’t figure out what they were seeing.‎ ‎“It was probably a rib bone that came up,” Bristle tells Ann Arbor News. “We thought it was a bent fence post.” Upon closer inspection, however, it became clear even to untrained eyes this was no fence post. “We knew it was something special.” Then they sped up the dig.‎ After finding the bones Monday night, Bristle called the University of Michigan Tuesday morning to report his find. Scientist Daniel Fisher arrived to inspect it Wednesday, and by Thursday morning he had confirmed it’s a woolly mammoth. He concludes the animal was about 40 years old when it died. It was hunted by humans, he says, who killed it arid stored the remains in a pond as a way of preserving the meat for future use. It’s still too early to tell exactly how it died, Fisher tells Detroit’s WWJ-TV, “but the skeleton showed signs of human’s butchering.”‎ The bones are being temporarily stored nearby, according to the Free Press, and it remains unclear where they’ll eventually end up. Their research value will be determined once they’ve been cleaned and dried.‎ Woolly mammoths once lived in Eurasia and North America, and most disappeared by 10,000 years ago—a demise (终止) that has been linked not only to humans, but also to changing climate. It’s now believed that warming weather weakened their populations before humans dealt the final blows.‎ ‎28. How did James Bristle and his neighbor find what they found at first?‎ A. It’s delicate. B. It’s old.‎ C. It’s unique. D. It’s worthless.‎ ‎29. What can we know about the mammoth according to the text?‎ A. It might die in its 40s.‎ B. It was native to Eurasia.‎ C. It preferred walking in the fields.‎ D. It mainly died from climate change.‎ ‎30. Which is Daniel Fisher’s opinion?‎ A. The bones are well worth studying.‎ B. The mammoth was killed by a butcher.‎ C. The newfound site has evidence of human activity.‎ D. It’s unclear whether the bones were a mammoth’s.‎ ‎31. What does the underlined part in the last paragraph mean?‎ A. Dried their bones. B. Took their lives.‎ C. Destroyed their home. D. Preserved their meat.‎ D In recent years, car manufacturers (制造商) have been put under pressure to invent a vehicle that is both cheaper to run and better for the environment.‎ One of the first ideas that car manufacturers tried was to replace engines which run on fossil (石化) fuels with electric motors. Unfortunately, these vehicles had several disadvantages and they didn’t sell very well. The problems were that the batteries of these electric cars ran out very quickly and took a long time to recharge.‎ However, car manufacturers have improved the concept. This is where the hybrid car, which has both an electric motor and a traditional petrol engine, comes in. The electric motor never needs to be recharged and it is much better for the planet than a traditional car.‎ In a hybrid car, the engine is controlled by a computer which determines whether the car runs on petrol, electricity, or both. When the car needs maximum power, for example, if it is accelerating or climbing a steep hill, it uses all of its resources (资源), but at steady speeds it runs only on petrol. When slowing down or breaking, the electric motor recharges its batteries.‎ Hybrid cars are better for the environment because they have a much smaller engine than a traditional car. Also, hybrid cars on the market are made using materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber, which makes them extremely light. Both of them mean that they use less petrol than normal cars, so they produce less pollution.‎ Of course, hybrid cars aren’t perfect; they still run on fossil fuel and so pollute the environment to a certain degree. However, they may be the first step along the road to cleaner, ‘greener’ cars. Car manufacturers are already working on vehicles which run on hydrogen giving off harmless water vapor. It looks like we might be heading in the right direction.‎ ‎32. What can we know about the vehicles which ran on electric motors?‎ A. They moved very fast.‎ B. They were unpopular.‎ C. Their engines were often replaced.‎ D. Their engines were expensive.‎ ‎33. How does the computer in a hybrid car function?‎ A. It keeps the car running steadily.‎ B. It directs the car to climb hills.‎ C. It decides where to power the car.‎ D. It controls how the car uses power.‎ ‎34. What does the underlined part refer to in Paragraph 5?‎ A. Car’s smaller engine and special materials.‎ B. Electric motor and petrol engine.‎ C. Hybrid car and hydrogen car.‎ D. Aluminum and carbon fiber.‎ ‎35. What’s the best title for the text?‎ A. Cars’ engines B. Car pollution C. Green cars D.
