Your only goal in advertising is to show enough gold to get people to want to be a prospect. Forget about selling them anything.‎ Then how do you show them the gold? Keys to effective advertising are as follows.‎ Talk to one person, and call his / her name.‎ On a crowded Manhattan street, elbow-to-elbow with a sea of people, I still heard someone speak in a conversational voice — “Mark.” I turned my head around. Of course he was talking to someone else, but it still caught my attention.‎ You need to speak to one person, and call his / her name. In marketing, the next best thing to a personal name is your Who and What. For example, “Golfers” = who “have knee pain affecting their swing?” = what.‎ Educate them in a helpful way.‎ If you have room, take the time to explain one point that will help them with the problem they are facing. For smaller ads you can just point them towards a web page where you want to educate them about something helpful.‎ For instance, “Most pain is actually caused by stress. Stopping the stress means decreasing or stopping the pain. Right now, just notice your knee pain. See if you can notice where your legs and hips feel tense, and breathe into the tension. As it relaxes, see how the pain feels.” If you have more space, you can go into more details.‎ Offer a trade: their contact information for something valuable.‎ ‎“Of course, your knee pain isn’t gone completely. This is just a clue. If you’d like a free article with illustrations on how to decrease knee pain and help your swing, just leave your contact ‎ information and you will be given an additional golf swing tip every week.” You can just follow this example.‎ Finally, don’t ignore design.‎ Keep it simple. In a loud, overcrowded world, simplicity and straightforwardness have the best chance of being noticed. Use plenty of white space, easy-to-read front (字体), and avoid complicated patterns.‎ Besides, you can try Robin Williams (not THAT Robin Williams) book, The Non-Designer’s Design Book, Maybe you can learn something from it.‎ Have fun with your advertising!‎ ‎56. Which of the following is a tip for advertising successfully?‎ A. Educate your potential customers about something helpful.‎ B. Keep in mind that advertising is first journey marketing.‎ C. Pay attention to design and keep it complicated if possible.‎ D. Call one’s name whenever meeting with someone.‎ ‎57. How do you understand the underlined sentence in the passage?‎ A. The golfer’s knee was hurt and he can’t play golf any more.‎ B. The golfer’s knee pain was caused by stress and we should help him stop the stress.‎ C. The golfer can’t swing because of the knee pain and he needs treatment.‎ D. The golfer can’t play golf any more and we’ll speak to him and offer him some tips.‎ B Atticus was weak: he was nearly fifty. When Jem and I asked him why he was so old, he said he got started late, which we felt reflected upon his abilities and manliness. He was much older than the parents of our school contemporaries, and there was nothing Jem or I could say about him when our classmates said, “My father—”‎ Jem was football crazy. Atticus was never too tired to play keep-away, but when Jem wanted to tackle him, Atticus would say, “I’m too old for that, son.”‎ Our father didn’t do anything. He worked in an office, not in a drugstore. Atticus did not drive a dump-truck for the county, he was not the police officer, he did not farm, work in a garage, or do anything that could possibly arouse the admiration of anyone.‎ Besides that, he wore glasses. He was nearly blind in his left eye, and said left eyes were the tribal(家族的)curse of the Finches. Whenever he wanted to see something well, he turned his head and looked from his right eye.‎ He did not do the things our schoolmates’ fathers did: he never went hunting; he did not play poker or fish or drink or smoke. He sat in the living room and read.‎ With these characteristics, however, he would not remain as inconspicuous(不显眼)as we wished him to: that year, the whole school talked about him defending Tom Robinson, none of which was complimentary. After my fight with Cecil Jacobs when I committed myself to a policy of chicken, word got around that Scout Finch wouldn’t fight any more, her daddy wouldn’t let her. This was not entirely correct: I wouldn’t fight publicly for Atticus, but the family was private ground. I would fight anyone from a third cousin upwards tooth and nail. Francis Hancock, for example, knew that.‎ When he gave us our air-guns Atticus wouldn’t teach us to shoot. Uncle Jack instructed us therefore; he said Atticus wasn’t interested in guns. Atticus said to Jem one day, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit them, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”‎ That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss ‎ Maudie about it.‎ ‎“Your father’s right,” she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”‎ ‎58. Who is telling the story?‎ ‎ A. Tom Robinson. B. Francis Hancock.‎ ‎ C. Scout Finch. D. Miss Maudie.‎ ‎59. What did the children think of their father Atticus in the beginning?‎ ‎ A. He was still energetic though he was nearly 50.‎ ‎ B. He was willing to fight for his family.‎ ‎ C. He was interested in nothing in his spare time.‎ ‎ D. He was not manly or skilled.‎ ‎60. What does the underlined word “complimentary” in the 6th paragraph probably mean?‎ A. Good remarks. B. Reasonable argument.‎ C. Wrong judgment. D. Strong criticism.‎ ‎61. Mockingbirds can be compared to people who are _______.‎ A. able but modest B. intelligent and entertaining ‎ C. harmless and helpful D. disabled but devoted C As the nights get longer, those who suffer from the winter blues (冬季忧郁症) will be planning ways to escape to the sunshine. But there may be a much simpler way of cheering yourself up—simply by shining a bright light into your ear canal.‎ Up to one in four Britons suffers from seasonal affective disorder (SAD), with seven percent of the population having full-blown SAD. It is caused by the brain not receiving enough daylight which is needed to produce serotonin, a hormone (荷尔蒙) that controls moods. Symptoms range from being mildly sleepy to depression and insomnia (失眠症), but a cure might be in sight.‎ Two clinical experiments, run by Valkee who makes a device that can shine light into your ear and the University of Oulu in Finland, have found that carefully targeted light can help prevent the condition.‎ Juuso Nissila, Valkee’s co-founder and chief scientists said, “We presented earlier that the human brain is sensitive to light. These two clinical experiments show that channeling bright light via the ear canal into the brain’s photosensitive areas effectively prevents and treats seasonal affective disorder.”‎ The University of Oulu reported that in their first study, 92 percent of the patients with seasonal affective disorder achieved full remission (缓解) after a month of daily 8 to 12 minutes’ doses (剂量) of light from Valkee.‎ Timo Takala, chief physician at the Oulu Deaconess Institute said, “These clinical experiments show that bright light channeled into the brain via the ear canal is an important future method of treating seasonal affective disorder.”‎ Valkee launched its bright light headset in August 2010. It is classed as a medical device under EU regulations.‎ The device channels bright light direct to the brain via the ear canal to prevent and cure depression, mood swings and even circadian rhythm (昼夜节律) disorders such as jet lag (时差感).‎ It costs£185 and looks like an iPod—only the earphones send out light rather than sound.‎ Anyone wanting to copy the effects with a flashlight is likely to be disappointed, it emits the wrong kind of light that is apparently too yellow.‎ ‎62. What can be inferred from the first two paragraphs?‎ A. Light as well as sound is essential for curing SAD.‎ B. The number of Britons having SAD continues growing.‎ C. There’s a long way to go for curing SAD thoroughly.‎ D. Receiving enough daylight makes for a good mood.‎ ‎63. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?‎ A. Shining a bright light into your ear canal is the only way to treat SAD.‎ B. You might not suffer from jet lag if you wear a bright light headset.‎ C. The device can help one to recover from all physical problems. ‎ D. A flashlight can work exactly as the bright light headset.‎ ‎64. What can be the best title of the passage?‎ A. The harmful effects caused by SAD.‎ B. Shine a light in your ear—brighten your mood in winter.‎ C. The most efficient way to prevent and cure SAD.‎ D. Keep the sunshine in your heart—enjoy a colorful life.‎ D If you read The Fault in Our Stars only to find a young adult romance of Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters, then you definitely underestimate the power of sophisticated symbolism, emotions, and literature John Green offers. I remember someone saying “You don’t read a great book; it reads you.” The Fault in Our Stars is one of those books. It gives you the concept of what cancers are like, of how children in particular fight them, reveals and reminds you of your first love in life, always the youngest and the most innocent. I will resist my urge to tell you the plot and spoil the whole story, but I promise you every single page here is worth a great deal of excitement, humor and a bunch of other stuff listed down here which I think are interesting.‎ The book gives lives to where we find deaths. The joy of living comes in when terminal cancer is nothing more than just, “a side effect of dying”, when you can laugh in the misfortunes of disease and say “I’m on a rollercoaster that only goes up, my friend.” The Fault in Our Stars, however, stars with Hazel’s “depression” like many of us starts a new day. Thus, Hazel’s mother wants her cancer-stricken daughter to have a life, putting her in the Support Group. Later on, Issac and Augustus give her hope and something to believe in. The friendship tied by the shared intellectual curiosity and dreams. The story is so carefully plotted that even though Hazel doesn’t go to school like other kids, her life is so in touch with ours. Everyone in a while will feel as if everything goes wrong, that it sucks at being what it’s supposed to be. Bad grades, getting dumped, or even having a terminal disease. “The pain demands to be felt.” But after all, how long should it take us to give sufferings a break is subject to be viewed personally, since it would determine whether or not we become a type of Peter Van Houten, Hazel’s favorite writer in the novel.‎ John Green also cares about your dreams and ambitions. As you read through chapters, especially toward the end, you will find out Hazel and Augustus have widely different ideas of what they think is a “good life.” Here I find a reflection of my soul in Augustus’s, with all his desire to leave a mark on the world. Such a guy he is seeking for glories and meanings of life, fearing most oblivion. Others may find themselves, in contrast, caring not about recognition. They are like Hazel Grace, seeing heroism as an act of noticing and loving and sharing. Both ideas are beautiful and proofed to be fearless to be together despite any mental or physical challenges lying on their way to the pursuit of happiness.‎ ‎ ① “Apparently, the world is not a wish-granting factory.” The book embraces the restless, innocent desires of young minds. ② Would you care for a trip to Amsterdam when ‎ you’re at the 4th stage of cancer to find out what happens after the end of your favorite book? Would you dare to love the dying, to be okay to love when you’re dying, or to forgive yourself for hurting those who love you in case you die? ③ In the book, you will find John Green mentions about how “some infinities are greater than other infinities,” which means, I think, infinities can be defined, expanded and shrunk. ④ Infinities are created by taking chances, and if we fail while doing so, then the fault is simply in out stars, not ourselves.‎ Funny, romantic, unputdownable and profound, The Fault in Our Stars is definitely one of the best young adult fiction books in the century. It may touch the readers in many different ways. In here some will find humor, some will find encouragement, and some will find a book as a bond for a new love story. But if you insist that you only want to read a good love story in The Fault of in Our Stars, that’s fine too. It’s an excellent book that reminds us of those who are important.‎ ‎65. The underlined part in Paragraph 1 implies ‎ A. readers’ views tend to vary on the same book B. readers choose books based on their tastes C. books can reflect readers’ life ‎ D. books are created to cater to different needs ‎66. According to John Green, what is the basis for the friendship between Hazel and Augustus?‎ A. Being curious and enterprising in life.‎ B. Suffering from the common disease.‎ C. Dreaming of the same good life.‎ D. Being attracted to each other for uniqueness.‎ ‎67. The author believes that he is somewhat like ‎ A. Hazel B. Issac C. Peter Van Houten D. Augustus ‎ ‎68. Where does the sentence “We can all learn a lot from how Hazel and Augustus take chances and make the best out of them.” belong?‎ A.① B.② C.③ D.④‎ ‎69. What is to blame if we fail to create infinities?‎ A. Our ability. B. Our desire C. Our luck. D. Our identity.‎ ‎70. Who is the book The Fault in Our Stars mainly intended for?‎ A. Patients with terminal diseases.‎ B. Teenagers with some life experience.‎ C. Adults recalling their golden days.‎ D. Kids wishing for a bright future.‎ 第四部分:任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题l分,满分l0分)‎ 请认真阅读下列短文,根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。‎ 注意:请将答案写在答题卡上相应题号的横线上。每个空格只填1个单词。 ‎ There are many things that we wish to achieve in life. For some, we set goals and objectives, and for some we don’t. Try to remember the last time you set a goal to achieve a certain task. Were you able to complete the task in an effective manner? The tasks which are done by setting and meeting daily goals will definitely be useful and rewarding experiences. A step-by-step approach towards achieving smaller goals is the key to achieving larger ones.‎ When it comes to the workplace, each and every employee is expected to meet daily responsibilities and expectations. With organizations becoming more and more competitive, the importance of goal-setting for employees is increasing. It helps the employee to perform better and increases his or her efficiency and time management. It’s also important for every student to set high ‎ academic goals so as to be able to build a good career.‎ Setting goals for completing the daily schedule helps an employee to finish the assigned tasks and targets in a timely manner. If an employee is performing the way he or she is expected to, then this will automatically increase the performance, output and productivity of both the employee and the organization. Daily study targets are the same. This helps you complete your assignments within the set time, thus putting less pressure on you during exams and increasing your chances of performing well.‎ How many times you have to be at work on a weekend just to complete your work? How many times you have had to stay up all night to complete your homework or study for your exams? Had you followed your set goals and targets right from the beginning, you would have spent the time relaxing rather than being busy working or studying! Setting up goals and objectives helps you organize your time and efforts in an efficient manner.‎ In performing your work diligently, you are likely to keep a steady pace when it comes to fulfilling your set targets. Because you are already on track, there will be no unnecessary workload and time limits over your head. Therefore, another benefit of effective goal-setting is lack of stress and a more calm and relaxed mind. Only a stress-free and calm mind can house progressive and productive thoughts. A calm mind causes positivity, which goes a long way towards increasing your ability to achieve the personal goals you have set for yourself.‎ Each and every human being aims to achieve two things: to fulfill desires and to enjoy life. This is possible only through proper discipline and time management. Goal-setting leads to not only professional growth but also personal growth and development. You are expected to know that every step counts and that setting up goals is easy, but following them on a consistent basis is difficult. Therefore, if you want to be successful and also harvest the fruits of your hard work, you need to stick to your set goals and be focused towards achieving them. Realize the significant role that goal-setting plays in your life, make sure that you do all you can to achieve what you want, set your goals, work towards achieving them and celebrate your success!‎ Passage outline Supporting details Significance of goal-setting in achieving success In face of competition, employees with goals can perform better as well as 71. ▲ efficiency and time management.‎ Students who want to build a good career should attach 72. ▲ to setting high academic goals.‎ Increase output and performance By setting goals, an employees can increase output and performance instead of 73. ▲ completing his or her tasks.‎ Students can have less pressure and perform well with the aid of daily study targets.‎ Help in time management You can have your time and efforts 74. ▲ better if you follow your setting –goals from the beginning.‎ You’re likely to have more time for relaxation instead of 75. ▲ yourself in working or studying.‎ Reduce 76. ▲ levels Chances are that you can fulfill your set targets steadily owing to 77. ▲ of unnecessary workload and time limits over your head.‎ Effective goal-setting is 78. ▲ to the development of a relaxed mind, which can result in positivity.‎ Every step counts You should be 79. ▲ that it’s difficult to follow your goals consistently.‎ Your hard work will 80. ▲ off if you stick to your set goals step by step.‎ 第五部分:根据首字母或中文提示完成下列句子(每空0.5分,共5分)‎ ‎81.For some _____________(无法解释的) reason, he wants to move to France.‎ ‎82.No strong evidence has been found to prove the ____________(存在) of Yetis until now.‎ ‎83.Something _____________(不同寻常的) happened in that hospital. What puzzles them is that it is difficult to adapt themselves to English study in senior high. Besides, they don’t know how to get high grades in English.‎ Therefore, I think it is developing good English study habits that counts. For one thing, good study habits can arouse students’ interest in English study and enable them to be confident in English study. For another thing, if students form good study habits, this will relieve their study pressure, improve their study efficiency and helps them to get a satisfactory result in the exam.‎ As far as I’m concerned, something should be done to develop good habits. Firstly, students are supposed to concentrate on what the teachers say and take notes in class. In addition, students had better go over what they have learned and get up early to read English aloud. Secondly, if we have made a plan, we must stick to it and then we may find it not as difficult as it appears. Last but not least, we can find a good partner to study together with us, because it is a good way to keep us motivated.‎
