Interesting Customs in the United Kingdom

Many buildings don't have a 13th floor and planes usually don't have a 13th row of seats and in races,no one wants to wear the number 13. This is because it says in the Bible that Judas was the 13th guest at the Last Supper. Jesus is supposed to have been killed on a Friday. If "Friday" and "13" come together, it become even more unlucky. In the United Kingdom, it is also unlucky to walk under ladders, open umbrellas indoors and to cross the path of a black cat. Lucky things include four-leafed clovers, horseshoes and even rabbit feet! There is a rhyme to help you remember the last lucky thing: a "penny":"Find a penny, pick it up; All the day you'll have good luck!"

Now there is a Queen in the UK. So when you attend important public occasions, you will commonly hear the solemn song God Save the Queen. When the national anthem is played, still most English people stand up. If you are at an important banquet, when you drink wine or spirit, the first toast is always to the Queen. The leading officer will stand up and say, “Ladies and Gentlemen, the Queen.” Then all the persons present will drink, saying “the Queen.” There are a lot of customs like this to show respect to the Queen.
